Innocent Tears

• Description: A poem I wrote, not sure of the inspiration. When I shared it, there was an interesting debate about if anything is truly “innocent”. If you're “innocent,” your innocence will always disappear. If you think ahead, you will realize it will eventually shatter, but then you're no longer innocent. So what is “innocence?”

Innocent tears,
fall from the eye,
Innocent child,
standing by.

Innocent tears,
fill you with dread,
Innocent blood,
that has been shed.

Innocent tears,
caused by a friend,
Innocent death,
a child's dark end.

Innocent tears,
brought by abuse,
Innocent anger,
sets something loose.

Innocent tears,
hidden from sight,
Innocent cause,
wanting things right.

Innocent tears,
fall from the eye,
Innocent children,
just standing by.

Innocent tears can destroy things,
poor little children left behind,
Shattered innocence.
