The moment I shut my eyes to sleep I was greeted by wonderful darkness. I had pulled off an eight hour day at Bob Evans and it had left me exhausted. Then, the familiar voice of Amber was detected in the far corners of my senses. “Jo-Jo? Jo-Jo? Please wake up.”
Her voice was frantic, which made me very scared. I forced myself to become awake, only to be blinded by extremely bright hospital like lights. I felt like I was dizzy, but I knew that I wasn’t really. My eyes adjusted, and I focused on Amber and Kimberly, who were sitting on my immediate right. That was when I noticed that I was lying in a white hospital bed, not my own at home. Okkkaaaay, this was already kinda weird, even for one of my dreams. Amber and Kimberly were both servers at Bobs’ and I had no idea why I was seeing them right now. “Hey, glad to see you join the world of the living.” A male voice said.
I looked over to see Don and Brittney, both of which were bussers, on my immediate left. “What am I doing here?” I said in a hoarse voice. Hmm, apparently I had been here quite a while.
A white hand shoved a glass of juice towards me and I sat up. “They must have knocked you around harder then we expected. Don’t you remember anything?” Katey, who worked on grill line, inquired.
I guess that was the magic phrase, because all of my dream ‘memories’ flooded back into my head. I thought about how ridiculous all of this was. Apparently, I was the Master General in soon-to-be-Empress Kimberly’s army. We were fighting against another race called the Suriamins, and they had recently sent just plain thugs to try and carry out yet another assassination attempt on Kimberly’s life. It was pretty pathetic, seeing as we just threw them over the railings, or through the glass-like floor to fall to their deaths. Fortunately the floor would eventually fix itself. Unfortunately, one of these base, what we call ‘drones,’(those who do as ordered, without independent thought, and are mass trained) grabbed my leg and yanked me down with them. Both of us smacked onto the landing one level below (thank GOD I landed on top!) but I was still seriously injured and don’t remember much of what happened next. Kayla took a chair from the other bed side and sat in it, looking real goofy with that smirk she wears when she makes a serving mistake, and rolled her eyes at Zack, who wore his same serious host look that he always does.
I felt so at home, like this was where I belonged, like this was my family. I some how knew who was close to who, like ranking and position and just plain emotional. Amber was Kimberly’s confidant, and closest friend. They knew everything about each other, but both of them could kick some serious a**. Amber also happened to be her fail-safe bodyguard, as she never left Kimberly’s side. Next down was me, the Master General. I commanded all fighting personnel, and still managed time to spend with my best friends, who came right after me in line, Don and Brittany. They were my First and Second in that respective order. I also spent time with Kimberly and Amber, but a little less. My job was to protect them at all costs, not buddy them, but it was nice. Then came the other three, as equally important Advisors. They held the same general standing as me, but they were more able to help make good decisions, rather than have to make the spur of the moment ones, the ones I like to make. But the fun thing was that we cared so much for each other that it didn’t matter about the ranks, it mattered about all of us standing as one, and protecting one another. But mostly Kimberly. Our race depended on her survival to being crowned, as she was the last of her line. Yeah, I know. How original.
