The icy streets of Hullton glittered as the wintery sun glared down through the delicate bare branches of the frosty trees. A leaf fell onto the paving but was immediately destroyed and blown away by a pink bicycle. Upon the bike, sat a young girl with her books safely stowed in the pink basket at the handlebars. The girl focused her attention on the large plain building in the distance. A sign about a metre above the heavy doors read 'Hullton high school.' The girl suddenly veered off the pavement and into a leafless bush.
"s**t!" she exclaimed, collecting her books, which had scattered in amongst the snow. The sheer iciness of the books stung her grazed palms. She was suddenly aware of somebody standing behind her.
"Need a hand?" The girl turned to face this stranger. He was a boy, quite tall and handsome.
"Yes." She said, her voice as frosty as the weather.
"I'm Nate. Nathaniel Davies." The boy's lip twitched as he bent down to help her.
"Kate. Em... Katrina Jones." The girl hurriedly stuffed her once organised books into the basket, before pulling her bike back upright.
"School?" Nate climbed back to his feet.
"Something along those lines." Kate sighed, mounting her cycle.
"Gee, you're so cheery." Nate said, Kate turned her head and noticed that he was grinning.
"I know." She saluted him before continuing her journey.

Kate fell into her seat. Beside her sat Maria, a girl whose ancestry was Spanish.
"Hey, you look happy!" Maria raised one neatly shaped eyebrow.
"Do I?" Kate smiled.
"You're blushing. Did you leave home wearing your PJ's again?" Maria said, sympathetically.
"No! Well, yes, but that's not why I'm blushing!" Kate sat back in her chair.
"Whatever." Maria giggled. Bulmfract entered looking grim. Kate pointed this out to Maria who replied with a simple 'maybe he knows his nickname." Kate sniggered and turned her attention back to Bulmfract.
"Now students, as ridiculous as it is to join the school at this time, we have a new pupil." He droned. The secretary, Ms. Porloin entered, ushering a boy in too. Nate.
"Students. Mr. Nathaniel Davies shall be joining us for a short while. Please be civil, although is you care to burn him for witchcraft as they attempted to in his previous school, feel free to do so." Bulmfract cracked something that almost resembled a smile with something in his voice nearly close to emotion. Nate frowned, then noticed Kate and let his white blonde fringe fall over his face.
"Ooh. Clock Emo boy. Reckon he's a cutter?" Kate heard Britney snigger from behind her. She turned around.
"Say one more word, and I'll pull your peroxide hair so hard you wont know which parts are extensions anymore." Kate hissed. Britney looked taken aback.
"b***h." She smiled meanly. Kate turned back to see a very shocked Maria staring.
"OMG! You just threatened Britney!" She squeaked. Kate nodded. Nobody ever threatened Britney unless they wanted a b***h fight. Kate looked back at Nate.
"Now, Mr. Davies, where shall we sit you?" Bulmfract smirked tauntingly, "Next to Kate Jones I think." Nate sighed a sigh of relief and sat next to Kate.
"Hi." He said.
"Hi." She replied.
