Tabitha looked around the boats, swallowing before she stepped into one. She wasn't too sure about this, especially since they all seemed rickety. Then again, it was magic, right? Breathing deeply, she sat down in an empty one, hoping not to knock herself into the water. Not that she couldn't swim, she just didn't want to get wet. After all, she was kind of new to the school. Well, everyone in the boats was new to the school, actually. At least she'd see her sisters here soon. She didn't think they wouldn't cheer for her to get into her house, after all. Whichever it happened to be. She at least hoped it was a good one.
After settling herself down, she looked around. It was dark, so not much to see yet. She started fidgeting. She really hoped it wouldn't be long before they got to the castle. She had been so nervous on the train, that she hadn't eaten a thing. Not that she wasn't nervous now. Now, she was hoping she wouldn't get an inadvertent dunking into the lake. ╔❤xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Location: The Lake Thinking: Oh, I hope the boat doesn't tip over. ℐirst 𝒴ear ❶ ℳuggleborn ❶ 𝒰nsorted Uneasy stomach and sweaty hands, the nervous child scrambled down to the shore. Perhaps it was the looming castle across the lake, or the ancient quality of the wooden boats, but he couldn't bring himself to fathom riding in one of them. Still, he focused and scanned for the emptiest transport. Most of the boats were filling up quickly, and Alex wasn't sure whether he could trust any of these kids. This was one case where nearly everyone knew more than he did, and he hated it. He needed to know about this world, to be familiar with it. Only then could he feel safe. A cheerful looking girl sat alone in one of the boats, and a small bit of relief crept over the boy. One-on-one was his best social strategy, and he was known even then to become focused on something else of greater importance. Careful of his footing, he stepped into the old thing, taking a seat as quick as he could. Lord knew that if he fell in, he would likely drown faster than anyone would notice. He'd tried to teach himself to swim on multiple occasions, but with no luck. It really was frustrating. He could teach himself to write Sonatas but a little bit of water was his downfall. Such a shame. Glancing up at his company, he began to feel less and less uneasy. Er... Hi, he offered, I'm Alexander Sherwood, call me Alex. He lifted a sweaty hand, reconsidered and wiped it against his robe before extending it again. He didn't want the girl to have to touch five slimy fingers. This was his chance to meet people like him, to find out about this mysterious world. He held a small bundle of bitterness toward these magic folk, for he didn't like to be kept in the dark, but he was glad to finally have an opportunity. His expression changed, the addition of the twinkle he got in his eyes when something new brought itself forward. Learning was, after all, his favorite thing. What could this girl have to teach him?

Catharine shrugged, she wasn't fond of where this was going. Still she couldn't help adding, "It wasn't the pieces or even the instrument, it was my instructor. The bloody woman kept this cane and my mum, well she was just pleased not to have to listen to the git's false french accent for an hour. I swear, you'd thought I was attending for etiquette classes."Suddenly she pitch her voice a bit higher and used her mock french accent (which she could handle quite nicely in her opinion), " 'Sit up straight!' whack! 'Don't slouch' whack 'feet in the proper position' crack. I'm so glad I got my letter because I knew it meant that I'd never had to suffer through her lessons again.""Actually, how did you both get your letters? I'm sure it was sent by owl, but where and when did you get it? I got mine in February, poor bird flew through the mess that hit London and right into our flat's window. At first it was funny, but then the poor thing never seemed to recovered fully." she told the story so with a ruefully smile on as she remembered tried to figure out how to nurse the poor owl and then it seem to finally realize that it's caretaker had no idea what she was doing and had tried to leave. Only to hit the dinning room skylight. Turning back to the boys, she glanced at the two and pushed, "So how about you lot?" [{your welcome and thank you for accepting}]

Tabitha watched as another first year joined her, a boy this time. She held onto the edges tightly, mostly to prevent her from falling in, and when the boat settled, she gave the other a smile. He seemed nervous, just like her, but she decided to swallow her own nervousness and say something first. However, he beat her to it, and gave his own name first.
Recalling how much of a fool she had felt when she had talked to Claire not-her-sister and Cat, she hesitated for a fraction of a second. She had probably freaked the other two out, and she didn't want a repeat. Deciding to test her luck a bit, she reached out and grasped the other's hand. "Hi. I'm Tabitha. Tabitha Hall. Nice to meet you Alex. Umm, you look about as nervous as I feel. Are you okay?"╔❤xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Location: The Lake Thinking: Oh, I hope the boat doesn't tip over. "My sympathies, then. I hope the same for you." Sensing the mood, Kas accepted the topic shift and tried to remember when his letter had arrived. "It was about the same time, I think. Nothing too special, it flew through the window as well, however I seemed to have chanced upon an extremely gluttonous bird. I was eating breakfast and went to get a letter opener and came back to an empty plate. I expected it to pinch some food but certainly not all of it," he frowned in annoyance at the memory. He had been enjoying that breakfast in particular. It was exciting getting his letter. From the things he had learned about Hogwarts, what he was most curious about was which house he would be placed in. He didn't care much for it, but he was genuinely interested in how Hogwarts would see him. Either way, people to him would be simply people unless they proved otherwise and earned his admiration and respect.
Venturing an absent question to both his companions, he asked, "What house do you think you'll get into? Which do you hope to be in?"

ℐirst 𝒴ear ❶ ℳuggleborn ❶ 𝒰nsorted He was glad of the girl's reply. Her handshake was firm, not like a lot of the dead-fish ones most girls gave. Her voice temporarily distracted him from the ricketiness of the boat he sat in, and since she too was nervous she was able to empathize. Alex smiled as he released her hand, clearing his throat. Nice to meet you too, Tabitha. You guessed right, I am nervous. I uh, I don't really like things that I don't know much about. It kind of freaks me out. A palm reached up to the back of his neck, toying with the scruffy hair that sat there. And uh, I don't really know about any of this. He used his other hand to gesture about him, indicating the magical world and everything about it. See I'm from the normal... erm, the muggle world and uh, yeah. Cringing, Alex tried to understand why there weren't any paddles or oars in the boat. If his social attitude was worrying, so was the absence of a way to get across the lake. His brow furrowed and he leaned over the boat's edge, checking for hooks on the outside of the boat, or a motor on the back. As if. These boats were as contemporary as Alex was buoyant. IE: Not at all. Oh dear, this was getting more and more ridiculous as time went on, and Alex felt the true meaning of "Up the creek without a paddle." Hopefully time would give him answers, and he hoped that time would be quick about it. Still searching, Alex remembered his company. He sat up straight and asked very matter-of-factly: How exactly are we supposed to propel the boat across the lake?

Alexandria followed the first years towards the lake. Time for the boat ride Ronna was talking about, she thought, scanning the students. Hopefully, she wouldn't be stuck in a boat with obnoxious jerks like Ronna had been last year. Though she wouldn't have the same problem since she was a pureblood and not a muggle born. After a moment, Alexandria chose a boat with two other students: one girl and one boy. "Hey, mind if I sit with you?" she asked as she approached Tabitha Hall and Alexander Sherwood. "I'm Alex, by the way." The eleven year old decided against sharing her full name since it was rather a mouthful. Her first name alone was four syllables and the rest of it was three. Dark eyes locked on the two first years, and she noticed how nervous they seemed. Oh, oh, oh, it's m a g i c you know. Never b e l i e v e it's not so. ʻHer bone structure screamsʼ
ʻTouch her! Touch her!ʼ
ʻAnd she's got the curse of curvesʼ She kept watch as all the kids started to file into boats. A young girl came up and asked to join her boat quickly getting in. She offered a comforting smile. "Of course you can ride with me dear, I wont let anything happen." Her attention was then drawn away at a young boy who was yelling about the boat and refusing to get in. She directed her speach at him as he was getting upset at the girl trying to help him."Well this is the only way for you to get to the castle for sorting so if you'd wish to attended you must get in one of the boats. You are welcome to ride in mine if you are worried about it. I can keep away any murderous creatures well enough." She added trying not to make a joke of the boys fear but keep it light hearted so his ego would not be bruised.
ʻI want someone provocative and talkativeʼ
ʻBut it's so hard when you're shallow as a showerʼ
ʻAnd from what I've heard with skin you'll winʼ

"Broken glass, shattered shards. As my sweet relents, my bitter comes forth. Prepare for the end." Claire was starting to feel her lose her grip on her outward, cold appearance, as she stared at the lake. She then shuddered some as she thought of crossing the lake in the boat only to fall in...maybe get eaten by the squid?
Killed by the merpeople her mother told her about?
When the keeper of the keys told her she could ride with her, Claire almost teared up in joy. She then remembered she was supposed to be keeping a composed appearance, which failed horribly as she was shaking in utter terror at the thought of crossing the lake.
Nodding some Claire made herself comfortable in the boat, albeit staying as far away from the edges as possible. Her eyes were as wide as dinner plates as she stared out at the vast lake.
Claire then shut her eyes as she kept repeating in her head 'This will all be over soon, I will be safe...' though it was terribly hard to keep in control of herself, she had too. My feelings? I'm scared you know? Precious thought of mine, "..." I'm a Unsorted. Did you know that I'm a future first year? My strings are being pulled. "..." Out of character.

Jason had always heard stories about Hogwarts from his father, but now that he was here he could only remember the scary ones. He thought of the giant squid that supposedly lived here in this very lake. And they were to cross it? Oh well, you only live once, right? he told himself. He took a confident step into one of the empty boats next to the three nervous-looking kids."Hello, I'm Jason." he said to them with a big confident smile. "You know, I've never heard of anyone falling in the water, or anything like that. I sure we'll all be fine."

That would be a lot of calamari. David listened quietly, more his habit as, Kas and Catharine mused the lake and its inhabits and then how to capture and possibly eat the giant squid. When Kas asked about houses David went a bit pale and thought for a moment: should he dodge the question again? "Beyond my father's mother who was in Ravenclaw and my father who did not attend Hogwarts," David said, "I believe every member of both sides of my family have been in Slytherin for generations. So, the odds would be I'd be in Slytherin. Personally, I am hoping for Ravenclaw."He sighed, it felt good to be honest, but then again though Kas knew how to play the game he wasn't the type to do so because he delighted in the game like Claire-who was bad at the game compared to someone like himself or Kas. Catharine was a more honest sort and he appreciated that so he felt comfortable enough to not entirely avoid subjects like he did on the train when dealing with Claire.

✖✖- - -David's answer was, to say the least, curiosity-inducing.
"Do you think that your heritage would influence your placement directly? Aside from the other factors of growing up in a family like so, do you think it would matter?" Kas leaned forward slightly, the topic interesting him. He liked to think, to ponder alternatives and everything else in between. It was somewhat of a dislikable quality in him, but despite his best efforts, it would not be squashed. He never meant to offend or intrude- - - okay, that was a lie, but he obviously wasn't going for anything of the sort in this situation- - - he was just genuinely, intensely curious. "Would being placed in Slytherin be a great disappointment to yourself? There is that notion that to be Slytherin meant to be dark, do you believe in that? Why would Ravenclaw be preferable to you?"
By this time, his eyes were shining with unfeigned interest, wondering what was it that made the other boy's opinion so. Kas gave a sudden start, eyes widening when he realized that he had let his mouth run off with his thoughts yet again. Too late to backtrack, he mentally sighed and prepared himself for the worst. The best he could do now was offer an apology and hope it would be accepted. Berating himself sharply, he looked up at the other male in the boat, sincerely regretting what he had done. "I'm sorry," he managed to get out, fighting yet another urge to just throw himself into the lake and rid the world of his offending existence. "I didn't mean to pry. Treat it as nothing, if you do not wish to answer," Kas offered, looking slightly abashed. "It was rude of me."

I think I like Kas. "Ah, I thought I was on trial for a moment," David said with a smirk. "My mother was a Slytherin and took Muggle Studies and married for love," David answered honestly, "it isn't that Slytherins are dark it is that they are particularly ambitious and will go through any means to get what they want. That isn't necessarily bad but it can be. Maybe someday I'll tell you lot the full story of exactly how my mother and my father end up marrying. But, growing up with the occasional family holidays at my grandparents with all those former Slytherins is more than enough to convince me it is a house I don't want.""I want a quiet time at Hogwarts to focus on my studies, getting a perfect on my OWLs and NEWTs, which is my goal, and becoming Head Boy won't be something I can do without at least a little bit of work," David said. "I'd rather no distractions. If I have to deal with the games of old family politics..."

✖✖- - -Kas valiantly fought back the urge to blush, managing to win only through sheer force of will.
That was a temporary thing. 'But it would so happen again. You know this.' Sometimes, even for someone like himself, he considered just bashing his head into a wall to see if he could get rid of that little voice always nagging inside his head.
He hated his conscience with a passion.
He really did.
Turning back to the conversation after successfully tossing the little voice into the very backseat of his thoughts- - - bound and gagged, of course- - - he nodded in understanding at David's explanation of his choice, curiosity satisfied for the moment- - - it was the qualities he had a problem with, Kas was surprised to know- - - before laughing slightly at the latter part of the conversation. Those, Kas was intimately acquainted with as well.
"I get what you mean. They can do that," said the redhead. "Family politics, I mean. It would be nice if once in a while you could just get away with gagging them all and tossing them into an old closet while you went out to frolic in the most inappropriate of manners." Not realizing his little detour into his fantasy, he sighed wistfully as he imagined what he imagined to be pure bliss. Realizing a certain aspect of the conversation, Kas jolted out of his thoughts to face the brunette, looking curiously at him. "You've got everything planned out for yourself," he stated, still studying him interestedly, though his tone remained neutral.
"Impressive."

The thought of just going to some random cheap cafe ordering a cup of coffee and reading a book like a normal person... now that would be nice. "Me, got everything planned out? You could say that," David said with a smile and then added as a sarcastic joke, "You could say planning everything out runs in the family."He sighed and said, "Yes, family politics are annoying. My father escaped it in his own way but created his own family politics to deal with. The problem is I am too serious to 'frolic' but it would be nice not to be judged for once, especially based on the decisions your parents, and even the decisions your grandparents made."
