It was a warm spring day in Avery, Georgia. Students had returned to school after Spring Break was over, parents went back to work, little children needed babysitters. No one knew that a change was coming to the little town. No one could have guessed that in less than a week, a famous star was coming back to his hometown looking for a new band member. No one expected the frenzy it would create. Except for the teenage girls in town that were in love with this man. Those that worshiped his every move and new all about him. They were prepared to fight over this spot and maybe even his heart....

The sun dawned bright and early that morning. The sky was clear of all traces of yesterday's stormy weather. Avery was fairly buzzing with the news that Emmett Swan was finally coming back to his hometown. He had officially announced a few days before that he was headed back to his roots to search for a new band member. That had set everything off. Every teenage girl was dying to get that spot. All but one.
Megan woke up to the sun shining brightly in her eyes and her cell phone ringing. As she got out of the bed, she grabbed the phone from the side table beside her bed. Quickly, she glanced at the number. It was Alexa. "Hello?" She said sleepily. "Megan, what are you doing still in bed?! Don't you know that Emmett is coming into town today? You have to get your butt down here now! The whole town's population of teenagers are here. Hurry up!" Alexa screamed at her. Megan held the phone away from her ear until the screaming stopped.
"Alexa, I don't care. How many times do I have to tell you this? I could care less about Emmett Swan." She said with disgust. Secretly, she did care. She cared alot. No one knew her secret. No one knew that she had already met Emmett. That she had no reason to worry about that spot. It was hers already if she wanted it. She'd made her impression the last summer. Her dad had some connections. She had flown to Illinios to spend a month with Emmett as part of a music program he was leading up. He knew her potential already.
"Fine. Don't come down here then. It'll be your own fault you don't get that spot. We all know how great a singer you are. But whatever. Call me later and let me know if you change your mind. 'k?" "Alright, Alexa. I'll call you later if I change my mind. But I'm not going to change my mind. Sorry. Now let me sleep. I have plans for tonight." Megan hung up the phone and crawled back into bed. The clock read only 7:30. "Good. I can atleast get another two hours before he arrives. Then I'll go see him. I kinda miss him." She thought as she drifted off to sleep. Her preparations for the day would come in handy.

"Come on. Answer your phone, Emmett." Megan muttered as she listened to the ringing on her end of the line. She was calling Emmett to see if he wanted to go out to dinner later. She was just about to hang up when someone answer. "Hello?" An unfamiliar voice asked. "Umm... hi. Is Emmett Swan around?" Megan asked, becoming slightly nervous. "He is. Who may I tell him is calling? He's a little busy at the moment and may not wish to take a call." The mystery man asked. "Tell him it's Megan Maddox, please. I'm an old friend." "Just a moment, Miss." Megan heard the phone be placed onto a surface of some sort and voices murmering. "Megan? I didn't expect to hear from you anytime soon. Last time I saw you, you were trying to get away from me because I tried to ask you on a date." Emmett said with a chuckle.
"Oh, Emmett. I wasn't running away. I was just shocked that you would even ask me. But I'm past all that now. I heard you were looking for a new band member. You do remember what you told me last summer, right? That it was mine if I wanted it?" Megan asked, trying to sound as sweet as possible. "Of course I remember. I never expected you to act upon that. You do know that I'm in your town, correct?" Emmett asked. "Of course I know that. How about we discuss this over dinner? I'm free tonight. What about you?" She asked. "I'm free as well. Sounds like a date. I'll pick you up at 7:00. Don't worry. I have your address. Gotta love when your dad plans these sort of things, huh? See you soon." And with that, Emmett was gone.
Megan quickly ran to take a shower. She had only two hours to get ready. Her dad had taken her shopping the weekend before. At the mall, she'd picked out a light blue dress with white polka dots on the skirt. She thought it went well with her tan skin. She wished her hair was longer, but there was nothing to do about that. As she got dressed, she tried to decipher Emmett's meaing behind saying his dad planned these sort of things. Or was he talking about her dad? Everything was just so confusing...

Emmett picked Megan up right at 7:00. She was in her room when he pulled up. She had heard him, but was still putting in her earrings. She didn't expect the knock on her door. She slipped the back onto her earring and opened the door. There stood Emmett. "Emmett, what are you doing up here? Shouldn't you wait downstairs for me?" She giggled. "Nope. I was in a hurry to see you. Are you ready to go?" He asked, smiling down at Megan. He was a good five inches taller than her. "Yep. All ready." They walked out to the waiting car. Megan was surprised to find that it wasn't some flashy sports car.
Both Emmett and Megan were quiet on the ride to La Moi, a local restuarant that served some of the best food. Once seated at their own private booth on the second floor, Emmett decided to ask Megan something he'd been waiting to ask her for a while. "So, do you really want that spot. Because all you have to do is say the words and it's all yours. I don't want somebody else to be in my band really. I think it's great as it is. But since I have to have someone, there's no one I'd rather have than you. You've got amazing talent. And you're pretty cool to hang out with. But don't let that go to your head."
"Wow. Thanks. And yes, I really do want that spot. There's nothing I'd like more, actually." Megan answered quietly. She really didn't want her feeling to be known yet. That could wait. "Ok then. It's yours. Congratulations." Emmett said, smiling. Their food was brought to them then, and the conversation was ended by the wonderful meal.
