• Preface
It all starts with a plan. Anything, Even if you don’t know it, but something’s can happen, and you can explain them. They just do. But some things care meant to happen, we call it destiny. I believe that everything happens if you want it to; that you make all the decisions and the outcome is what happens because you chose that. Some things have a cause, or not. This story, its none of these. I believe it is a special one. I have never told anyone my secret, so please, Don’t Tell my MOM! I’m sharing this with you because I believe you can keep a secret. There is no reason for it; this story wasn’t meant to happen. Believe me. It’s life changing. And it all started like this:

    CHAPTER 1

    Diary, day 1. March 1st 2010.
This morning began like every other one. I woke up, ate, got ready for school, and my little brother, Jon, stole my journal again. I normally don’t really care about this kind of thing. But instead of this diary holding fantasies and dreams and the problems I have, it now holds secrets. Secrets no one can find out about. My mother can never find out about my powers. My best friend also is one, but her father passed it to her. This means my father must have passed it down to me. He didn’t have the chance to tell me before he died, this means that he could have not told me about this my whole life. As for my brother, Jon, he isn’t a wizard. The magic is only passed down through the first born child. Or in some cases twins would both get half of the powers. But I have this feeling all the time now, that something, strange or bad, is going to happen to me. That’s it for now.

Give it back!” I threw my arms out but Jon moved out of the way before I could grab him.
“What’s the magic word?” He asked in a sassy voice still holding the book away from me.
“Uh, NOW!” I was trying not to yell but it came out as loud as possible. I was trying to be quiet because I didn’t want my mother to walk into the middle of this. I had to ruin it. My mother walked in a few moments later.
“What seems to be the problem here?” she asked in her usual questioning voice. She was always asking questions, it didn’t matter if it was when I was going to the mall or to the movies but she always suspected I was lying. I would never do that. Except in the back of my mind held the very first lie I ever had. Other than that she was dressed like her normal self in the morning. Her robe, her wet hair in a towel, and slippers with her newspaper under her arm and her cup of coffee in her hand. “He stole my journal AGAIN!” I told her trying to get my brother to give it back to me. My mother seemed to take no interest in what I was trying to tell her, but still helped me out.
“Jon, Give Destiny her journal back or you won’t be able to go to your friends’ house after school tomorrow.” She looked at him with that stare that always made him feel guilty.
“Hmm.” He crossed his arms and tilted his head as if he were thinking, “FINE!” He yelled and threw the journal across the room. It landed at my mothers’ feet. My heart skipped a beat and then stopped. She began to pick it up.
“Mom.” I said so she wouldn’t pick it up. I put my fingers behind my back and pointed to the kitchen, chanted a spell in my mind and then it smelled like something was burning. “Did you leave something on the stove?” Using another spell, I made her think her tea was burning.
“Huh! My Tea!” she said and ran off to the kitchen.
I slowly walked over and sighed in relief as I picked up my journal. I had it back in my hands… then Jon walked over.
“I saw what was in there.” he told me. He acted like a 3 year old at times, but he is 8. He continued anyway “I’m gonna tell on you.” and he began to walk away toward the kitchen.
“Jon, I swear to god if you tell anyone about him—.”
He looked at me confused. “Him? I mean that you’re a wizard.” he told me.
    “ No you won’t.”
“Yes I will!” he began to run toward the kitchen and beat me there.
“Mom Destiny’s a wi-” I covered his mouth before he could say the word.
“A willing person to make you some Tea.” I said in an unsure voice that sounded like I was making it up on the spot, which I was. Luckily, my mother paid no attention to it. “Well that would be nice dear, thank you very much.” she smiled and walked away.
“You little twerp, what is it gonna take to make you shut up?” I asked. Every time I needed him to not do anything I wasn’t supposed to know about, he decided that it would cost something. You get used to it after a while.
“I don’t know. Money, something I want that belongs to you, money, or money.” he said and smiled.
“I’ll give you my Jeyden Markaylne CD for a week. That’s it. And no erasing anything or I will kill you!” He shook his head in disagreement.
“No, I think letting me draw on your Jeyden Markaylne Poster that signed…” he smiled and his voice trailed off.
“How much dough will it cost you?”
    “About 5-10 dollars.”
“I’ll give you five.” I told him and took out a 5 dollar bill.
I rolled my eyes and handed the money to him. “Here.” I said flatly.
“Thanks! Your secret s safe with me! Ha-ha.” he ran off to his room.
At that time my mother had walked in the room.
“Are you getting ready for your first day of school?” she asked me. I hadn’t realized that I still haven’t gotten dressed yet.
“Yeah, I’m going to do that right now.” I smiled and went to my room.
Carefully looking at the door, I pulled out a big book. It was fairly old, and the cover was leather. It had a strap that tied around it to keep it closed. This was my magic book.
I quickly skimmed through the pages:
    Listening spell
    Unicorn spell
    Earth spell
    Water spell
    Fire spell
    Air spell
    Food spell
    Forgetting spell
    Mind eraser spell
    Reverser spell
    Back in time spell
    Forward in time spell
    Time travel spell
    Pants spell
    Shirt spell
    Changing your hair spell
    Changing your clothes spell
“Perfect.” I whispered to myself. I pulled out the wand I had hidden under my pillow and began to recite the spell as I waved my wand.
“These clothes are old an gross,
and I‘ve been wearing them for quite awhile,
Give me new ones with coolness and style!”
Magic light came out and surrounded me and then I was wearing something different.
I shoved the book and my wand under my bed and packed my things that I needed for the whole year and then finally left the room. My mother was waiting to give me a hug.
“Have a wonderful year sweetie.” she told me in a very sweet voice.
“Thanks mom.” I said hugging her back and giving out a small laugh while I said it.

The bus arrived and I got on meeting my best friend, Jadelyn. She was my absolute best friend, no one else could take her place.
“So how was your morning?” she asked me.
“Well, Jon stole my journal again. Found out I’m a wizard, took 5 bucks from me so he wouldn’t tell my mom. My mom was waiting outside my door when I used magic to change my clothes, but thank god she didn’t know. She almost found out about Jeyden and he is coming over tonight.” I left out a huge sigh after taking a deep breath.
    “Wow.” she said.
“I know.” I said back to her. Jadelyn was one of my best friends and was the only one who knew about my powers. She had magic powers too, which made us instantly connect with each other. At lunch, we would always leave and practice our magic skills. But Jadelyn informed me that her father was a wizard and passed it down. So every Tuesday and Thursday I go to her house so her dad can teach us magic.
Today was a Tuesday, which meant we learned a spell and had a mini test on something we learned last week.
“So, are you ready for the test tonight?” I asked her in a flat voice.
“Yeah, it’s the transformation spell. We should practice at lunch. I’m gonna change into a butterfly. What will you turn into?” she asked. She was really good at that spell, and I wasn’t really.
“ I might turn into like a bird or something” I told her.
    “Pretty.”
    “Yeah.”
The bus pulled up to the school and then we headed off to the lobby with our luggage and signed in and got a room. Our school was always different. Instead of going to school and coming back home everyday, we stay on the school campus all year long. Until the summer then we leave and go back home. But we could use the teleportation spell to get to her dad’s house.
“Ok Destiny Caltana.” She repeated my name until she found the room I was in, “Ok Destiny, you are in room 432. Take the elevator to the 4th floor and then go down the hall and make a right. You get the sweet with 1 other person.” she told me as she handed me the key. Jadelyn came up after me.
“Okay, Jadelyn Vascavo.” she repeated her name to.
“Oh here you are. You are sharing a sweet with Destiny Caltana. Room 432. Up the elevator to the 4th floor and down the hall until you can make a right.” she said handing her a key too.
I couldn’t help but smile. “Yes! We are in the same room.” I said.
“I know! This is going to be great!” she said.
We followed the lady’s instructions and found our room. When we entered it, it looked like a house inside of the hotel.
“I can’t believe you paid for this.” Jaydelyn said to me.
“Well, I have my ways. Magic is usually involved.” I told her.
We both laughed and settled into our home for the next 240 days.
We were laughing so long that I almost didn’t hear the knocking at our door.
I walked over and opened it. There was a girl, one by whom I didn’t know the name of, holding two envelopes. The girl smiled sweetly.
“You’re class schedules.” she told me.
“Oh. Thank you very much.” I told her.
“No problem,” she paused and began to start conversation. “Hey, what grade are you in? I’m new here and this place is so big, I don’t know what to do.” she smiled a shy smile.
“ Oh I’m a freshman, and you get used to it. I’ve been here my whole life. What’s your name?” I asked her. she hesitated at first but then answered. “Delilah. Delilah Morgan.” that was the second person I knew with a name as weird as mine.
“Hello Delilah, My name is Destiny Caltana.” I told her. “Would you like to come inside?” I asked her. She shook her head.
“ No thanks, I have to deliver the rest of these envelopes to people. Maybe some other time.” she smiled another sweet, and apologetic, smile and ran down the hall. I walked back into the living area where Jadelyn was sitting on the white leather couch. She looked at me confused at why I was gone so long. I held out the envelope to her. “Schedules.” I opened it.
“Ok, period one Trigonometry two.” a nod.
    “Biology two.” another nod.
“Gate three, enrichment two lunch and lunch.” a nod again.
“Gym two, Vocabulary four, World History two, World language three.” hesitation as she read over her schedule, and then a nod. A smile crossed her face. “All of our classes together!” I was so happy. That I could hardly breathe.
“So, want to go outside and practice our magic?” Jadelyn asked me after we had calmed down. At this point anything was great. “Sure. Why not?” I told her.
We walked outside and into the big courtyard.
“Ok. Umm. Mini quiz. You first. Teleportation spell, go.” I said quickly, surprising her. She completed the spell with no problem at all. She smiled.
“Ok, Air spell. Levitate me.” she said. I was never quite as good at that spell, so that is probably the reason she chose it.
Taking a deep breath, I began to relax. I began to wave my hands. Saying the spell in my mind.
An easy way out of state help me make her levitate.
    And again.
An easy way out of state, help me make her levitate.
Then I began to concentrate harder as I felt the tingly feeling of magic welling up inside me wanting to burst out. When my body was full I began to make a swirling motion with my hands, as I pushed the magic out to her, causing her to start lifting off the ground.
My eyes were still closed, if I saw the slightest thing move I would lose concentration and drop her. I began to lower her back down and open my eyes. I smiled. I completed the trick with no problem. We both smiled at each other and laughed. I would always drop her father at a lesson, which was why I was surprised at completing it with no problem.
At that moment, the headmistress of the school came out into the yard. “Miss Vascavo and Caltana, Why are you here and not at the meeting?” she asked us in her British accent mixed with American.
“Headmistress Hostlemeyer, we are Freshman now. We are not in 8th grade anymore.” I pointed out.” Yes Miss Caltana, I’m aware of this, But all freshman are supposed to be in the auditorium. Now go, before I make you stay late and clean the desks in all the rooms.” she told us with a serious look on her face.
If You think that that would be a cruel punishment, your wrong. That is considered easy work. Especially with a group of friends. Sometimes you have to clean the whole school by yourself for back talking a teacher. I once had a after school gym detention, worst day ever. Mr. Nerba made me jog around the track for an hour, do pull-ups for a half hour. Lift weights and clean the gym.
Jadelyn and I looked at each other, then back to Headmistress Hostlemeyer. We gave swift nods and ran off to the auditorium.
We walked in as they finished giving the rules.
“Do not be late to anything or you will serve service after school.” they looked over the crowd. The lady talking was slim and tall, with curly blond hair. After looking over the crowd, she listed the next rule. “ Also back talking, or talking in class is not acceptable. This will get you 24 hours services and 6 pages of extra homework.” she paused. “ Which brings me to the next rule. Bullying, fighting, and swearing not permitted on campus or in dorms. This will result in 1 week of services, non stop, 15 pages of homework extra.” she told everyone. “Any questions?” she asked. I raised my hand.
“Yes, what is it?” she asked me.
“Oh, Umm I was just wondering what would happen if you don’t do your homework or fail a test.” I asked.
“Oh well that something major. That would be Suspension from that class for 3 weeks, service after school for 50 hours until finished.” she told me.
“Jeez.” I said as she turned around. She turned back around.
“Did you say something that wasn’t to me when the headmaster was talking?” she asked.
“Yes.” I told her shyly. “ What the heck did I do? I didn’t do anything wrong.” I realized what I had just done. I had back-talked her.
“Back talking?” she asked. “You must be Destiny Caltana.” she said.
“Yes I am.” I had a temper and my voice was getting louder by the minute.
She seemed to know who I was. That is when Jadelyn stepped in. “Yeah she is, and she is one heck of a person I can tell you that.” she smiled then realized she had just back-talked her too.
“You two, Headmistresses office. Now.” she said firmly.
