I was standing there, just watching that statue, remembering what happened 3 years ago. It felt weird standing on a concrete-cement sidewalk, staring in broad-day light to my once best friend, now gone from the tangible world.
I couldn't help myself but thinking that I could've done something. Something that would've changed the result that is now before my eyes. sad
This whole thing started 3 years ago. The whole story isn't very much long, but I will replay the whole until the day I die.
I was walking down this same path I was on, 3 years later, and I noticed this averaged sized teenager, around the age of 16, she was just standing there, staring at an empty spot in the grass, this spot was to be later replaced by a statue of marble.
Wanting to meet her, I came up to her and asked her her name. She replied in a sweet, angel voice, "Christine".
The way she said the word, and the actual word itself, will forever ring in my ears.
She then asked me, and I replied: "Cody"
She smiled and said that it was a nice name. I was never fond of my name.
We started to talk, and found out that she loved many of the things I did, animals, paranormal cases, and most of all, adventures.
She seemed like the perfect girl, and she was heart . I walked her home and then I left for mine, which just happened to be next to hers. Odd. I never noticed her there before.
2 Days Later...
I was walking down the sidewalk again, and saw her, just standing there, as if waiting for something to happen.
I asked what was she doing, and she replied that she had met a strange man in ragged clothes, with a ripped up fedora, and baggy pants. She said that the man had said that in exactly 4 days after she had finished talking with him, that the man would appear from an area in near the sidewalk. She said that the man would immortalize her beauty in a way that would be forever captivated by people, generations to come.
I of course was very troubled by this, and asked when she saw him, she replied "Just 2 days ago, so right now I'm gonna wait right here"
I tried to talk her to go home, thinking that this could be something bad, but she wouldn't here it.
I stood with her, ready for whatever was to come.
2 hours passed, and nothing happened.
1 hour passed, and a strong gale stirred up.
The trees swayed, and the grasses looked like they were dancing. Even though this was a park, the animals stopped, and the people were gone.
Then all of a sudden. Everything stopped.
Suddenly a man appeared from behind the brush. He saw that I was there. He asked would I like to be immortalized like she was about to.
I was already scared, but when he asked this, I was really scared. He took out a long cane that he had hidden in his ragged coat.
He waved the cane around and started to whip a whirlwind.
I couldn't believe my eyes. Christine was just standing there waiting for what was going to happen, and I thought to myself, she isn't the smartest one, is she? But she was, she got scared as the man pointed the stick at both me and her, she pushed me out of the way, and knocked me off.
I stumbled up from behind a bush, the man didn't notice me, and he was chanting something, pointing the stick at Christine, I got up close, close enough to push the Ragged Man, close enough to push him enough to stop whatever he was going to do, to stop what was to come.
But I didn't.
The man led out a loud screech, almost, unearthly, he grew to the size from an old man, to 6 1/2 foot tree!
And I was petrified.
Christine was turning white, and white and whiter still, a white that I had never in a human. She started to yelp, and her eyes closed.
She stopped squirming, and the man stopped chanting.
I saw what had happened...
3 Years later, and I still don't know what happened.
Until today.
Just yesterday, I went to the library to look up stuff on the paranormal, I found out that the man was a wizard, and that he had turned Christine into a statue. He was a bad man, he was just a confused one. Probably trying to prove himself to someone, maybe a mentor, or maybe himself. Whatever the reason, he did it, he had done a spell to turn a human being into a marble statue.
And now every day, I go to that spot, the spot that made me believe, that there is more than what we can see, what we can feel, what we can touch.
Till this day, I visit her. Because her soul is still there. Maybe trying to find a way out, or maybe living a life of unmoving. I just know she's there.
And one day, I might see her again.
But until then, I will continue to visit her. Needless of what people think of me, because I know what I saw that day, 3 years ago.
The End.

- Hm... Can you try not to use the emoticons? They mess with the tone of the story.

- this is a sad, scary, but moving story. 5/5 for the skill in bringing out such emotion.
