spaceDixie Lynn would admit, this was not exactly her best idea. Not a terrible one, she'd maintain, because she was stubborn as a mule like that. But even she had to admit, she was a little lost, and it was friggin' cold. She should've waited until the spring thaw to do this, she thought, a little sullen. But, like, that was months away, and she had gotten impatient. Soon as she'd had the idea, she'd gone at it. Well, not soon as. She'd waited for a clear night, full moon shining and providing plenty of light through the forest trees.
spaceHonestly, the cold was not as pressing as the whole 'kinda lost' bit. Well, really the cold was only pressing because she was lost. The longer she was lost, the more cold she'd get. She was pretty dang sure she was headed the right way, but she'd been walking for what felt like ages, so she couldn't be sure. She'd considered sticking closer to the treeline, but what if she'd been spotted before she made it to the castle? That wouldn't do at all. Too bad now she was relying on... well, basically her supposed knowledge of navigating by the stars to find her way, which wasn't great, since she only kinda knew how to do it from talkin' to her daddy. He'd taught her, but she had to admit she hadn't... exactly... paid perfect attention. She kinda knew what she was doing! Kinda! Maybe... Ugh. If they'd just changed their stupid rule so she could go to school with Bobby Ray, she wouldn't be in this stupid mess, dangit.

Rosalia was hopping through the trees, a small woven pouch on her hip. Today she was going to meet up with her mermaid friend. They had a small hobby of collecting various items from their realm of nature, then swapping it for things of the other. It was fascinating! It was certainly something exciting to the nymph, who had been missing her nieces since they all joined school. Even little Juni had to go to classes, and Jason was ever strict on not letting them in without an adult (and really, Ro was pretty sure Jason didn't consider her a mature adult). Either way, she had gifts to share! Hopping to a low tree branch beside the forest stream, Rosalia sang a happy, chirping song to hopefully lure her friend out from the water.

Asra had first followed this stream into the Forbidden Forest a few years ago, and nearly stranded himself. But it was quite worthwhile: in the end he had come away with a new friend. And now he meandered the stream easily, following the channels deep enough for merfolk and then under, until he was circling the water beneath a deceptively deep puddle.
Faintly, above the water, he heard a chirping tune and answered with a cheerful tune of his own. With a flick of his tail, he surfaced, and cut off before air touched him-- there was no need for screeching today. He drifted towards the shore, reaching into his bag for the first of the curiosities:
The first was a simple collection of underwater reeds and plants, wrapped into a bundle. The merpeople used it to mark stones and surfaces, drawing temporary notes and directions.
Thesecond was a completed project: he had been collecting twigs that students dropped along the banks after flying on their sticks, and finally he had collected enough to wrap with a cord of woven reed to form an imitation flying stick.
And the third was a little rescue: the flowers of a puffapod that had drifted from the greenhouses, most likely. He had found the seeds exploded into flowers, upon contact, and now had a few handfuls. He had also discovered they were not suited for underwater decoration: but perhaps his nymph friend would find them more useful--and be able to revitalize the poor drowning things.

Rosalia chirped happily when she spotted her mermaid friend. Climbing gracefully down from her perch in the tree, the nymph went to investigate what she'd been gifted. Some plants she'd never seen, perhaps from the murky depths of the lake? She wondered vaguely if she could plant them in the forest, but figured they were used to an underwater life, so probably not. Maybe a question to pester Jason with...?
The second gift looked like a tiny broomstick. Laurel flew one of those! Rosalia grinned, pointing at it, then making a swooshing, flying motion with her hand. Neither knew the other's language, so they had to make do with signs and such. The third gift was another she recognized. They were puffapod flowers! They were half-dead and still very wet, but the redheaded nymph quickly planted them by the shore, singing one of the nymph songs she knew to try and save them.
Once they were at least a little less dead, Rosalia reached into her own pouch, offering over a pinecone (with a pinecone seedling attached!) she'd found that morning. Maybe the mermaid would like it? The second thing she offered were some seeds for water plants Aspen had given her. Maybe they'd grow underwater... or maybe they were for shallows.... Well, Ro would find out soon enough. She chirped happily at the mermaid, wondering what he was doing next.

Seb had been wandering outside much of the day. After all, what else was there to do on a day with no classes? Maybe soon he’d go in to see his friends once more. Declan would probably be most concerned about him. “Why aren’t your ears covered? Where’s your umbrella? You forgot to study!” or... something like that.
Seb chuckled softly to himself, pausing to look out over the lake. When had he gotten here? Apparently his feet traveled on their own. Green eyes glanced down at his feet, seeing his ragged shoes. He wore them a lot, but they were starting to get tight on his toes. Oh well, summer was coming up and he could ask about a new pair then. He sighed out loud, then returned to his wandering. Maybe his feet would take him somewhere interesting....
From there, his thoughts turned to his friends. He'd made lots of them, all with their own lives... but it seemed lots of them had had their own issues. Deccy with her mean parents, Ella with her terrible birth family (except maybe that tall guy? Weren't they related??), Adi and his injuries.... but also a lot of them seemed to have pretty good lives, himself included. Sure, he only had Mama, but she was probably the best mama in the whole entire world. Maybe he'd make a mirror call to her when he got back to his room... if he remembered. His brain was pretty good about forgetting stuff!
After a long while, the teen realized he was in the shelter of lots of trees. Oh shoot. How’d he end up in the forest? All he’d been doing was thinking... oh. He noticed it was getting dark and checked his watch. Oh dang, it was the middle of dinner! No wonder his tummy was upset... Green eyes looked around before realizing he had no idea how he’d gotten here. Where was the school?? With a deep breath to try and calm himself, Seb started to walk the direction he figured he must’ve come from.
He wandered through the dark for a bit as rain started to fall. Even the light of the full moon overhead was getting dark. As he turned his head skyward, Seb’s foot tangled under a lifted tree root. ”WAAAAGH!!” he cried out as he pitched headlong and down a steep hill. He tried to stop himself, but after a painful tumble, the teen landed face-down in a huge mud puddle. A few long seconds (that felt rather like hours) passed before he was able to lift his face and gasp for air.
He managed to find probably the only clean part on his sleeve and wiped as much mud off his face as he could. Looking out, he realized his vision was scattered in several segments, all different sizes. ”These were my only pair...” he said with a soft whimper. Trying to push himself up brought about a tremendous surge of pain. With a cry, he tried to shift his weight to see just what he’d done. Through fractured vision, Seb noticed his pants were ripped up and he was bleeding. Oh dear. Using shaky (and muddy) hands, he worked to investigate. It wasn’t until he got to his right knee that he drew in a sharp hiss of breath. It was really, really swollen. And he was pretty sure his kneecap was missing... or just hidden under the hot, painful flesh there. Well... shoot. Was his only hope to wait there and pray someone found him soon?
The rain came in heavier, and while Seb was thankful for his face getting cleaned, he was cold. Somewhere nearby, he heard a loud howling sound. ”Wh... where?” he said, voice catching in his throat. He’d always been cursed with bad luck, but this was something else entirely. He looked around as best he could, trying to find any source of the sounds. Wherever it was coming from was way too close for Seb's comfort. He hissed softly as he tried to sit up, the pain firing through him. With his glasses broken, he could barely make out the ledge he'd fallen from, but wherever it was, he didn't think he'd be able to climb it. With a small sniffle, the teen questioned a "Help me! .... Please?"

Reggie was in such a hurry he hardly had time to get ready. He had some coffee that got chased down by his potion. Couldn't forget that. Been a routine since he was seven. He was too rushed to tell it was a different terrible flavor. He had a busy day which was constrained by the fact it was a full moon. So busy with feeling like he got hit by a truck. he made it through the day but he was to the wire on time. He would make it to the woods but not with the rest of the pack. He had forewarned them so nothing would be too amiss. He found a good spot as any and prepared. He had it down to a second nature routine and knew the forest well. He had a bag for his clothes as it was starting to rain.
While he was prepared for the usual pain changing brought he was not ready for how bad this time suddenly was. The intensity knocked him to the forest floor. The hell? It's never been this bad before! Something had to be wrong! He was sure he hadn't missed a day. He usually was anxious till he had the potion for fear of missing a dose. He had drilled it into his brain before he was even ten to religiously take the potion. He had always been deeply terrified about what would happen. Something had to be wrong with the potion itself! The pain and foggy wolf brain made it increasingly difficult to figure out what happened. That was now a tomorrow Reggie problem.
The reddish brown wolf wasn't too happy it was wet, but rain did bring puddles. Even feral the wolf was still Reggie. It would splash in one puddle before seeking out another. It was hungry though and when heading to the sizable puddle it had spotted a certain scent hit the wolf's nose. Human! Dinner! Puddles were no longer interesting as the wolf started tracking this scent. Rain made it hard but the wolf was determined. The burger earlier wasn't enough and was cooked so it was lame. Soon the prey was within sight; the rain couldn't hide the smell of fear. Even if it did, the boy was loudly making noise and was clearly hurt. He looked for a good moment to pounce. The boy might still be able to run.

Seb heard something nearby, but with his fractured vision, he couldn't make out the shapes very well. All around him were howls, alight from various distances. He thought somewhere in there was a cry of his name, but that didn't make sense... did it? He hadn't told anyone where he was.. though that was mostly because he for sure hadn't intended to end up here. He was by the lake, for heck's sake! And now he was more mud than boy, unable to move out without pain firing up and overwhelming his brain. Maybe he'd get lucky here? Someone would just happen to hear him and come running?
The teen stiffened up when he heard a much louder growling noise. There was no way that was off in the distance! Seb tried to look around and identify the source, but it wasn't until he noticed a large.... shape right next to him. "Aw beans..." he whined softly, tears pushing trails through the dirt on his face. That thing wasn't human and he was pretty sure he knew what it had to be. Defense was his favorite class, even as they'd transitioned into magical creatures.... and who had they just discussed but werewolves? What dramatic and terrible timing!
Seb threw up his left arm in an effort to defend his face and neck, knowing he was no way strong enough to take on a werewolf solo. Heck, he wasn't even sure where his wand was! All he had to do was survive, but without help... well... they'd find him eventually, right?

The child wasn't running and hearing other sounds meant other hunters were there to steal prey! He was here first! The boy would get just enough of a look before he pounced. The arm that was held up would protect the face but teeth would sink right into the arm causing the boy to yelp rather loud in his ears. They both landed in the mud but it was hard for either to maneuver. The wolf would try to drag the smaller boy out of the mud. The slickness was making it harder. Anding to that the boy trashed too. Though one leg seemed to be too injured to thrash. The fight would continue unless someone or something intervened.

A white-hot slice of pain sunk into Seb's arm. He cried out in pain, just wanting it to all stop. Usually his clumsiness didn't have such consequences, and he wasn't sure he was going to make it out of this one. He was all alone, with no one but himself and a monster, trapped in this nightmare. Pain was now radiating throughout him, but he was able to pull his arm free. He whined softly, partly praying this was just a horrible dream gone astray. It was then that Seb heard other sounds. They were muddled by the thrumming of his heartbeat hammering in his ears.
Another wolf barked out an angry command, having pushed the first one out... followed by voices? They seemed to be speaking a language that Seb couldn't comprehend. "Penny was right! Oh goddess... oh no..." That one was... familiar? But how? There usually weren't familiar voices in his nightmares....? "Shush about your humans, Aza. This isn't the time! Help me secure him!" Seb looked around, head spinning way too much to pinpoint any voices from anywhere...
After a few moments and some more noise, something big and hairy was beside him yet again. Seb whimpered as he tried to escape again, but he just didn't have the strength. Thankfully, this one wasn't out for blood and just gently nuzzled him until his body gave out and he collapsed against the warmth. Somewhere out there were voices, his own name.... but it was almost as if it were just beyond his reach. He couldn't grasp the edges because his mind was drifting into unconsciousness. He was just so tired....

Being too focused on trying to get dinner out of the mud the wolf didn't have a chance to regret his prey before being tackled. A mother familier wolf had knocked him clear away for the child and before he could get to his feet vines pulled him back to the ground pinning him. The wolf would fight fruitless and tire itself out. It was here the wolf would remain till morning. Once Morning came and Reggie felt like he got hit by the train 30 times. Thankfully one of the nymphs had procured his bag of clothes. Frantically dressing he was gravy concerned about what happened last night…

Okay, so this night was well beyond chaotic. Something had happened with Reggie's potion, since the guy wasn't exactly the forgetful sort. He did, of course, have two chaotic little boys and a very pregnant wife, so there were very many opportunities for accidents. But nearly the second their transformations had finalized, he was off like a jet. Nani pushed to her paws and chased after, trying to identify his scent in the rain and mud.
And then even worse happened. A scream sounded from somewhere in the trees. She pushed off at a run, just hoping she could get to the source before too much damage took place. She barely had time to take note of just what was going on as she barreled against the other wolf and threw him to the side. Once he was next to a tree, a call from one of the others showed two of the nymph community called out, working their magic to form a sort of trap for Reggie.
Perfect. That allowed Nani to try and help as best she could considering her current form. Though, unfortunately, it wasn't good news. It was a very familiar face. Nani did her best to keep him warm and his face out of the mud, but as he slowly sank down, it was a losing battle. Finally, blissfully, the moon started to sink. As the werewolves shifted back, Nani struggled to keep the boy from drowning in a puddle. "Reggie, you okay? God, come on, Seb. Come on..."
Another set of feet pattered over, one of the two nymphs. "Here, let me help with him. Rosa, go help Reggie out of the weeds, please." Azalea implored softly to her sister before helping gently shift the teen. Nani sent up a barrage of sparks to identify their location and acknowledge safety as she wrapped herself in a heavy coat. It was so much colder without a layer of fur.
Rosalia walked over to Reggie and offered his bag, giving a moment for him to change as she systematically released the trap they'd entangled him within. "Thank goodness Aspen was able to warn us. You only bit him. It probably would have been much worse if we didn't know." While she typically disliked humans and werewolves alike, she had a fondness for the Hill family (thanks to her sister, of course), and that now included Reggie.... not that she'd ever admit that.
A sound came from the bramble moments later, and up above were voices. Apparently they'd figured how this all happened. A few minutes of walking down the hill and around, the school's head healer and their groundskeeper joined the group. With all hands on deck, the kid was carefully laid on a stretcher, though he didn't look any better here. Absolutely soaked on top of all the injuries, which looked terribly gruesome. "Okay. We need to get him inside. Azalea, can you guide us out? Nani and Reggie, if you're able to follow, that would be grand. We're going to need to use the specialty floo in the Hospital Wing to get him to St Mungo's urgently. This is beyond what I've got the equipment to handle."
Once she'd gotten everyone's approval on the goal, Marni led the group, carefully guiding the stretcher as she softly spoke to the boy whenever he'd try to murmur out words. As they got closer to the castle, a professor informed them the halls were clear to get to the Hospital Wing. Nani cast cleaning and drying charms over herself and Reggie, gently patting his back. This had to be a damn-near impossible morning for him. After what felt like forever, the group was in the Hospital Wing and given new tasks. Reggie to alert the Werewolf Support team, since that was his job anyway, and Nani got the fun task of alerting both her mom... and Sebastian's. With the group all in agreement, Marni stepped through the floo and Nani sighed as she waited to use it as well. What was she supposed to say?!
