The portrait guarding the entrance to the Hufflepuff common room creaked open once again, and inside hopped a very petite creature, though Grumby was average sized for a house elf. His ears hung considerable low today, and his collection of hats towered high as he moved swiftly along the wall, laden with a fancy feather duster. His hands worked like magic as he swept the dust from the tops of picture frames, taking extra time to clear the soot from the hearth of the fireplace. After lingering longer than necessary in hopes of soaking in some of the soothing heat, his oversized feet carried him around the room, taking his job as serious as ever.
After cleaning all four walls, he moved to the small row of tables set up on the far side of the common room, pausing politely when he came to a group of students situated around the very last one. "Good morning. Grumby is surprised to see so many students up at such an early hour." Spotting a piece of parchment resting before one of the humans, the bubbly house elf circled the table, clambering up onto the chair next to him and peering at it with interest, his eyes eventually meeting with the boy's. "Grumby is interested to see what you us working on, Sir." With a glowing facade, Grumby's eyes bounced back and forth between student and paper, not bothering to wonder if he was perhaps intruding on anything of import.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ¦¦ His conversation with Lennox had become more and more engaging to the point the usually observant boy had completely missed the entrance of the older female student. Prefect, no doubt, judging by the shinning badge pinned to her robes which had a gleam to it even under a layer of dust. So when she sat down (her greeting had even fallen deaf on his ears) he jumped in mild surprise. "Oh, Sorry! Sorry!" he immediately apologized for his lack of awareness. He recognized her strong, attractive face vaguely but he could not find a name in his misted memories. "No, none at all. And, erm, good morning. Were you out practicing?" He noted the impressive broom in her possession as well as the look of physical exhaustion about her. It did nothing to dent her looks however, he noted with heat rising to his face.
Suddenly, another sound punctured the air from a bit lower than the table at which they were all sitting. Glancing down for the source, Allen was surprised to see an over-hatted house elf. He blinked in curious surprise and then offered a smile. "Hello," His father's family never saw need for a house elf, but Allen knew they were noble enough to be entitled to one. They were simply very modest. Something Allen had always admired to the point of worship and found intense pride in being included in a family that was such.

Lennox turned his way to meet his Quidditch captain. Training was tiring but always a joy. He couldn't see how she could have the energy to be doing so such early in the morning. "Good morning captain. Having practice without us again I see," He greeted with a small nod, a small glint to his silvery eyes.. The boy shook his head furiously as he offered the seat the she was presumptiously taking. "Not at all!" Lennox replied carelessly taking out of his mind that Allen was there with them. He looked over the first year and gave a small smile, asking if it was alright in his features despite having invited Bailey with them anyway.
Resuming the conversation they were having, "No, I suppose not. Although it does strike my curious to know how owls are able to find for whom the letter is for..." His face lit up at the minimal details Allen had provided. He had not met any other professional Herbologist besides the professor. It would have been lovely to know someone pursuing that career. It brought him to ease that he had at least something in common with the boy. Herbology. "You as well? I find it quite fascinating although not many people tend to appreciate what these plants can do." He turned abruptly to Bailey whom seemed worn out from the early practice.
Having joined in mid-conversation, Lennox didn't want Bailey to feel out of the loop. But from Allen's words, she could have guessed from the context. He looked at her lovely face which he grew fond of with every practice, asking her to join in with his eyes. With the ravid convesration they were so having, it came to Lennox's surprise when a house helf suddenly sat next to him. He'd never seen a house elf before. Out of the pictures per se. There was a rather warm glow that he percieved, whether it was from his features or the one to many hats that adorned his head. He was so immersed at the elf that when he looked down at the parchment, it looked as if someone else had written it in another language. "Oh, this? It's for Transfiguration. Been working on the beetles buttons spell." Lennox explained to the curious creature.

• MAGIC IS MY STRENGTH • POWER IS MY WEAKNESS •Bailey smiled at the first year's delayed reaction to her presence, nodding her head in response to both his question, and Lennox's comment. "Practice makes perfect. And in this case, Prefect." She gestured to the freshly shined badge that adorned her school robes. Despite her pride, Bailey wasn't one to brag about her achievements, but she never passed up a good opportunity for a laugh.
Before she was able to formally introduce herself to the silver-haired boy, she was lightly frightened by the movement of a chair on Lenny's other side. After a moment, she pieced together the invisible movement with the house elf that was climbing on top of it. She smiled warmly when she recognized Grumby, the same elf that had bake cupcakes for Professor Avery's Charms classes many times throughout her stay at Hogwarts. "Morning, Grumby! Long time, no see!" Bailey watched with pleasure as the elf kindly ignored her, displaying instead a strong curiosity towards Lennox's parchment. House elves always seemed to have the shortest of attention spans, but Grumby might possibly be the leader of the pack.

When Lennox explained the purpose of the parchment, Grumby confronted him with a mild look of shock. "Wow...such strong magic for such a young wizard. Grumby impressed..." The house elf spoke slowly as he leaned over the table and scanned over what appeared to be a random jumble of letters. He had been getting better on his writing skills, thanks to Ms. Avery, but somehow he still seemed unable to read very well.
As his eyes parted ways with the confusing assignment, Grumby stood up straight on top of his chair, his head only surpassing the height of the students thanks to the several hats he wore on his head. Bowing respectively, he made eye contact with each of the three humans at the table before hopping back down with ease. "Grumby must finish his work now. He heard the Slytherin boys' dormitory could use some extra attention." The last half of his sentence was more to himself than to the students, as he had already made his way halfway across the common room. He provided a small wave when he reached the exit, tucking his duster in the waistband of his trousers before bounding back through the portrait hole.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ¦¦ Allen smiled, glad to see their similarity on a subject. Even when the question of how owl's functioned with their mail made Allen smile a bit more. He had always wondered and presented the questions to anyone he thought might know the answer. Knowing he was not the only one who pondered it pleased him. Allen had just opened his mouth to continue on the thought of the owls, but Lennox had presented a shift in topic to their conversation. With a bit of a disappointed mouth-close, he nodded and then returned to replying to the boy. "Yeah, I have noticed that. Not too much interest." It had been one of the first major disappointments offered by the school thus far for the first year; his Herbology class' lack of interest for the lessons. Their enthusiasm had really crushed his expectations. He had hoped there would be more people basking in his own fascination.
Turning as he noticed the elf was taking his leave, Allen offered a bow of parting and a twinkle in his dark eyes. Watching the small, stout creature make its way through the portrait hole until it and its many hats had disappeared, then he turned back to his present company. ¦¦

• MAGIC IS MY STRENGTH • POWER IS MY WEAKNESS •Bailey's good hand was raised with a wave of goodbye to their small, green friend as he made to leave the common room. Turning back to the other students, she waited quietly, choosing not to join in their conversation, being that she herself lacked much interest in the world of herbology. She was, however, thankful for their many uses in potion brewing, and other studies of magic, as well, but that still didn't prompt her to continue her studies in the subject, now that she had been given the choice.
When a gap in their conversation presented itself, Bailey took advantage of the opportunity to introduce herself to the first year boy. "Pardon my lack of manners. I'm Bailey Oliver, sixth year. You're in your first, I believe? Most exciting of them all, if you ask me. There's no feeling like learning something for the first time." The brunette held out a friendly hand as she spoke, aiming for a casual attempt at a formal greeting.

xxxxxxxxxx █████████████████ Muggle Born Hufflepuff ████████████The common-room was dark except for the dying embers of the fire. Jane was still shaking the dream penetrating her mind. She hoped she hadn't woken anyone up, her scream hadn't exactly been quiet but she couldn't help it. The dreams just kept getting worse everytime she had them. She walked out of the girls dormitory looking exhausted, she had barely slept for a week, the nightmares awakening her every night. She hugged her black and yellow quilt around her to try and suppress the shaking but it didn't help much. She sat on the couch in front of the dying fire, she felt like she was going to cry, she just wanted someone to hold her and tell her everything was going to be alright, even if it wasn't. She pulled her legs to her chest her fleece pants rubbing her face slightly, a single tear ran down her face. Made by Purpleinatorooc; new format is being madeJane Abigail DoyleHer

Devin walked into the common room of Hufflepuff. He always thought Hufflepuff had a weird name. It just sounds completely weird to him, but he did recall his father teaching him about why it was called Hufflepuff. So, that was completely not worthy of being thought off. He looked around a little bit. This is the first time he has ever been in a common room. It was pretty sweet to him too. Devin walked around the room looking at various paintings, and the ornate decorations upon the wall. It really reminded him of home. He didn't come from a rich family. Well, when one of your brothers is a professional Quidditch Player, you get a lot of perks. A lot of things are just handed to him nowadays. Devin actually didn't like stuff getting handed to him. He always felt if he didn't work for something, he didn't deserve it. He sat down on the couch in the common room, and started to read a book. It really was a rather long book for people his age, but he really didn't care. He maybe a first year, but he is smarter than a lot of people. Especially his brother Arnold.

Bridgett WarrenBridgett dangled a piece of string in front of Jonathon who was clearly uninterested. She had hidden herself under a table to try and read the books she was borrowing for class but the words were giving her a headache. So now, she was playing the not studying game and was attempting to engage her cat in a game. Said cat was more interested in watching others then paying attention to his little owner and sauntered from under the table to cause chaos.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ¦¦ Allen had crept down the spiraling stairs from his dormitory with the fleshy sounding steps of his bare feet. He was robed in his pale night gown, white hair ruffled and eyes still stifled with sleep. He had awoken at a rather early time in the morning, which was not uncommon for the boy, and had realized he had forgotten his textbook down in the Common Room. His slipping habits had all but reversed through the duration of the summer - he read the volumous texts by night and in the presence of bright candle or wand light, and slept through the day. Traveled whenever the next train came. But regardless of the summer' s sleep patterns, the boy had always been both a light sleeper as well as one that did not need too many hours to keep himself energized. In his sleepiness, he was not sure whether the sound of someone descending the steps of either dormitory, a pet or something else head woken him, or a dream or just his body deciding it was time to rise. He was sure, though, that he could not care less. Once he had regained enough mental mobility to realize he was awake, he had decided to work on some of his classes' assigned work. This lead to the realization that his book was left and alone in the common room on the table he had been working at previously.
Now in the room, he looked around as he rubbed one eyes and saw his book. Something else he saw what that the fire was flickering. He knew, from repeatedly waking at this hour and wandering down, that the fire was normally put out at such hours. Looking closer, he realized a shaded silhouette sat on one of the armchairs near the calling flame. "Jane?" he asked quietly, voice tentative as he lightly approached. The girl was rolled up in her blankets and seemed to be in some considerable distress. Something was on her mind to be sure. ¦¦

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ¦¦ His assumptions that something was wrong and battling inside the girl would reassured ten fold by the simple sound of her weak echoes greeting. The blood-shot eyes, the shallow expression and the over all burdened gestures were striking however and instantly it felt like a fire had been extinguished inside him. He couldn't stand to see anyone this way, especially not the Hufflepuff girl form the bridge. He sat down without a word or asked permission. He sat on the edge of the cushion, leaning at an angle so he could clearly see her with his concerned eyes. Wanting desperately to hold her and tell her whatever was wrong he would make right. But he restrained the urge - taking the force of the emotion out by gripping the cushion to the point of breaking. "Jane, what's wrong? Did someone do this to you?" he knew she was Muggle born and he also knew that there were individuals inside the castle walls that would not hesitate to exploit that fact. Use it against her and turn into into a corrupted thing, hurt her with her own heritage. Allen would not tolerate it. ¦¦

She didn't know if she should tell him about the nightmares, it just sounded stupid, practically bawling because of nightmares but there was just something. These weren't normal nightmares, these were something more, like they were really happening, or had anyway. Finally she spoke though her voice was still soft and raw.
