• What's going on? Why can't I see anything?! I move my head around, trying to spot him through the tumult of darkness. My forehead is wet with sweat, and I brush it off hurriedly. He can sense my utter panic, and he's enjoying preying on me, playing with me before he moves in for the final strike. Then, I can see again, but only dimly. The light is coming from upstairs, seeping through the door like steam into the basement, chasing away the cold and damp.
Who turned the light on? There's no-one else in the house except for me and him. I run towards the door, but his hand has grabbed the back of my shirt, and he's dragging me down, down to the rats and the gloom, into the very depths of the creaking room. I try to scream, but a cold, lifeless finger is put on my lips and a soft, quiet voice comes creeping towards me in the inky blackness. 'Wherever you went, I would see you. If you tried to run, I would chase. If you tried to hide, I would find. You could never escape me. Your whole life has been leading up to this, and you knew it as much as me. You could never be allowed to live after what you did.
    Goodbye, Andrew.'
I can actually feel his teeth sliding neatly into my neck. My whole body is filled with a dread and pain that is unimaginable, and I feel like death itself. I try to stand up, to run, but my muscles won't work, and I fall back down again, onto the freezing floorboards.
I don't just feel like death. I am death.
