I waited for you along the shore
Looking out to sea
Seeking one such ship
To bring my sailor love back to me
The days seemed like years
The years seemed like an eternity
Yet oh, how it'd be worth it in the end
When you came back once again
The day you left to go
I stood upon that shore
Watching your ship sail out of sight
Wishing to see you already once more
Every day I waited
I hungered for news of your return
I waited and waited, but the ship I longed for came not in sight
To bring me that sailor for whom my heart burned
And one day, after years of waiting
I heard, finally, news of you
They said they'd seen you, happy as could be
With wife and children too
I ran down to the shore
I cast off the ring you gave me
I threw it to the sea
And begged for my demise
That day my love shattered my heart
He beguiled and betrayed me
And n'er again
Will I trust a man of the sea
