Loretta Blake Divination ProfessorRavenclaw
Loretta sighed and climbed upon Serallius' back, wrapping her arms around his core. "Are you goin' to go fast again?.." she asked quietly. She wanted to prepare herself. If he was going to, she would do as she had before and rest against his back and close her eyes, hiding from the wind and also taking small comfort from the swiftness of the movement. She much preferred walking to most quick travel...

You think me weak? Weak is for children. The thundering of Refera's hooves stopped just in time to hear the end of the conversation. The young mare arrived at the scene as the handsome young stallion hoisted the witch onto his back. Refera noticed Ammar, the leader of the Herd, and gave him a small bow. "Greetings Ammar. Sorry I am late, but I am here now. May I be of assistance?" Ever eager to prove herself and her lack of weakness, Refera scolded herself for her lack of promptness to the commotion. She had been training with her bow nearby when the group had brought the witch to the Forest, and had hurriedly retrieved her arrows before racing to the other centaurs. Imara stood by silently for once. She could tell that Ammar was getting rather aggravated with this witch. Personally, she wished that the two-legger would leave already so she could get some peace and quiet. Just then, the sound of hoof-beats filled her sensitive ears. She turned and saw one of the other females enter the camp. "Hello, Refera." she greeted with a slight nod. The older centaur held her respect. Seeing that the excitement had died down, Imara circled around and nestled down onto the soft grass. "Well, quite the eventful night this was." she said, more to herself than anyone. A yawn escaped her, but she tried her best to hide it. A warrior couldn't sleep in the time of tension.

→ centaur | forbidden forest at hogwarts | scotland → ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶ ✶
There were certain magical plants that worked best when gathered at night, and that was precisely what Hadar had been doing until two sharp cries had cut through the whisper of the Forest. Hadar froze, his muscles tensing as his senses became fully alert, but he did not take the initiative to investigate the source of the noise: no, that decision was up to Ammar, who was no doubt sleeping nearby with the rest of the herd.
He continued with his work even as Ammar, Serallius, and Imara - all of them mere foals in comparison to Hadar - fanned out to scan the vicinity. Some part of him pressed him to join in, but just as easily, another part of his mind argued that the young centaurs were all perfectly capable of defending themselves. And besides, the plants did need to be plucked and dried before the hour was up.
Only when human-scent reached his nose did he straighten up fully, wondering what a human was doing so deep into the Forest - or how she'd reached the centaurs' resting place. His instinctive response was disgust, and he scowled as he returned to the outskirts of the clearing in which the rest of the herd was still sleeping, and Ammar, Serallius, and Imara were clustered around a human adult female. Were the foals really planning to repeat Firenze's mistake? Cooperating with the humans to ensure mutual peace was one thing; divulging secrets, even basic ones, was another.
But Hadar could not disagree with Ammar without bringing about unwanted conflict, even if he was over eighty years Ammar's senior. He waited until Serallius had left with the human before stepping into the open, his white hair coat absolutely brilliant under the moonlight. A respectful bow to Ammar. A nod of acknowledgement to the young Imara. And...ah, the distinctive thunder that was Refera arriving upon the scene.
"Do have some respect for the rest of the herd, Refera," Hadar said with a humorous glint in his eyes. "You would not want to wake any of the foals."

You think me weak? Weak is for children. Glad for the younger centaur's greeting, Refera smiled at Imara. The two female's liked and respected each other, as they had both lashed out against the stereotype of being female. About to reply, the bay centaur was cut short by Hadar, an elder member of the Herd. Though not the leader, he was still greatly respected, and the overanxious female was often reproved by him. Today was no exception as he warned about her lack of silence, for fear of waking the foals. Though stern, Hadar was not cruel, and was well liked by most, including Refera. Lowering her voice to a whisper, she leaned in closer to the stallion. "I am very sorry, Hadar. I will be sure to be quieter. Do you know what all the commotion is about?" ☾ Serallius ☽ A roaming centaur... ┏━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━┓
"Of course I am,"Serallius replied to the witch. Refera barely came into sight when he was about to leave. Even at night, the mare trained to become stronger and swifter. It was about time to rest, the late night sky offered a nice comfort for a perfect sleep. With that in mind, Ser hopped off into the bushes nearby, accelerating into the shadows of the forest.
He ran and ran, jumping over obstacles like fallen trees and rocks, all the way back to Hogwarts. As the castle neared the two, Serallius slowly slowed down, from a dash to a gallop, then finally to a gentle walk. "This should be close enough," he said, stopping a couple hundred meters from the border of the forest. Once again, he lowered himself to let the witch hop off, since Ammar wasn't here to yank her off.

((After Refera, Hadar, and Serallius post that they have gone to bed, I will time skip :3 no real rush; we're not going anywhere, really)) ”Once an heir, now a leader. I only hope I can do as well as my father wanted...”Ammar sighed, rubbing his cheek in thought. What long night. He turned his head when two more centaurs arrived at the scene. They were a tad late, but not at all oblivious, he was sure. He might get heckled for his 'reckless' decision and his 'poor' leadership. Ammar tensed his jaw and glanced over his shoulder at the two new arrivals, "It is late... I think we could all do with some rest,"
He gently trod over to where his sleeping area was, with its furs and weapons. It was clearly marked as his with the pelts of wolves, bears, and other creatures in which Ammar, himself had hunted. He stretched his front legs, and then his back ones before lying down on the soft furs. What a long night, he repeated in his head. And tomorrow would be a long day. He needed to find out what had happened in the dark of the night. If there was a body left to find, or blood trails leading to the killer... anything... he needed to make sure his people were safe.
The night was chilly and rain clouds loomed in the west. They would need to check the forest early tomorrow morning, before the rain washed away the scent and the proof. Ammar folded his arms as he laid himself down on the ground. Bright and early, he kept telling himself, hoping that he could forced himself awake in a few hours before the storm rolled in.

You think me weak? Weak is for children. Stretching her sore muscles, Refera yawned, then settled down in her sleeping area. She unstrapped herself of her various items, including her bow, quiver, medicine pouch, rope, lyre, and all the other items she carried with her. That completed, she lay down, falling unconscious almost before she closed her eyes. When you're facing my arrow, Call me weak again. Age: 23 | Relationship Status: Single | Injuries/Illnesses: None

Loretta Blake Divination ProfessorRavenclaw Riding back was not as scary as riding to the resting place had been. She sighed as Serallius lowered himself so that she could carefully step off. She smiled up at him. She could see the Castle through the last bit of trees. "Thank you, Serallius. This means a lot to me. I am sorry to have gotten you in trouble... it wasnae meant." She brushed her hand along his side, smoothing down the black hairs, then patting it gently in a fair-well. "I will see you soon, Serallius." With that, she walked off, waving as she walked away and headed back toward the castle.

"Don't worry about it," was all Serallius managed to say. The stallion watched as Loretta walked off towards the castle, ensuring her safety. The last bit of walk wasn't too dangerous, as she would be blatantly in sight.
Ser turned around and galloped his way back to the herd's resting place, already exhausted, having ran so much in his sleep deprived state. He was sure that tomorrow, an even more extensive search would be carried to find clues about this perpetrator that cause two shrill screams to ripple through the quiet night. Would he even fall asleep after this, Ser had no idea.
At the resting site, he quietly walked over to where he was initially sleeping and flopped down on the ground. He calmed himself, his breathing and heart rate slowed as he fell into a state of rest, a pause in this potential disaster quickly unfolding.

Hadar succinctly filled Refera in before she retired to bed. He himself was starting to feel the need for sleep press down on him now, but there was still one task that needed to be finished. Limping over to the area he'd claimed for his own, he spread the plants he had gathered to dry on a mat of dessicated reeds, alongside the colorful bunches he had picked earlier on in the day. He was careful to weigh each cluster down as he went: it wouldn't do for all his hard work for the herd to go to waste.
Then Hadar lowered himself slowly on his nest of pelts, grimacing as pain shot through his injured leg, and settled into his customary resting position. One last check to see that his bow and his medicine pouch were within easy reach, and finally he joined the rest of the herd in slumber.

((Time skip!)) ”Once an heir, now a leader. I only hope I can do as well as my father wanted...”He shook himself awake, just at the break of dawn. He sighed and yawned, trying to be as quiet as possible so he did not wake the herd. This was his morning ritual. He stood from his sleeping spot, allowing the furs to fall from his form, and he stretched his limbs which had been restless the whole night. A centaur was built to be in constant motion, and his limbs reminded him of that. He stretched his arms over his head and slowly made his way to the edge of the clearing.
He stepped over a log and walked haphazardly in a particular direction. He yawned again, still half-asleep. Not paying attention, he nearly tripped on a rock, "Ah!" he whispered, before regaining his balance by grabbing hold of a tree. That certainly woke him up. Ammar shook the sleep off him as he slowly trotted over to a riverbank.
It was one of many rivers that ran through the forest, but Ammar came to this one every morning. It was where he learned to fight for the first time. This place held memories for him and it was peaceful. He kept his ears alert as he stepped into the running water. First, he allowed his hooves to get wet, then he allowed himself to go further, to immerse his torso in water. The water was freezing, but it did what it was meant to do: wake him up. He dove his head under and rubbed his face. He shook his hair, rubbing his scalp, and rubbed every inch of his body that needed to be cleansed.
Resurfacing for air, he shook the water from his hair and face. He paused to listen for noise. When there was none, he allowed himself to go into thought. Today, they had to move the sleeping grounds and they needed to find the creature who had lurked earlier. Or simply place a name to the unknown. If only Ammar could figure out with what they were dealing with... then he could rest easy.

When burning bridges won't come down, like symphonies without a soundLlamrei, Centaur, 17 year old Mare
Mood: Tired Thoughts: It's a beautiful dawn... With: No one Location: Forbidden Forest Llamrei was tired, but she was running. She did every morning at dawn, to stretch her legs and to think. When she was running, she was not odd, fearful, or weak. She was powerful, she was wild, and she was independent. She watched the sky slowly become brighter as she raced through the forest, leaping over small streams, and downed trees. The only sounds were the breeze rustling the leaves, her pounding hooves, and the birds beginning to chirp. The forest was stirring, and a new day was beginning. Who knew what it might bring. "The woods are lovely, dark, and deep. But I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep."
I spend these nights counting stars, and wonder if there's hope for me out there

The cold air and pale sunlight awoke Hadar from his deep sleep. As usual, his injured leg throbbed painfully as he slowly rose: now more than ever, it served as a constant reminder that he was not as young, as agile, as he had once been. The price one had to pay for experience, Hadar mused. Many of the centaurs in the herd did not even know of a time when there had been no peace here in the Forest, and here Hadar had served in a war.
He bundled up his furs, his mats and bunches of dried sage and mallowsweet, his bow and arrows, his medicine pouch. Then, careful not to wake the rest of the herd, he trotted towards the edge of the clearing and stretched. A light run to ease the early morning stiffness of his muscles, he decided, followed by a wash in a stream. He wasn't overly concerned about the herd possibly moving on while he was gone: a centaur as experienced as he was could easily follow the telltale signs of a herd on the move.
Hadar picked up speed as he moved further and further away from the clearing, though he would never regain the swiftness he'd possessed prior to wounding his leg. Still, over the years, he'd learned to compensate for the injury, and now he raced among the trees, appearing to be no more than a silvery white blur.
