Tristan snorted, but now both hands were combing down his wild hair. It didn't last long, whatever cowlick his drool had achieved would be stuck there until he can make it to the boys' lavatories. Oh well. He crossed his arms to lean the bulk of his weight against the desktop. Heavy lidded eyes flashed at Sybil and he shrugged at her inquiry, whispering with an inconclusive, ”I dunno.” It was hasty and spur of the moment, like much of Tristan's life. And while it was much tamer then what he's used to blurting out against authoritative figures, it was still weird. Not even Tristan was blind to that, but as for the why, he was grasping at straws. Was it instinct? Or just protective habit? ”Just did it, is all.” Tristan tried to ignore how ambiguous that sounded by feigning interest in Levi's bullet pointed anecdote. ”Don' mention it.” He said, waving it off with a swipe of his hand as his eyes grew distant. The review was off to a slow start, but as long as the focus hadn't drifted on them he continued to whisper. ”So how've you been? Still weird without your sister?” He recalled the bulk of their conversation at Sugarplum's, though wasn't proud to admit most of it was dulled by the memory of those blueberry pies baking in the oven. Even now, he could almost smell it.

Sybil blinked idly at his response, then shrugged. If he actually did know - although the vacant look in his eyes told her otherwise - what did it really matter that he wasn't telling her? She turned her attention to what was going on in class, although she really couldn't care less. She leaned forward, propping her head up with a hand, and was more than happy when Tristan started talking again. "I dunno. Not really, I suppose." She murmured. "I mean, next year my brother's going to be joining me here, so it won't be as weird. I'll have another sibling here. Although, it'll be a little weird. I'll actually have to take responsibility for him... Is it weird having your sister here?" Sybil glanced over to Tristan, awaiting a response. She knew that Lexine was overbearing upon Sybil starting at Hogwarts, but she wasn't sure if she'd want to be that way. Her sister was a whole different story compared to Sybil. Plus, she believed that her little brother knew how to take care of himself. Granted, Sybil knew she could too, the only issue with her was how little she spoke to people - Evan wasn't like that, he was probably the most outspoken Vance child, so what did Sybil have to worry about?

Grayson walked into the classroom, looked around to see that everything was ready, and picked up a piece of chalk. He wrote on the chalkboard, and when finished, turned to regard the class as a whole.
"Hello class. Last time, we went over the subjects you studied last year to refresh any knowledge you may have lost over the summer. Today, we are going to go ahead and study the witch burnings of the 1600's.
"Now, as you are very well aware, muggles nowadays don't know about the wizarding world, due to either ignoring magic when they see it or passing it off as merely fantasy for children. However, that was not always the case. The International Statute of Secrecy was only enacted relatively recently within the last several centuries, which of course hides magic from the rest of the world.
"However, wizards and muggles did coexist at some point. For the greater bit of history, they worked together. However, at some point muggles began to distrust wizards, and some even began to fear them. It culminated into the infamous witch burnings that basically ran like wildfire across the world.
"The witch burnings weren't specific in who they targeted. Mostly, they actually persecuted other muggles who they believed to be a witch. Unfortunately, that wasn't always the case. Many of the witches and wizards they grabbed were muggleborn, and they were unfortunate in that most of the time when they were captured, it was due to uncontrollable acts of random magic they had performed.
"Contrary to the name, burning wasn't the only way they got rid of witches. Stoning, throwing them off cliffs, and even drownings were also considered to be acceptable ways to get rid of witches. Most witches and wizards who were caught actually didn't die, as they were able to cast some form of magic to get them out of the situation. One witch in particular found it quite fun to get caught. Wendolyn the Weird actually was caught a grand total of forty-seven times, mostly in different guises, because she found that the tickling sensation of casting a fire-freezing charm was actually enjoyable."
He sat at the edge of his desk as he regarded the class with a bit of a grin. "As I'm sure you have questions, please feel free to ask them, or if you wish to discuss it, that's perfectly fine too."

Grayson lowered his book as students started to enter the class. He looked over them all, curious as to how they would take the class. On one hand, there were those that found the class to be quite boring, and on the other hand, there were those that found, like himself, that history was full of intrigue, if they looked through it properly. At least that was how he viewed it. More than likely, the majority would find this class boring and move on, but he hoped that there were a few that he'd be able spark a bit of interest in the subject.
He stood, placing the book he'd been reading down. "Hello class, and welcome back to History of Magic. As you all have had an entire summer to empty your heads of all that you may have learned over the last year, as well as give me a good chance to refresh your knowledge, today we will review what you have learned in the subject over the last year, before we go on to this year's topics. Please answer one at a time, and only cover one topic. That way, we can hopefully get everyone's participation in the class."

Liam nodded as he passed Professor Powell, a kind smile lingering on his lips until he settled into a set in the far front corner. Retrieving his History of Magic notebook, he flipped through the pages as they were instructed to mention a previously studied topic. Stopping on a page that was riddled in neat notes with a small tear on the top, he slipped a hand into the air and waited to be called on.
"Afternoon, Professor. Last year we began by covering the Ollivander family, which originated in England around 382 BC. The family began a shop in hopes of improving the overall quality of local wands, and the art of wandmaking and the knowledge gained from it was passed down from generation to generation. Garrick Ollivander was the most recent owner of the wandshop; he was a craftsman reknowned for the ability to remember every wand he ever sold in his shop." Liam wasn't sure whether the professor wanted a recap of each topic, so he provided a brief one, just in case. As he saw it, the other students could certainly benefit from the refresher.

The classroom was relatively empty when Liam arrived, and he chose a seat near the door. The chair was cold; it had clearly been uninhabited during the last lesson held here, which was likely a second year class. Removing his notebook, he waited patiently for Professor Powell to begin.
The idea of muggles overpowering witches and even desiring to burn them alive was unsettling. As he scribbled down his notes, the Ravenclaw couldn't shake the feeling of discomfort. As soon as the lecture came to a close, he slipped a solid hand into the air and waited patiently to be called on.
"Excuse me, Professor, but would you happen to know how we transitioned from muggles burning witches at the stake to either not believing in them or paying them any attention? It seems like quite the contrast... Did muggles back then believe they had successfully extinguished all witches and wizards, or was it a fairly slow transition to today's trend of disbelief and blindness to our world?"

Di enjoyed History of Magic as much as ever, even if they were just doing review. From her seat in the front, she raised her hand. "We learned about the Ollivander family and how they essentially began wandmaking in Britain," she spoke up. She would have like to take Wandlore Studies this year, but she'd tried to keep her electives to what she could successfully manage, and nine not counting Advanced Flying was probably... more than enough. I'm building with the stars in mind! I'm building an empire- That's one day gonna scrape the sky! I'm building an empire- That's led by my heart to know my home... I'm building an empire- And now I'm never gonna look back.
