• Tom as the skies burned.

As Tom came to his house he rushed up the stairs and throw open the door and quickly walked in and closed the door behind him. He moved to his window and stared out of it towards the sky. Something brushed against his leg and he cut a glance down to see his dog staring up at him with a questioning gaze. He bent down and put his hand on his dog’s head and said “I don’t know.” He patted the dog for a minute or two trying to comfort himself as much as the dog. Slowly the shock wore off as he pulled himself away from the window and sat down in a chair. He was trying to figure out what it was that had happened, his knowledge of what was going on outside of his house and small town was poor. Could someone have dropped a bomb? Maybe a missile? The only thing I know of to cause a lot of damage is…..No it can’t be…But it must. He shook his head back and fronth as he came to the only thing that he knew of that could cause something like this. Nuclear. That one single word installed a fear in him as he turned his eyes back to the window and the strange glow of the sky.

He stayed in his house as much as possible for the following week. He had food and some water, which he made last the whole week. He quickly found that all the power in the house was gone. His dog went outside a few days after it happened and he hadn’t seen him again. He hoped that he was okay, but his mind always went back to the skies and what would happen when he ran out of supplies. As the supplies got lower and lower he chose that when they ran out he would make his way towards the small town, maybe he could find out something about what had happened. As he ran out of supplies the skies slowly dimed and started to change back to a blue color. He knew that it was time he moved on towards the town, so he grabbed a few supplies.

He striped his pistol on and his hunting knife. He threw a few other items into a backpack and slung it on his back while he slung his rifle on one of his shoulders. He walked to the front door and took a deep breath before he slowly pulled it opened. He moved down the steps and made his way over to his truck and opened the door, he doubted that it would work but he wanted to check before he left. He turned the key and heard nothing. No power just like everything else. He sighed and slowly got out of his truck and closed the door. Walking to the town would take some time, but he could cut through the woods.

He moved on from his truck and started to walk, his feet making little noise as they hit the asphalt. What was that? He cut his eyes over to where a small noise came from with his foot just an inch above the ground. He lowered his foot to the ground and scanned the area. There it is again. With the next sound he zeroed in on where it was coming form as another stick sapped. He pulled his rifle from his shoulder as his heart ponded in his chest and brought it up to his shoulder. He pointed to towards the noise and waited for it to show itself. First a dark brown paw showed through the shadows as it stepped into the light. What the hell? He stared at the brute as it showed a shape that looked like a dog, but this was much larger and heavier. Slowly the beast showed its hind legs and tail as it moved out of the shadows. No…It can’t be… The beast looked at him with a mixture of knowing and hungriness. As his mind figured out what and who it was it lunged straight at him.
