We laughed easily
Chatting noisily and always
Grinning when she would snap
Declaring us the worst she'd taught
"Disrespectful ungracious brutes!"
Was an often heard wheeze in the hall
Outside of the Crabapple's room.
Once, inexplicably, we came to class
And instead of old wrinkled Crabapp,
Sat a smiling little blonde in a pink cardigan.
Something was wrong,
Old Apple never took sickdays.
Worried, we lingered after
Asked, and were sweetly told
That Miss Crabapple had passed away,
I'm sorry.
We still laughed easily
But it was always a smidge quieter
Than it'd ever been before.
The new teach disgusted us
With her candy coated bull
Her "Love of students and their creativity!"
At least Crabapple didn't think that innovation
Was a disease that needed curing.
We had a great idea for Earth Day that year
And now we hear great stories
From our own kids about
The people that meet, and laugh
Perhaps too loudly
Under the Crabapple Tree.
