tab I walked over to an old pile of straw and sat down on it. It had taken me a day and nigh of walking to get there and I was exhausted. I lay back, closed my eyes, and drifted off to sleep.
tab A loud knock on the barn door woke me but only when a column of light landed on me did I open my eyes. I slowly sat up and took a good look at the person that had disturbed me. To my great surprise it was the second hired hand, with a bottle of blood wine in his hand.
tab I had not taken the time to notice what either of the two had looked like when I had first seen them. Now, however, I took time to observe what the one that had not spoken to me looked like and I was a little taken back by his appearance.
tab His hair was umber brown and wild. Some of it hung in his face over his left eye. His eyes-the one I could see that is- were green-blue. The thing that had caught me off guard was the color of his eyes. I had never seen a color like that before. His gaze was wary as it rested upon me but it was also strangely curious and I knew why. My eyes had turned hazel again in the light from the open barn door but I had a feeling that the boy had seen them when they had changed from their Vampire red. He seemed to be the same age as me and, despite the strange eye color, completely Human.
