    A Mile In Your Shoes
Usually, my life is a recurring pattern, but then there's the part in my life before I died. That part was something you don't usually forget. It just so happened my story ended up like this. I trudged down the hall just like every other day. And also just like every other day, no one bothered staring at me anymore because they were used to my goth gear. Every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday I stayed after school for a book club. My footsteps thudded down the nearly empty hall as almost all the students and teachers left the school to get out of the doom and gloom Monday atmosphere. How could I blame them? At least I get to she Jake, I thought. Jake is my all time crush. Oh, by the way my name is Hazel. I turned into room 213 and spotted Jake sitting in his usual seat. Once I put my stuff down and tried to get comfy in my desk I spotted Jake in his usual seat. Jake has light brown hair, he's really tall, and he isn't exactly skinny but he's not fat either. Jake looked up at me (OMG!!!!!) and smiled a dazzling smile that kicked my heart into overdrive. Not knowing what to do, I just smiled, looked down, and blushed. "Saved you a seat," Jake said in a voice that sounded like melting honey. Quickly, I picked up my books and scurried over to the empty seat next to Jake and said, "Thanks." We couldn't say much more after that because just then my two Gothic best friends Luna and Katana said, "All right everyone pick up your books." There was a quiet rustling as everyone got out the latest book out book club was reading called, Body Switch. Body switching was always something that fascinated me, and it was my turn to pick out the book we were going to read. It was actually pretty good. "O.K., did everyone read Chapters 3-7?" Luna asked. Everyone nodded their heads. "I thought it was a wasted effort when Trent started panicking after he found out he was in Harry's body. I mean they're best friends." Jake said. "I agree," Mercury said. There are eight people in the book club: Me, Jake, Katana, Luna, Mercury, Alex, Frenchie, and Eric. "Also, I predict one of them is going to do something stupid," Mercury added shaking his dirty blond hair. "Probably," Katana said. "Their guys, too. So chances are it would be something stupid physically. Which means that their going to do something to harm each others bodies." Then this huge discussion erupted that lasted all the way until 5:00 p.m. I never could understand what they were saying, though. I was to distracted by Jake's hotness. Then, the bell rang that signaled, "get out of here or get locked in for the night". After rushing out of the school I talked to Katana and Luna while Jake waited for his ride. "Jake is so into you!" Luna said. "Totally," Katana added. "So are you going to ask him out?" they both asked at the same time. "Maybe," I said, "I don't know. I think he just likes me as a friend," I added. "We could ask him our for you," Luna said. Katana nodded in agreement. "I don't know. I'll get back to you." What will I ever tell them? What will I ever tell Jake? If he found out I was insanely in love with him he would avoid me for sure. I know for a fact he just likes me as a friend. What do I do, what do I do? We continued talking for another fifteen minutes, but Jake's ride never showed. Out of boredom by nothing to talk about with Luna and Katana I walked over to Jake and said, "I don't think your ride's ever going to come. You can walk over to my house with me, Katana, and Luna, we're walking home together. They're spending the night tonight." I said fluttering my eyelashes. "Thanks, but no thanks," Jake said. "I'm grounded. But you can come over to my place if you want." Jake added. "If my ride ever gets here." We both laughed at that. "Sure," I said. Jake looked like he wanted to say more but then Luna and Katana ran up and pulled me by my arm away. "Ouch!" I yelled. "OHMIGOSH! OHMIGOSH! OHMIGOSH!!!!" Luna squealed. "Happy dance!" I shouted. We all held hand and jumped up and down. Then when we stopped, Luna asked "Well what are we supposed to do while you're in flirt heaven with Jake?" Katana nodded. Luna always acted as the spokesperson for Katana. I always preferred Katana over Hazel. Katana listened, Luna was a loudmouth. "I guess you can torture Randy. Little brothers are always a pain," I said absentmindedly. Right as I said that a pale white minivan pulled into the school parking lot. I could hear the rancid music (if you could call it music) of the Jonas Brothers pouring out the open window. "You actually listen to this?" I asked in repulsiveness. "Yes, I do listen to this but I don't like it. In fact, I hate it. My little sister, Ginger, loves it, though. I can't stand them. Their music makes me want to gag." Jake said getting into the car. Jake's mom turned the music down and turned from the front seat to look at me, scrutinizing my Gothic ensemble.Once she was done inspecting me from my black and blue hair to my faded black Converse High Tops, she asked, "Jake, who's this?" "This is Hazel, Mom. She's my friend from the book club. Is it okay if she stays at our house for a little while?" "All right fine," Jake's mom said. Once safely inside the car Hazel sat in the back seat of the minivan with Jake. Just then, Ginger-I think- turned around from the front seat, took one look at me, and yelled at the top of her lungs, "Jake's got a girlfriend! Jake's got a girlfrien-" "ENOUGH! QUIT IT GINGER!" Jake cut her off, screaming at the top of his lungs. Instead of replying, she just turned around-her face in a pout- and cranked the music up so loud I felt like I wanted to tear my ears off.
