Agent Anemia knelt beside me. “Get a doctor now!” I could hear them say. I was fading into the darkness. I swear I was dreaming when I overheard them talking as they were getting help.
“Oh just leave her there to die, she was a government project anyway. Too bad she’ll never know it.” I heard the Agent called Norm say. Anemia looked at Norm and spoke in a hurtful tone. “She’s not going to die, do you not remember the orders? We were told to hunt her down and take her back to the lab. That’s what I’m sticking to. If you have a problem with that, then get the ******** out of my way.”
My question was why was I never told this? Was I dreaming this or was this what was really wrong with me? It didn’t make any sense, then again of course it did. I started to shake from shock and I was losing this battle for my life. Anemia was injecting me with something that would save my life but would cause me to remember everything. Before it all happened, I head Norm yell at Anemia. “Are you ******** crazy?! She’s going to remember everything!” I blocked out their voices and began to remember everything. It started with the memory of me killing Matthew. I finally understood why I did it.
It was on a February night when Matthew and I were walking down the street back to his house. I didn’t want to remember his screams, I just wanted to understand. He stopped me right before we got to his house and told me something that he’d been hiding for a long time. “Izebella, I need to tell you something.” I just nodded and wanted to listen. “Look, we’re not working out.” I looked at him confused. “I’m seeing someone else, well I’ve been seeing someone else. Please don’t take any of this personal. It’s not you, it’s me. I’m sorry Izebella, I really am sorry. I need you to leave n-“ His voice cut off when he noticed I was clentching my fist. “Look calm down, it’s not like I loved you anyway.” I lunged forward and punched him in the gut. He fell over but I didn’t stop my attack. I dug my nails into his flesh and continued that until I got to his neck. I saved that for last. I wanted to slit his wrist but I didn’t. I just dug my nails into his shoulder and then snapped out of it when he was bleeding on the ground. I remembered screaming for help. Then landing myself at this mental hospital.
My mind went back to the government lab. They were making a super human and they noticed I had the instincts of this super human qualities. I thought I was dreaming as I remembered.
It was when I was ten when I was taken from my family and injected with some serum to make me forget why I was taken away. I woke up in a government lab and there were FBI agents. One was named Norm, the other Anemia. They were there to make my stay more comfortable. They became my friends for a while but it didn’t last long. I tried to escape and they were taken away and replaced by an agent named Todd and another named Kielper. They were rude, heartless and didn’t care what I wanted. They just wanted me gone. I was injected with all kinds of medication. Their wish was granted when I was able to control my super human instincts. I was returned home to my family. My life went to hell after that. It was hell until I met Matthew and him and I began to date.
My mind went forward to when I was returned home to my family. It wasn’t long before I remembered why my family disowned me for a while.
I was returned home from the government lab. You would expect my family to be glad to know that I’m back home. No, that wasn’t the case at all. They all just kind of ignored me, I was okay with it for a while. I started to want some answers on why I couldn’t remember much of my little vacation. They still continued to ignore me. One day there was a knock on the door and it was Matthew who wanted to know if I could hang out with him. My parents didn’t care what I did as long as I was home by ten at night. When you live in a small town, there isn’t much to do. I walked outside and Matthew and I went for a walk. I told him everything I could remember. Ever since I got back from the lab I had been hearing voices and I didn’t know what was going on. I trusted Matthew, he trusted me. “What’s on your mind Izebella?” I heard him ask. “I cant remember much. All I remember was returning home from a vacation and I couldn’t remember anything from my vacation. That and I hear voices, and there’s these cuts on my arms from my family ignoring m-“ He shut me up with a single kiss. By this point we had been dating for about two weeks. He told me something that day that I would always hold dear to me. “Izebella just remember that there are always people who care about you and don’t you ever forget it.” He said then looked me in the eye and walked me home. That was about ten months before Matthew’s death.
I was gasping for air from all these memories flooding back into my mind. I was alive for now at least. Agent Norm looked at me with a smirk, Agent Anemia smiled. “I’m a government project?” I said aloud. They just nodded and I felt the urge to attack Agent Todd who was laughing. I got up and closed my eyes. When I opened then I was smirking and I lunged forward. I grabbed Agent Todd by the throat and threw him into the wall. His neck snapped and he died instantly. Agent Kielper was no match for my strength. He turned to run, I broke his arm and snapped his neck letting him fall to the floor. Blood splattered and hit me in the face when Kielper’s neck snapped. I didn’t flinch, I just laughed.
Agent Norm ran up behind me, knocking me to the ground, stomach first. I grunted and Anemia was right there keeping my head down in the ground. Norm put me in a straightjacket. I couldn’t move even if I tried. They left the room, leaving me there to think. When they came back I was crying. I was remembering what I did to Matthew over and over again. It was haunting me. Anemia was sitting beside me trying to think of what to say. I looked at Anemia and recalled him trying to help me. “Why was I chosen as a government project?” I asked slightly confused. I still hadn’t figured that one yet but I was still remembering something that happened in the lab. Anemia glanced at me and when he spoke, I flinched.
“You know, none of us really know why you were chosen out of the billions of people in this world, your DNA was the best possible match for our project. Your mother and father were a bit too old for this project and your brother and sister weren’t old enough for it. You on the other hand were at the right age. You were ten when you were taken away from your family. They weren’t told anything about this project until you came home. We pulled them aside and explained what was going on. They didn’t understand either, but we tried to explain the best we could without giving everything away. The rest however is classified.” I looked at Anemia and growled. He took notice of the growling and backed away slowly, trying not to make any sudden movements. Agent Norm stood in front of Anemia and wouldn’t move.
“Start explaining.” I growled loudly. Anemia sighed and shook his head. “You know I can’t do that, it’s classified and I would be striken of all my duties.” He said. I growled louder and it was echoing through the room. Norm looked at Anemia who was reaching for the red button on the wall. Norm shook his head at Anemia. “If we’re going to die, we might as well die by the hands of the one we were meant to protect.” Norm whispered. I looked at them and sat down, digging my nails into my wrist. Blood was seeping out from one wrist. Anemia was shouting at Norm to help him. I couldn’t see straight and I knew that I was going to either die or pass out. I didn’t care if I died, I just didn’t want to be this government project anymore. I could hear shouting and Anemia knelt down beside me.
“Can you hear me Izebella?” He asked. I nodded but it felt all too strange to me. He pulled out something and stabbed my arm with it. My vision came back and my wrist was healed. I grabbed Anemia’s throat and squeezed as hard as I could. Agent Norm was trying to help his partner. I eventually let go when I felt something hit me on the back of the head. I growled again and got up from the ground in a stance that was meant to kill. The room was filled with government lab people aiming guns at my head. The next thing I heard was Anemia yelling at the government agents to hold their fire.
“Izebella, if you can hear me, I need you to stop growling and listen to me. I know you’re upset at what is going on. You need to not move, or make any sudden movements. If you can hear me grab my hand but do so slowly or they will shoot.” I slowly reached for Anemia’s hand. Once he felt my hand touch his, the government agents stopped aiming for my head. They looked at Anemia who led me out the room and into a van. It wouldn’t be long before I would return to the place where it all started. Upon arrival I was given an injection that would render me unconscious until the testing was complete. I didn’t know where this lab was located, all I knew is I would be here for a while unless I escaped. That was my new plan; escape. It was either that or remain at the lab for a long time.
Anemia and Norm visited my room several times a day. I had to get their help otherwise it wouldn’t work. “How secure is this place?” I asked when they visited me in the afternoon. I knew there were cameras around my room but they didn’t pick up sound. Anemia glanced over at Norm.
“This place had got the most advanced security around. People don’t even know this place exists and those that do, don’t research it or visit it. There are no visitors. Once you’re here, you’re stuck here until they release you. In your case, they won’t release you because they are afraid that you’ll kill more people. Why are you asking?” I just looked at Anemia because he knew the answer. “Look if you try and escape they will stop at nothing to get you back. If you really want to escape I can help you but you’re on your own after you get out. If you really want to escape you’ll need this.” He said handing me his badge. I took the badge and closed my eyes pretending to be asleep. When they were gone, I dug my nails into my other wrist making sure I would bleed out. It wasn’t a suicide attempt, it was just an escape attempt. The doctors rushed in trying to save me. I slit the throat of the first doctor. Going after the second, I broke their neck and continued to kill more doctors. A team of agents were called but when they arrived they pointed their guns at me. To me it was fun; to them it was serious business. They knew I was escaping one way or another. I lunged forward and grabbed a gun knocking it in the agents face. I used a little too much force and caused the gun to hit the agent between the eyes. It did kill him and I growled at the rest of the agents. I dropped the gun and lunged forward again grabbing the second agent by the throat, tossing them aside like a rag doll. My nails dug into the next agent slicing their throat. I didn’t care how long it took before I was taken down. As long as I wasn’t a guinea pig anymore none of it mattered. A gun fired hitting me in the arm, I just growled louder and lunged forward attacking the one that shot at me. That same person dropped their weapon and screamed as I slit their throat.
There were only a few more agents standing in my way to freedom. An agent shot me in the stomach but then another gun fired hitting the agent. To my luck it was Anemia and Norm helping me escape. I stumbled backwards but quickly bounced back and sprinted for the door. It was blocked by a few agents. My eyelids felt heavy and I collapsed to the floor in front of Anemia and Norm. They were shouting at the agents to leave the room. “Forgive me Izebella” Anemia said as he strapped me down to the bed. I eventually passed out on the bed that I was strapped too, knowing there was no help or hope of me escaping. I gave up on escaping and begged for death to come. I was a super human; death wasn’t something that would come around very often. Death would come if I caused it, not the other way around. Anemia visited my room and was surrounded by more agents this time.
“Izebella, hear me out. I can’t let you escape and kill hundreds of innocent people. You’re a super human, there is no changing tha-“
“Just kill me.” I muttered, interrupting his sentence.
“I can’t do that Izebella. I was told to gain your trust and get you back here. The family that you thought was yours, wasn’t actually your family. What you can’t remember is that you killed them when you were ten. You set the house ablaze and walked away from the screams of the family. I read about your story in a newspaper about how you were the only survivor in a fire and how nobody else would take you. I picked you up from the foster home and took you here. You had already killed and you were the perfect match for this new super human project. We began to inject you with medicine to enhance your killing instincts. When you were old enough you were going to work for the government. We returned you to a foster family and gave then the names of your family members that you killed. It wasn’t long before you found Matthew. He was a government agent as well. He was given orders to love you and you killed him. You never would talk about why you killed him.”
“Then the police got involved and you were sent to the mental hospital. It was another government facility that we had set up. We informed the cops and they played along. You killed Dr. Straton, and Agent Todd as well as Agent Kielper. They knew they were going to die once they met you. You just killed six more agents. Izebella, you’ll be strapped to the bed for a while. You can’t be trusted. You keep killing people because you’re scared of being alone. You’re scared to trust anyone because everyone has abused your trust. You’re scared that you’re being used by the agents here. Am I right?” Anemia finished talking and I squeezed my eyes shut. He was right; I was scared of all of what he said. I was blocking out the urge to kill. It was too strong a feeling.
My arm twitched and Anemia looked away at the other agents. Their eyes were bulging as my broke free of the bed. Next was my leg and I sat up, getting my other arm and leg free. By this point they had their weapons drawn. Anemia had his weapon drawn like the rest of them. I was encouraging them to shoot.
“Go ahead, shoot me……You want to know what you’re scared of Anemia? You’re scared that you’re going to lose your precious job and that all this money you’ve invested in making me what I am will go to waste.” I mocked. He knew I was right. My arm twitched again, my nails were sharp and I smirked. My eyes looked black as I looked down. A gun fired and when I looked up it was too late to dodge it. It nailed me in chest near my heart. Agent Norm was yelling at Agent Anemia to seize fire. He didn’t listen and shot again. It nailed me in the heart. There was no stopping it this time. I fell backwards and onto the bed. A pool of blood surrounded me. I recalled when I ten before I took my last breath.
I was sitting in my room playing with matches. I looked at my pictures and then walked outside. The blaze started and I could hear their screams, my so called family was murdered by my doing.
I took my last breath. “I’m sorry…………for…….everything….” I said as my eyes closed and I slipped into the blackness forever. I was finally dead, happier and free of this place.
