I looked up at the giant mansion before me, looming over me like a skyscraper. I sighed and picked up my bags, not knowing how long this would be my home.
My old home- the memorys were already distant. It felt like it didn't exsist, so far away... I could hardly remember it.
As I waited for my dad to approach with the keys to the house, i studied the front garden a bit more. The grass was wet, and I suspected that this new town would rain alot. That annoyed me. Arizona had been so hot, you could bathe in the sun all day... I sighed agian. the grass was also quite tall, so I thought that the prevouis owner to this house hadn't been botherd to lawn mow the area. There were a few flowers, but they were already dying, parched and weak. I hadn't noticed Dad approach. He had tapped me on the shoulder, and I quickly responded by picking up the bags and trying to open the door. It turned out he hadn't even touched the door. he laughed lightly and unlocked the door.
"Our new home." He said under his breath, smiling. I glanced up at him, frowning.
He stepped inside, sniffing. "Oh God... someone hasn't hooverd for a long time." I stepped inside too, sniffing the air, and quickly hid my face behind my hair. "Mmm... I think the first thing we'll need to work on is spring cleaning."
He nodded and quickly scuttled over to the next room. I followed him, and he dumped a suitcase and opened it. My eyes slid off of his brisk unpacking and focoused on the room we were in. A relitavly large fire place, a few candles, one old armchair... and nothing else. The floor was an oak brown, the kind I would've prefferd at our old house. The four walls of the room seemed like they were miles apart, each coated in a rich, plain white. I felt like I was in those kind of rooms you have in dreams, blinding and empty.
My focus was on Dad now, who was also studying the room.
"OK, Kenna, you can go find yourself a room... and start unpacking. Harry's on his way with all the funiture."
"Sure." I mumbles, slowly exiting the room and walking around the mansion, trying to find the staircase.
"Where the heck is the wretched staircase?" I muttered to myself, cross. Why did Dad have to buy such a big house when theres only the two of us?
Once I found the staircase, I mooched up, my eyes wide when I was at the top and aware there was a billion rooms to choose from. I walked into every room, until I found the largest. I settled into it quickly. I opened up my bags and my large suitcase. My beanbag was stuffed in, and I quickly got it out and threw it on to the floor. I jumped onto it, and examined my new bedroom.
This time the walls were violet, and I felt like I was in a much more comfortable envoirment.
"Oh, and darling?" My dad sounded like he was really, very far away, but my sharp ears caught his cry. "You're going to school tommorow!"
I shut my eyes really tight, and when I opened them agian, I could see a teenage jungle- a crowd clusterd together, pairs walking together, laughing really loudly, some loner kids who had there heads stuck into books. My mind was confused- and so was Dad.
"I got told this was a... posh school. But anyway. Have fun, Kenna." He opened he door for me an I climbed out. I nearly stumbled and fell. Dad quickly caught me.
"Don't stumble all the time, Kenn. See ya later, then."
I took a deep breath as he left. I can't belive he was doing this to me! I should've at least had one day off.
"Yo, newbie!" A bunch of gangsters called to me, but I ignored them, walking on. I knew something wrong was going on.
I walked, not knowing where I was going. Once I caught the Reception sign, I quickly scuttled over to the glass doors. I pushed them open, finding an old lady sitting behind a desk, sorting out some paperwork.
"Hello, dear. What can I do to help you?"
"Uh, I'm the new kid..." That sounded so wrong. "I'm Kenna Blackwall... my first class is, uh, Maths... I wonderd if you could help me?"
"Sure." She left her paperwork and reached out to a draw, pulled it open, picked up a few leaflets and handed them to me. "Theres the map of the school, and a few extra things. Have fun, dear."
If someone said "Have fun" one more time, I would murder them.
The map made no sense to me. I think I had lost all my sense since the move. I couldn't find or do anything... everything in my world was blank.
I evntually found room 108. I shut my eyes and stepped in. The teacher was looking at me like I was ma, but then suddenly changed his expression and smiled poiletly.
"You must be Kenna Blackwall... welcome. Come, I've already got a seat for you."
I glanced at the person I was going to be sitting next to for the rest of the semester. He was tall... and dazzling. He had sparkling blue eyes, blonde hair that sticked out... and suited him in so many ways. He smiled at me the moment I sat down.
I think i'm in love with a person I've only known for , like, 5 seconds.
Now that is so out of order.
