• Chapter three

Cielo……. She has the same last name as me…… I wonder if she’s my sister. Our names are kind of funny. My middle name Sol means sun and cielo means sky. How weird…… I realized I was too numb to give any big reaction.

I also realized that Luna means moon. Hmmm is there some meaning in our names? While I was deep in thought, I jumped up startled when the doorbell rung. Suddenly my dad said “I got to go back to work Kevin. Think about what I told you.”

He then got his stuff and left through the back door.
When dad left I saw Ken by the front door with a peculiar look on his face. “Guess what?” he asked when I let him inside. I looked at him questioningly. “A new girl just moved in across your house!” he said pointing at the house. “Oh.” I replied. “Did you talk to her?” I asked.

“Kind of.” He said. “I introduced myself, asked her name, and where she moved from.” “Oh.” I said again not really caring. What my dad just said still left me numb. “Hey Kevin!” Ken yelled.

“What.” I yelled back. “Can I tell you what she said so you’ll at least know her name?” he asked. Feeling guilty for ignoring him I replied “Sure.” “Her first name is Leah and she moved here from Chicago……….” I didn’t hear what he said next because I was frozen with shock when I heard her name.

It can’t be the same Leah right? But how big of a coincidence can it be. Her name is Leah and she moved here from Chicago before my 13th birthday. Did her parents tell her about a letter too explaining that she has to find me? Is that why she moved her???

“YO KEVIN!!!!!” Ken shouted. “YOU AL’RIGHT???” “Yea I’m fine.” I replied. “My brain’s just malfunctioning again.” I said trying to joke about it. It didn’t fool him. “You sure?” he asked. “Yup.” I said quickly before he can ask what made me freeze like that. “What were you going to say before I blanked out like that?” I asked him.

“That she was looking for a Kevin Sander.”(Crap, that’s my last name) he replied. I could tell from his voice that he was really confused by that. I wasn’t. What he just said confirmed my questions. “I don’t think she meant to tell me that because as soon as she said it she glared at me and said never mind and went inside” he continued.

“What do you think it means?” he asked me. “It means I got to pay Leah a visit alone.” I said harshly, more harshly than I intended. Ken flinched from the sound of my voice and instantly I felt guilty. “I mean I think she’ll tell me how she knew my name if we were alone.” I said in a softer tone.

“Oh ok.” Ken said. “My dad doesn’t mind you staying here or taking anything from the fridge, so help yourself.” I said as I was grabbing my coat. “Or you can go back home if you don’t want to stay.” I said feeling guiltier leaving him like this. “I’ll head home.” Ken said. I was already out the door by the time he said bye.

I tried not to run to her house as I got nearer. It only took a minute to get to her front door but it felt like hours. I rang the door bell and waited. A girl my age who looked a lot like me answered the door. She had the same color hair as me, was about my height maybe a little shorter, she had the same color eyes, and had the same innocent look on her face as me. She stared at me in shock and asked “Are…..you….. Kevin?!?!” she asked taking a deep breath each time she said a word.

I nodded grimly. “You must be Leah.” I said. She nodded her head. “Do you know why I’m here?” I asked. “Sort of.” She answered. “You’re here to find out the truth of our birth home/life right?” she asked. “Yea.” I answered.

“I think we’re twins.” She said suddenly. “Why do you think that?” I asked. “Because your birthday’s probably tomorrow.” She said. “How’d you guess that?” I asked feeling confused. “Well since my mom said she was suppose to tell me about my birth home before I turned 13, and since you’re here you must know the truth.

You’re 13th birthday couldn’t have passed because otherwise you would be with me at Chicago. I doubt your parents would tell you unless it was right before your birthday too.” She answered. I stared at her in shock and realized in grades we would be in a different level.

“Wow, and you figured that out in just minutes?” I asked. “My mom always said that my brain was five years ahead of 7th grade.” She said blushing and laughing. “What do you think of the letters?”I asked suddenly changing the subject.

Her face turned grim. “I don’t know, the bottom was burned off.” She said. “My dad said the letter was burnt for me too.” I said sadly. “But I got to look at the letter and it wasn’t burnt off completely.” She said grimly. If the letter wasn’t burned off completely what’s with the look on her face? I thought to myself. “The language at the bottom weren’t in English but I could read it.”

She continued. “ It looked like it was added on by someone else because the handwriting was different.”
“Also I think the person who wrote the last part never actually saw the letter.” “I don’t know why but I have this feeling that the reason why the bottom half was burnt was because of the foreign language that was added on.” She finished.

“What did it say?” I asked half hoping she wouldn’t answer. Before she answered I saw that Leah was on the verge of tears, she answered in a shaky voice as if she just found out and said “The two children will perish when I find them signed 666.”
