It wasn’t surprising that she would have some worries about their future. He had them too. Of all the things his parents taught him, a lesson in having a loving marriage was never penciled into the schedule. Looking at his own family he wanted to believe that such a marriage was possible. At the very least he hoped that they could perhaps be friends. Though that was only a part of the problem. Aside from being married, he also worried about how living together would work. He’d never lived with anyone outside of his family. When he was in college he went to a local school and opted to stay home instead of living in the dorms. Benjamin had no idea what Evie would need when they moved in together. He wasn’t even sure what they would be moving in to.
Answering her question, he went on to tell her about his abysmal sports history. He hoped that she wasn’t too disappointed that he was by no means a star athlete. Though it wasn’t for a lack of trying. He just assumed that it wasn’t meant to be this particular life time, and if that was the case then he was fine with it. There were plenty of other things that he was good at. Turning the question back on Evie, he found himself curious if her own parents had forced her into any sports.
When she spoke, Benjamin listened as she recanted the various sports that she had played throughout the years. He found it amusing that she was just as uncoordinated as he was. He smiled as she continued to tell him a few more details before shaking her head, almost as if it would shoo away the memories. ”Well, at least our parents were nice enough to not invite more witnesses to those events.” He replied. While there were times he had felt annoyed that he had not been able to get to know Evie, he was glad that she missed his sport events. Somewhere, he was sure that she felt similarly and was glad that he had missed the recitals and the games.

As an adult he could understand why his parents pushed so hard for them to be more rounded. But as a child it only seemed like torture to be put through sport after sport after sport that he either didn't really like or was just not good at. Had he been more athletically inclined he probably could have gone on to bigger and better things. Like Evie, he was glad that she had never been to one of games. Commenting on their shared misfortune, he watched as she laughed and shook her head. Benjamin laughed a little as well. "Tell me about it, the only bright side about my brothers being there is that I got my payback when it was time to go to one of their games." he replied. From what Benjamin remembered he tried to pay the crowds as little attention as possible. It somehow made poor playing a little more bearable if he tuned out the other parents.

Indeed, the need for sports and impressing others was now long past him. Benjamin was glad he no longer had to pretend to be interested in yet another sport he would likely suck at. Similar enough, his own siblings were still actively engaged in their chosen sports. Though unlike him, they both seemed happy enough to participate. As he spoke again, he watched as Evie smiled at his words. He smiled back as he shook his head lightly. "Not so much anymore." he replied. "But when we were younger we were all pretty terrible. It took Samuel a long time to be able to catch up to the other boys on his swim team. Now he's the captain and looking at a scholarship. Whereas Oliver, he was a bit like me and tried out a few different sports before joining his high school wrestling team and finding out he was actually pretty good at it. He even went on to play for his college team." Benjamin didn't mind that his brothers were the more talented ones at sports. It was bound to happen that at least one of them might be better.
