• The Time is 12:31 in the after noon. Rookie Detective Elena Fang Volf is passed out on her couch in her three room apartment that she shares with her half sister, Nina Yuang Xhang, who is currently missing school as she must wake up her only source of transportation to get to school as she is missing the lower part of her right leg from the car accident that killed their mother and Elena’s Step father.
Elena keeps brushing her sister off and tries to sleep off the headache until Nina crawls on her knees and picks up the tape player. She ejects the Tape and giggles happily when her older half sister responds with “Touch my music any further and be forced to live in a chair for the rest of your life.”
The younger sister smiles looking to Elena, “You know you are seven hours late for your first day of work right?”
“******** it; I can’t solve cases with a hang over.”
“Then take some Advil.” Nina mused with a playful tone.
“You know I hate medications.” Elena answered sitting up now. She opens her eyes slightly to see her whole room lit up by the after noon sun. When she deemed it too bright, she lied back down on the couch hiding her head under a pillow. “Turn off the lights. It’s too bright damn it.”
Nina giggled at her sister’s words. “I would, but I would need a black whole to make the sun go out.”
“You are the smart one out of the both of us. Make one out of what we have around the apartment. Just leave my Music out of it.” Elena ordered before sitting up at attention quickly realizing that Nina should not be there. “Why aren’t you in school?” She questioned her sister.
“I can’t get down the steep steeps yet and the bus is annoying.” The child joked to her older sister. Elena lays back down. “Whatever. You’re skipping to day. Tell them your sister got a hangover and said…” Before she can finish, her phone rings again, cutting her off “How many?” She bluntly asked.
    “Including this, 7”
“Damn it.” She picks up the phone and rolls over onto her knees. “Damn this light is bright she said covering her eyes looking to the black carpet. “You’ve reached the soon to be Ex-Drunk. State your name and Number and I’ll get back to you when my sister takes out the source of the bright light.”
Nina points to the cup near the door; as a voice comes in from the other side. It is a male voice, late fifties and heavy with annoyance and light laughter from how stupid Elena sounded from her headache.
“Get your a** in gear Rookie. You’re seven hours late with my Coffee and Eli’s McMuffen.”
“Damn it…Nina where are my damned keys and wallet?”
Nina has already gathered all her things and Elena’s Keys. “I think Ms. Rayne has your wallet again.”
“Fan Bloody tastic.” She replied standing up. “How about the baseball bat.”
Nina points to the wall where the bat is laying against the window. “Damn it…”
Her supiror speaks into the phone. “Problem, rookie?”
“Damn Bartender claimed my Wallet again. Must of Drank myself out of the lucky coin I sown into the damn thing.” She stands up and pops her back. “I should be there by 2:35” She hangs up on her superior as he goes to say something. The Rookie detective pops her neck a few times, ridding herself of her hangover somehow. She tells Nina “let’s go” and the duo leave with Nina in Elena’s arms.
Inside the old clunker Elena calls her car; Nina lays in the back lifting her right leg up and down to keep it in shape until her sister can get her a prosthetic leg. Nina drives with a cigarette in her mouth a half empty can of Budweiser in her right hand and her left hand on the steering wheel. Every red light she drinks some of the flat drink and clears the excess ash from her cigarette on to the road until she arrives at her first destination. “Same old Drill Nina; if they have any questions tell’em to call me at the normal Number.”
    “Suc-kmy-Stic, right?”
“Good girl, I should be back around school letting out to pick you up. If I can’t make it I’ll let the school know that Ether Eli or the Geezer will be picking you up.”
Nina nods and turns around. She starts to walk away and turns. “Have fun at work sis.”
Elena waves to her sister and speeds off; about half way to her destination she gets pulled over for speeding. She curses her luck and pops her neck once more before finishing the can of bud and tossing it to the passenger side, which has enough cans of Bud and empty cigarette packs that the pile reaches the passenger seat’s mid point. Ignoring the on coming officer, Elena feels the need to pull one of the cans or packs to see what would happen. The Officer knocks on her window and she rolls it down still fixated on the pile next to her.
“License and registration please.” The officer requested before looking to the pile. “Mama…How much have you had to drink?” Elena pulls out a single can and the pile does not fall. “Hell yeah! I may suck at the science part but never doubt my…” She finally processes that she is being questioned.
“Grand total as of five minutes ago?” She looks over to the officer not even caring that she is making the situation worse most likely.
    “Yes.”
She looks over to her large pile and starts to run the numbers.
“123 cans of Budweiser, 12 cans of Bud light, 3 cans of Miller light, 24 cans of generic beer 76 cans of non-alcoholic beer wait…those were Nina’s…or was she the miller light…” Completely forgetting the situation she is in, Elena tries to figure out which type of drink belonged to her younger sister.
“Ma’am please step out of the car.”
Elena curses her luck and opens the door. Or well tries to. “Fan-Bloody-tastic” She said leaning the door won’t move again.
“What is the matter?” The officer asked.
“Nothing much the door is…” She gets cut off by her cell phone ringing.
“One moment please.” She pulls out the phone and flips it open. “Talk to me.”
She pulls the phone away from her ear with a quick movement as her boss yells at her. She holds the phone over for the officer. “Trade ya jobs. Catching former drunks like me has to be easier then getting yelled at by the chief.”
The Officer accepts the phone and closes it. “If you are a cop then you must be a real shitty one.” The officer commented.
“And you just hung up on the Chief of police. So who is worse?” Elena said with a slightly playful tone. The officer tosses the phone into the mountain of cans and packs, knocking it down. “You’re the one that pissed him off.”
Elena looks to the falling pile as it moves into her space for driving. “I’ll take the ticket for speeding to go and maybe a few trash bags if ya got any. “Don’t worry you’ll get the ticket and the other seventy five when you get to work.” The Officer waves to Elena slightly annoyed that someone like that made it into the force. Soon after her phone rings again and Elena sighed heavily. “I’m not reaching in there.” She said hoping her boss would hear her words but knew better.
After about twenty minutes she reached the bar and knocked on the door. Soon after the slim, timid bar maid with a seemingly weird obsession for her fox ears and tail that match her hair color opened the door completely.. “Y-yes?” Elena smiles at the girl and places her hand on the girls head. “Rayne in?”
The Fox shakes her head no. She pulls out Elena’s wallet from in between her breasts and says. “Rayne told me to tell you no more drinks until after you pay off your debt. Elena excepts the wallet. “Tell her that She’s already lost her best customer. I can’t be drinking during work.”
Elena ruffles the timid maid’s hair once more and says good bye.
She drove for the office quickly with her right hand on her neck rubbing it. She made the stops she was suppose to and picked up five things of coffee, some McDonald’s and a few packs of cigarettes. She tossed all the cigarettes on to her dash board as she normally does and placed the food in the back to keep the fallen pile of empty drinks and smoke cartons away from it.
