All of a sudden I stopped walking, for something was in front of me and I didn't know what it was. I wasn't about to find out either. I turned around slowly and ran super-duper fast to get home. I didn't know what it was but deep down inside I knew wanted to find out.
I went back to the same spot in the forest I was in the day before. I saw the same creature that I had briefly viewed. From what I could tell I swore it was a wolf. I wasn't sure though. I didn't want to tell my parents because I thought they might think I was like the little boy who cried wolf. So I kept my secret of the wolf to myself.
How I wanted so dearly to be able to tell someone. So the next day when I went to school I told my friend Ann to meet me at my house that night. As I asked there she was right when I got off the bus. I didn't tell her why I wanted her to come over but I could tell she knew that there was adventure involved.

I didn't tell her why I wanted her to come over but I could tell she knew that there was adventure involved.
As we walked towards the place where I saw the wolf, she kept tugging on my sleeve. Saying " Roy, what are we doing back here? You know it's not very safe." Right when said said that we arrived were the wolf was. She automatically stopped talking and looked at the slim shadow. "What is that?" she said in a scared voice.
See there is something out there that is why I kept coming out here. "Well it is still unsafe out here and I am going to have to tell your mom." She said. You can't I think that this wolf is hurt. I have been coming up here for two days and he hasn't moved but the slightest bit.
"Please don't tell my mom" I pleaded. "I'm sorry but I have to." she replied. "If you tell the poor wolf will be gone and I really want to help it!" I screamed quietly. "Okay fine I won't tell her but you have to because it's the only way we might be able to save the poor thing" She said caringly.
That night I went home and told my mom and dad about the wolf shaped figure. As I predicted they thought I was lying. I kept trying and trying to tell them but they wouldn't believe me. Finally I called Ann and she told them the truth about the wolf and how it seemed so sick. Can you believe it they will believe Ann but they won't believe me their own kid.
The next day Ann and I took my parents up to where the wolf was. My dad called the police and they came out to investigate. Ann and I were so nervous that the wolf might have to be put to sleep we were holding hands. I can't say I am complaining.
Each night we would call each other and make sure we both knew the same things. After we talked we would take the phone to our parents and the moms would talk to each other. Then Ann and I would go to sleep to get up early the next morning.
Every morning we would wake up at 6:30 am to get ready and be ready to go by 7:00. We always wanted to get there early to make sure the wolf was okay. After a while I started to feel like the wolf was and family member and so did Ann. So we decided to give her a name (the wolf).
Ann thought that because the wolf was a girl she should get to name her, but I do not feel the same way. So we decided to name her together. We kept thinking of names but none of them we liked for her. Finally we thought of Eliona. We both liked it.
We weren't sure if Eli liked it but she's a wolf so I don't think she cares. " I really don't want to have to see Eli go" I said holding back my tears. "Me either" she said "None of us want to." "What happens happens for a reason." Right? I asked.
"Of course" she said confidentially. Alls well that ends well." she said. "Okay I have no idea what that means." I said. "It means that what's good will stay good." she said again. "That helps." I said holding back a ocean of tears.
The next day I started to get worried about Ann because she wasn't at school. After school I stopped over at her house and I heard the mist awful scream. "Ann" I whispered softly. Then I knocked on the door. A young looking person came to the door. "What do you want?" she said. Um, I stuttered. Are you Ann's mom? " Yes and she's busy right now.
I was still extremely worried about her so I went to my mom and told her about the scream I heard and all the bruises I saw the day before on Ann's body. My mom called Child Protective Services and they went and took Ann away from her mom because of abuse and her mom was placed in jail. I was worried that I would never see Ann again.
"Mom" I asked "where is Ann going to live?" "I don't know honey" She could tell I was worried because of the look on my face. " Will I ever see her again?" I questioned. "Yes sweetie you will" she said to cheer me up. "How do you know? I asked again. "Well there are some things that a mother just knows" she replied. Thanks mom.
Tears filled my eyes as my mom told me horrible news. "Roy I have to tell you something." She said. You know that Ann was being abused by her family both emotionally and physically right?" she said in a low sad voice. "Yes I know. Why" I said gently. "Well it turns out that it was to late for Ann. She got abused so much that she um." She took a long while. "Mom keep going." I said. "Roy, Ann died last night.
All of a moment of time, I started sobbing. My mom tried to comfort me but it just wasn't possible. I felt as if I had been hit by a truck. "Her funeral is on Thursday at noon. I think it would be nice if you went." My mom said. "Okay" I said broken hearted.
For some reason I couldn't stop thinking of a song. A song called Alyssa lies. It made me think over and over about Ann. I couldn't imagine her being dead. It was so hard to believe.
This song makes me think of her because she always was coming to school in long sleeve shirts. Even in the summer. All along it was to hide her bruises.
The next day I decided to go see Eli, so I walked up the path alone. I was walking and when I got up where Eli had been, I became surprised. She was trying to raise up and walk away. I ran all the way home to tell my mom and dad because I saw blood all over Eli.
My mom immediately called the police. They had been handling everything after they found out. When the police got to the area they told four officers to bring over a bed that they used for people. they put Eli on top of it and carried her away.
My mom and I followed the ambulance as it took Eli to the animal hospital. I was so worried about her because she was like a pet to me. She was now part of my family.
Eli had to stay over night in the hospital. My mom told me that we would come back in the morning. I didn't want to leave Eli but I knew I had to. I bent down to be equal with her ear. "Bye" I whispered.
The next day I went into the animal hospital and I saw Eli in a extra large cage standing up. Eli" I screamed. I opened the cage and petted her because I knew she would let me. Oh mom there is no way that she can go back out there. She is innocent can we keep her as my dog?
I could tell my mom was thinking about it really hard. "
I guess if she behaves. She said you can stay! I shouted to Eli. I was so excited. "Mom can we go bye Eli a bed and collar and everything she needs?" I asked my mom. Yes we can.
So we went to a store and I grabbed all the stuff we needed for Eli. I wasn't sure what kind of dog food to get for Eli. So I just grabbed the chicken kind. I hope she likes living with us. I told my mom.
We took Eli home and my dad started freaking out. " What is that wolf doing in here? "He shouted. "Relax Jeff" My mom said. "This is Eli and she is my dog because we can't let her go out into the woods." I said. He will get used to it. i hope.
The next day I awoke and told my mom I was going to take Eli on a walk. We were walking down the street when we passed a scary house that had a lot of people in front of it. So Eli and I decided to check it out and find out why there are people in front of an abandoned house.
We walked up and saw a guy who looked kind of friendly and we went up and asked him what was going on. " A show is trying to find out if this house is haunted or not." He said. "Oh okay thanks for telling me" I replied.
As I walked home silently, I thought about how I could help these people find what they are looking for.
As I got home I went up to my mom. “Mom is there such a thing as ghosts?” I asked. “Well, I am not for certain” she said. “Do you remember the old house down the street?” I asked her. “Yeah why”? She asked me.
“There is this show that hunts for ghosts and tries to make the house look haunted. They are going to look around the house and see if it is. I really don’t know if I believe in this or not.” I said.
I am so nervous. Today is the first day of school. Yesterday was the last day of summer. Or as I call it “The end of freedom”. I am going to be in seventh grade. This is going to be so hard without Ann.
“Mom, Can I go to Internet schooling? They send you a computer and it is free. Can I please?”
“Well maybe, but the first semester of the school year I want you to go to school. Next Semester we’ll talk.”
“Okay, Well, I’ll be in my room. Getting ready for Monday. Call me when dinner is done, Okay?”
“Alright then, Make sure you read ahead in your text books. You know how it helps to be ahead.”
“Okay Mom, I will.” As I started to walk to the stairs to go read I turned around slowly and said “Mom, it is going to be really hard to start school tomorrow, without Ann. I am nervous.”
“Don’t worry sweetie everything will be fine. You will make plenty of friends.”
“Thanks mom, I’m going upstairs.”
So I went upstairs and I started studying, then I paused for a moment to look at Eli and a picture of Ann.
“You know Eli, I never got to tell her I loved her.”
Eli turned her head as if she understood what I was saying.
“You are the last piece of her that I have.”
So I continued studying until my dad finally called me down for dinner.
You would expect a normal “Come down for dinner” but no. My dad gets his big metal triangle and chimes it with a metal spoon. Lucky for my neighbors, we eat dinner early. I knew that this sound meant dinner is ready. Eli did too!
“I’m coming Dad.”
“I looked at Eli and said “You know, no one would ever figure you are a wild wolf from outdoors. They would think you are a Siberian Husky. I love you, Eli. Come on lets go get dinner.” I said patting her stomach.
