Life on the surface of the world can be so boring. Same things happen almost repetitively: the arrival of Sephiroth, the battles of good and evil, and even sometimes, the death of a loved one. However, how strange woiuld it be if one new place existed right underneath that world? From my point of view, that's what I didn't want to believe...
The sky above me was a dull iron grey, heavy with the smell of rain. I could remember the aged brown canyons that stretched before my sight, the crags jutting upwards from the earth like teeth that didn't quite fit. However, this quiet, solemn place was about to be the last thing I would ever see...
I sighed and shifted my weight from one side of my bike to the other, staring deep into space while dwelling on my thoughts. Memories of the battles I've fought flashed before my eyes. I shook my head. What battles that were in the past should've stayed in the past, but why they haunted me was unknown.
I knew why: I felt regret, regret for not having saved my dear friend Zack before his fall to the Shinra troops that overwhelmed him, or Aerith before Sephiroth sailed down and impaled her with his wicked masamune. These memories, these haunting memories, filled my head and crawled all over my skin.
I shook out my thoughts and turned to the empty plains. I groaned; I've wasted about an hour meddling with my head, also kind of on break from the delivery service in Edge City, the backwater city reconstructed from the fallen rubble of Midgar. I adjusted my sunglasses over my eyes and leaned down to start my engine.
A volt of pain shot down my left arm. I winced and looked at it for a minute. I flexed my hand, checking for the numbness that may have developed. I felt nothing, so, resuming to starting the engine, I pulled from the canyons and began my drive back to Edge.
I was not aware of company that had arrived to the plains that perched placidly on the higher canyons, three men (sephiroth's remnants and siblings, if I remember correctly) with silver hair and adorned in black leather mounted on aged, monstrous bikes. The middle one has signalled for the other two to give chase after me. When I did hear them, the first thing that came into my view were screeching Shadow Hounds, claws extended for my face.
I opened the weapons compartment in my bike, safely tucked the assortments of swords I had stored in it. I made a grab for my main mechanized blade, and with a sharp turn I cut down the first Hound that lunged at me.
Having to drive and fight Hounds at the same time was not exactly my forte in combat, but seconds later I found that the Sephiroth remnants, gun-happy Yazoo and dimwitted Loz, were already dogging me through the canyons.
I didn't have a single clue as to why these idiots appeared out of nowhere and started chasing me, nor the reason why they asked for a someone called "mother". But what I did know was this: I was starting to see some weird sh** during my battle.
