• A black blanket shrouds the earth,
    As shards of glowing crystal
    Are scattered ‘round the sky.
    And I’ll watch them,
For lack of anything better to do.

    My neck starts to ache,
    For I’ve been staring skyward
    Since the periwinkle
    Shawl of twilight
First started to engulf the earth.

    Slowly, I lean back, until
My body hugs the ground and
My head finds a pillow in leaves.
I dig my fingers into the grass, the dirt,
And all I can think about is you.

Last time I lied here, with you,
The trees might have laughed at us,
Swaying mockingly in the autumn wind,
    But it didn’t matter because
That night was our Love’s birth.

    So here I am,
Lying in a clearing in the woods,
Listening to the wind scream and
    The trees bellow laughter.
    Why aren’t you here??

The ground is hard, the grass is dead
And I’m all alone, nothing like
    That night with you.
    It’s winter now and you’re
    Just a memory.

I see a star start to fall through the sky
And I clamp my eyes shut quickly.
With you, I would have made a wish,
But now no dreams come true.
I imagine the star as the sky’s tear.

I miss the feeling of you holding me,
    Keeping me warm and safe.
I miss the love we once shared.
But it disappeared the moment you did.
Why aren’t you here with me??
