Current Employment: Student at Hogwarts, Part-time fashion designer and tailor at Cloak & Coven, occasional session player and singer with the Causeway Hares
Dream Job: Maybe an artist, or a clothing designer, or a Quidditch player, maybe all of the above
Personality:
■ Dependable- I like being the person folks know they can rely upon to do the right thing.
■ Visually Oriented- You can almost always expect to see me with a sketchbook close at hand, working out an idea, or maybe drawing something that I thought was really cool.
■ Misty- I’ve been told that sometimes I get distracted and lose focus when I’m doing something boring. It’s not my fault that I get lost sometimes in a neat idea or something catches my eye.
■ Brave- Mom taught me a few things about playing Quidditch, one of them was if you try to avoid getting hurt, you’re the one that gets hit with the Bludger. Meaning: if you’re going to take a risk, take the risk, and then worry about the mess afterwards.
■ Observant- Believe it or not, despite my, um, issues with getting… well, yeah… when I do pay attention to something, I’ll pick out the details other folks might miss. Ever notice all the lines and curves etched into a Snitch? I have, and they’re pretty neat.
■ Empathetic- I always try to take other people’s feelings into consideration whenever I say things, because I don’t like making them feel bad
Likes:
■ Cooking for my friends
■ Shortbread cookies. Love to make them, love to eat them. Now, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to shortbread fresh from the oven…
■ Bright colours
■ My preferred art tools are pencils and inks.
■ I love dogs, especially my Aunt Lynn’s wolfhounds
■ I love music, singing and playing it
Dislikes:
■ Getting bullied just because I don’t look like everybody else.
■ Religion classes. Must we repeat those catechisms all the time?
■ Closed in places, I need an open window, or at least a fan blowing air, or I’ll feel like I’m suffocating.
■ Really spicy food. Italian is okay, but Indian food and most curries don’t do it for me.
■ Dark, dreary days really bum me out.
Hobbies:
■ Art, primarily painting, drawing and I design and make clothes.
■ Cooking. I love being in a kitchen and making things, particularly sweets.
■ Quidditch

History:
Childhood: Linsey came into the world surrounded by her family and other loved ones at the Grey Priory where so many others of her kin were born. Like her mother, she was gifted with odd-coloured hair, though rather than being purple, it was a silvery-blonde in hue, and would soon grow to nearly mid-back or waist-length. It would cause Linsey no end of issues, as she had a habit of getting it caught, leaning on it, and other sometimes embarrassing situations. Her hair can be seen on occasion to actually move on its own in a random fashion, although it can, and does, respond to displays of strong emotions. It also doesn't like being pulled.
As the girl got older, she developed a close relationship with her Aunt Selina, whom doted on Linsey in the same way as a godparent would. The connection is such that Selina’s matched pair of Irish Wolfhounds, Lugh and Cuchulainn, whom are usually only really loyal to their mistress, will interact with Linsey as being a part of their pack. Selina, for her part, has a made the effort to be a significant part of Linsey’s life and education.
School Years: Like all of the other Grey children, Linsey attended a local private Catholic school. As she went through her classes her aptitude and talents garnered her attention and encouragement from her teachers, with some of her art prints being published, and a couple of them even earning for her awards at local shows exhibiting the works of new, young artists. While Linsey acquired a number of friends at school, she was also a frequent target of the mean kids, who teased her for the odd colouration of her long hair, which resisted all attempts to dye another colour or efforts to cut.
It wasn’t before long when the Greys started noticing odd magical incidents centered upon Linsey, ones which told them the girl was a witch in the making. Objects floating in the air, brushes painting pictures without being touched by anyone’s hands, and other basically harmless occurrences were the norm; however, when one of Linsey’s detractors got hurt in a rather novel fashion, requiring the Obliviators to intervene, the Greys knew the time had arrived when they needed to home-school the child.
Unfortunately, because of when Linsey’s birthday fell in the year, she ended up getting her letter late into being eleven, and so she would be arriving at Hogwarts a few days shy of her twelfth birthday. While she really wasn’t actually getting a ‘late’ start, it didn’t feel that way for Linsey, and she arrived at school hoping she wouldn’t be seen as being a late-bloomer or a slow-learner.
Her start was almost late anyway, as her trip to Hogwarts coincided with the impending arrival of her Aunt Fianna's second child, as she went into labour the day before Linsey was to board the train. Rather than stay to witness the birth of her youngest cousin, with the rest of the gathered members of the clan, she was taken to London by her Aunt Lynn (nee Selina Grey). Linsey, understandably, wanted to stay with her family for this event, claiming they needed to stay in case something went awry, and even asking what if her letter was sent by mistake, and what if she just wasn't good enough to be accepted into the school.
Selina put her young cousin's fears to rest, pointing out there were plenty of folk present to help if Fianna needed help, that the letter wasn't a mistake, and that she had it in her to be as a good a witch as anyone in her family. Linsey boarded the train, and she made the journey to Hogwarts. Arriving at the school, she waited with the others for her turn with the Sorting Hat. Linsey promised the Hat she would work really hard not to embarrass whichever House she was placed in.
The Sorting Hat:
The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking....
You've nothing to worry about, my dear
The most important person to make proud is yourself
What others think should always be secondary to that
And I think you'll make yourself quite proud in
Ravenclaw!
You've nothing to worry about, my dear
The most important person to make proud is yourself
What others think should always be secondary to that
And I think you'll make yourself quite proud in
Ravenclaw!
First Year: I really didn't want to leave home to come to Hogwarts, at least not right when Aunt Fi was about to have her baby, and the whole rest of the family was there to see it happen, but there was nothing to be done for it but make the best of the situation. I was really surprised to be accepted into Ravenclaw House, I guess maybe I'm more like my Aunt Lynn than I supposed. I tried out for the Quidditch team, and while I didn't make it onto the team itself, I did get on with the Reserves, which means I get to practice with them, wear the uniform and get extra flying time in, so that was pretty cool. It also means I need to start bugging Ma an Da to buy a new broomstick for me to fly next term.
I met a bunch of cool kids in the Cooking Club, including a kid who has a pet squirrel, which I didn't know was even allowed since they're a wild animal, and not on the supplies list. I have fun learning to make new dishes and having the chance to make some of the things Grammy taught me. Also joined the Art Club, as was suggested to me by the art teacher, Professor Hawthorne, after sneaking into her Third Year Art class.
Guess I threw her for a loop; because while ditching classes is a thing, it's rather novel having a student show up for a class they aren't even signed up for and aren't old enough to be there for. I earned the attention of my Head of House, not something I was planning on, and the privilege of being a guest in the class on occasion, as long as I'm not doing this at the expense of what I'm supposed to be doing.
It has been suggested that I should consider trying out next term as a Beater, so that I might get playing time in. I'll have to ask Ma about getting in some practice over the summer.
Second Year: This year I was able to take Blannat with me to school. He's Lugh's grandpup, and he's a real handful, literally and figuratively. He loves attention and is really curious about everything, and he'll outweigh me by next summer. I also tried out for Beater this year, after getting trained up a bit by Ma and some of her teammates on the Irish National Team. Did well enough that I made the starting line-up. During this year, I got the chance to do some modelling for Yari Wellbelove, from whom I was getting tips on how to design my own clothes. I guess she saw some measure in talent in me. It was fun getting to learn how to pose for the camera, and it got me imagining what it must be like to be a real runway model. Who knows, maybe one day I'll get to do just that, you never know...
Over Christmas break, Aunt Lynn and I took a trip to Milan, to do a bit of Christmas shopping, and at one point we ended up at a little family-owned restaurant around dinnertime. Next thing I knew, we were exchanging hugs and kisses and sitting down in the back dining room having dinner with the familia. It was so cool getting the chance to try dibs and dabs of everything at the table, including a small glass of Chianti and the Tiramisu served for dessert. I also made the acquaintance of the owners’ younger son, Elio, who was a young Wizard on holiday from Beauxbatons. While there, after I made mention of being a member of the school Cooking Club, I was gifted with a cookbook I could actually read, containing authentic Italian recipes.
Third Year: Over the summer, I got the chance to get trained up more in my Quidditch by the younger members of the Irish National Team and was gifted with a gold leprechaun charm on a chain for good luck. We also went to the big festival in Waterford, like we usually do.
Getting back to school, the big thing which was casting a shadow over just about everything was the death of Angier Zheng. Apparently, he died in the course of a magical experiment which went all shades of wrong. I didn't know him, he was an older student and not from my House, but he was Yari's boyfriend, and poor Yari had to deal with him being gone. I didn't have much experience dealing with death, and I was a bit clueless about how Yari was handling the aftermath.
When Yari opened up Art Club, I found her sewing random bits of cloth together to create what I found out later she intended to be her burial shroud. Thankfully, Taylor, who was more clued in than I, intervened, and perhaps stopped another tragedy. One positive coming out of things was seeing Lewis show up at Art Club. I knew him from his dad's shop in Diagon Alley, as Mom and I went in there on a regular basis.
Not long before the end of the year somebody (never found out who) decided to organize a pick-up Quidditch match, with all the interested participants drawing lots to determine which side to fly on. It was a cool idea as this was a chance to play a match with other players that I didn't normally have the chance to, as they were in another House, and give younger players some match experience, even if the stakes were just bragging rights. It was so cool seeing Yari as a team Captain, even if I ended up being a Reserve player in the match.
The match was a rather low-scoring affair, even if some of the best Chasers in the school were in the match, but it was notable for the epic duel between the Beaters, all of them being embers of the Knapp family, and the sheer number of players getting knocked out of the match. I got to see an amazing catch, as Ronald Quinn-Smith swooped in to catch his sister in midair after she was knocked off her broomstick by a Bludger by Zack Knapp, and the Gryffindor Chaser managed to get them both to the pitch without getting both of them splattered across the pitch. After the match, being a Healing Arts student, I went up to the Hospital Wing and volunteered to help out with all the injured players. Shortly afterwards, Yari left school early, as she needed more help than she could get at the school.
Fourth Year: I wanted to visit Yari over the summer, maybe even bring Blannat with me, as an emotional support wolfhound, but it could never be worked out. So, I arranged to send a large package in my place, letting Yari know she hadn’t been forgotten, and that she was being thought of. I made sure to pack with all sorts of homemade goodies (my shortbread and jars of Irish stew for starters), along with a couple artbooks I picked out for her, and some fabric Aunt Lynn got for me.
I wasn't sure how things would go this year without Flora at the helm of the Quidditch team, with Milan taking over. It's funny how I was drawn to him, looking to him for guidance and well,,, more than that. Looking through my sketchbooks, one would be surprised to see how often he figured into my doodles and random daydreams. He was injured the wintery match, partly because Yarrick and I weren't able to ward off Bludgers well enough to save him, enough so he needed to stay in hospital over Christmas break, and I decided to stay at school to keep him company. Mom and Dad were disappointed I wasn't there at home, and I didn't sing any solos at church or Midnight Mass, but they understood I was keeping a... friend from having to spend Christmas alone.
Shortly before exams was the school carnival the Prefects and the Club Captains were preparing for most of the school year. It was spearheaded by Milan (of course), and Aria League (the Head Girl), and all the clubs were involved, so I was busy doing things to help Art Club, and Culinary Club, and the Quidditch team, so we could put our best foot forward. The family showed up to attend the carnival, and I was so thrilled to show them all the things I was doing. It was also my chance to introduce Mom to Milan, and, I guess, it was then the pieces of the puzzle came together with Mom and I.
In truth, I was crushing on Milan, and why not? I saw in him things I wanted to be myself, and he was so handsome, and a sharp dresser, and a confident leader for the Quidditch team. The problem was, as I was told later by Mom, that though innocent and totally understandable on my part, was inappropriate, as he was an adult, and he couldn't reciprocate any of my feelings without getting into trouble. Even more, he was dating Taylor Olson at the time.
As summer was soon to start, I got an interesting job offer. Aunt Lynn arranged for me to have a paid internship, working for her on a dig in Egypt. It was an intriguing thought to be sure, and the money going into my account at Gringotts would have been more than I likely would get anywhere else. Before I could give her an answer, Mom torpedoed the whole thing, pointing out the dangers of being in Egypt, and not having access to my magic. But it wasn't all bad, because I got the chance to help Milan, and his partner Vera, open Cloak and Coven, their new business in Diagon Alley. I had the chance to be a part of their dream given form, as I worked for them, and got to wear this beautiful icy blue dress I designed for the occasion.
Fifth Year: Between the big festival in Waterford, getting chances to practice with Mom's friends on the Irish National Team, and working for Milan, my summer was a busy one. I found out that I made Prefect, and I was given the chance to be the Captain of the Culinary Club, and Vice-Captain of the House Quidditch team, helping Syd Barrett as he took over from Milan (I didn't envy him his task; Milan is a real hard act to follow, and I was still having visions of seeing his blood in the snow after that winter match), who'd graduated. I was so excited about getting these oppourtunities, I hoped to see this ever since I was a First Year and got to see what the older students did, seeing that Prefect's badge was all I needed to know that my dreams were becoming real.
However, it wasn't all neat stuff, not when the spectre of having to write thirteen OWLs at the end of the year loomed ahead. So, on top of all the neat stuff I needed to study long and hard to pass my examinations. Good thing for me I kept all my class notes and could even refer to Aunt Lynn's (why am I not shocked to see she had them still after all these years?) if I needed to.
I was thrilled by how well the start of my meeting of the Culinary Club went. I chose to make my first as sort of welcoming party, with me making the centerpiece dishes, while asking members to bring things to compliment. So, I created three different lasagnas, with salad and breadsticks, ensuring no matter what nobody would be going away hungry. Did I go over and a above? Likely so, but I didn't care, I wanted to be sure my first club meeting ever went over well, and there would be good photographs for the Daily Dragon. For the most part it went well, however there was one student who didn't have so good of a time, a little First Year named Llewella Eynon, who was freaked out by the turnout and my rather large dog.
Later that evening, I was gifted with the chance to make amends when I discovered Llewella trying to cook a pot of noodles in the Student Kitchens. As I later learned, she was barely eating and scared of her own shadow. She was even scared of me, even without the dog present, because I am a good bit taller than she. While bonding over cooking a dinner, I started forging a friendship, at eleven years old was shorter even than some of my young cousins. It was a friendship which would deepen as the went along.
Rather than meet up with Aunt Lynn in Hogsmeade and go off on some grand bit of Christmas shopping, and worrying Mom about why weren't home yet, I volunteered to help out with Prefect duties by escourting the students coming back on the train for the Christmas holiday. After making sure my charges made off the train, and I was about to leave to meet up with Aunt Lybb at the Leaky Cauldron, Blannat and I spotted Llewella (now, 'Ella') returning from the Floo grates. Until right, I had no clue she was even on the train, and she looked so scared that we rushed over to her. It was then I learned Ella tried to return home, and she discovered she had no home and her family in Romania disowned her. Right about then, Nora Heulwen, one of the senior Governors of the school arrived to help us out.
My first thought was that Aunt Lynn would know exactly what to do, being a senior Cursebreaker and all, but no this was Nora's actual job. I was outraged at what was done to Ella and was resolved to do whatever needed to be done to make nothing more happened to her. With choices of being shipped off to Wool's Orphanage (which was a cursed place from the stories I'd been told by Grammy), or going back to school, and then the orphanage come summer, I proposed that I take her in for the holiday. Thankfully, Aunt Lynn backed me up on my decision, as Mom and Dad were surprised at taking in Ella. Curiously, Grammy told us she'd been waiting for Ella, and told me how I was meant to find her there and be in the position to help Ella out.
As much fun as it was having a friend there for the run of the holiday, it wasn't all fun and games. Aedan MacInnes, Tam's... well maybe 'brother' wasn't the best description, but maybe 'true companion', as it wasn't right seeing one without the other, and fellow Art Club member, was killed in a horrible accident on the road. What was sad to see was how dear, sweet Tam was becoming a shadow of himself as the term went on, as though without Aeden he was fading away from the world, and I started getting increasingly concerned for him. After seeing what happened with Yari, I didn't wish for the same to befall Tam as well.
During the rest of the term, my family was quietly working on adopting Ella, as Mother Grey explained to Mom that this was meant for us to do. The other Prefects found out what happened on the train, and I made the point to ask that if anything came up with Ella, to let me know, and I'd take care of it. I was becoming her sister, making sure that she ate regularly and that she was taken care of, while getting her to trust that I wasn't going to abandon her like everyone else in her life.
I'm not going to lie, OWLs were brutal, but I weathered them. My Wandless OWL was so easy I didn't realize I'd even taken it until it was over, this was in stark contrast with the DADA OWL, where my encounter with my boggart put me in hospital overnight. My Healing Arts OWL was good enough for me to be on Marni's list of 'approved Healers' in the Hospital Wing, and my performance in my Wizard Law OWL was such that I narrowly missed getting the 'Outstanding' I was hoping to secure, but only because the panel of examiners weren't fully convinced by efforts to sway them. Still, I managed nine "Outstanding' and four 'Exceeds Expectations' for my efforts, and I wasn't complaining.
The day of our departure from school found me worried, as I'd heard nothing from Mom and Dad about how the adoption proceedings were going, and it was my fear that poor Ella would spend some part of the summer in that orphanage. If that came to pass, it was my plan to rescue Ella, and bring her home for another 'extended sleepover'. Thankfully, before I needed to execute some hare-brained scheme like that, I got a note from home, letting me know I had nothing to worry about, but to say nothing to Ella. We got to London, and a bunch of the family was there to greet us, although Freya let the cat out of the bag by greeting her new cousin prematurely, and everyone got a good chuckle out of that. Seeing Mom and Dad welcome Ella into the family was a sight I'll never forget so long as I live.
Sixth Year: I'm not going to say integrating Ella into the family was the easiest thing. I needed to recruit Freya's help when I took on the challenge of combing out all the tangles in Ella's hair, as the poor kid was never taught how to take care of herself. There was the trip to the doctor for her first check-up in like probably ever, but that was made up for when Mom took us to a day-spa for some well-deserved pampering. I worked to get her used to going to church, as her old family basically kept penned up in an attic and tried to get her to bond with the other kids there, like the ones who were part of our Youth Choir. I was never really a part of it as I got borrowed for the Chancel Choir when I was seven, and the adult soloist took ill, and our Choir Director, Happy, never saw fit to put me back in with the kids. I do, however, help out with the younger kids, which Happy and Weldon (our Music Director, and Happy's husband) really appreciate.
Tam held a wake for Aedan over the summer, giving us the chance to grieve properly for him, and to assure Tam that no matter what he'd always have his friends there at his side. It's still hard to believe Aedan is gone, and still isn't right for Tam to have to find his way in the world without him.
During the summer, I was back working with Milan and Vera at Cloak & Coven, and I was able to bring Ella along, as much to get out of her room and out socializing with folk as it was because she was interested in fashion (and the big poofy dresses in the shop) and liked hanging out and helping me. In addition to helping with assembling outfits, I was putting out my own designs and honing my skills as a seamstress. It was a bit of a bummer finding out we wouldn't be going to the big summer show in New York City, although Milan held out hope we would have enough ready to make a big splash next summer.
I was honoured beyond words to when Yari offered me the chance to take over the Art Club, it said much that she would trust me to carry the club forward in her stead. It didn't matter to me that I already had so much to occupy my time, this was a dream come true for me, and I was determined not only to do my mentor proud, but also provide a safe space for Ella to be creative. Lewis, who I appointed to be my deputy on both the Quidditch team and to take over the Art Club (and thus being the first Second Generation Club Captain that I'm aware of), was surprised to see I'd done all the prep work for both the Art Club opening and the start of term party for the Culinary Club, and asked for the chance to split the load in the future.
This year marked the first time Ella would be coming with me to Hogwarts as my actual sister, and my cousin Finn was coming for his First Year with us. Even though Mom told me that I wouldn't be responsible for my younger siblings, everyone knew I would take on the responsibility anyway, because that's what I do. it wasn't long into the term when we found out Ella could play piano and she could sing, and the three of us had an impromptu jam session one evening, when Ella failed to show up for dinner, and Finn and I found her in the Music Room.
Shortly before we were to head home for the holidays, Tam had a panic attack, and one of the Slytherin girls I knew from Quidditch, Hesperia brought up to the Hospital Wing while I was on duty. Both of them were covered in blood, as Tam had used a knife to cut himself in an attempt to release the pressure he was under. We both tend to take on extra projects because we feel bad when we disappoint people by saying 'no'. While Marni cleaned up the mess elsewhere, I stayed with him as he explained that, no, he wasn't attempting to kill himself. Seeing Tam in such a state scared me, and I knew if anything happened to him, I would have been broken by it. I was emotionally spent by the end of the evening, and I curled up with my dog and cried myself to sleep that night.
Over the Christmas holiday which started with a fun shopping trip with Aunt Lynn to Strausburg, France, Ella and I were at Cloak & Coven when he found out that Beito, one of Ella's Housemates, was abandoned by his mother. It worked out that Milan is his half-brother, and he took Beito in and planned to bring him on to help out at the show. We also learned Milan planned to enter the competition at the fashion show in July, and he wanted to sponsor me in the Teen Designer competition. I jumped at the oppourtunity, even though that meant more work. I planned to design three outfits while still at school, and while taking lead on Milan's spring collection. I decided early on I would model two of the outfits myself, while the third would be an over-the-top princess dress for Ella.
On the Quidditch front, Lewis asked me over the summer to put him in as Seeker, and we were able to forge a new team. We had a good season but were edged out of getting the House Cup when Slytherin swept the season. I am proud of our team, and what we managed to achieve; I learned a lot during my first campaign as Captain, and I don't begrudge Brianna her victory, not after the world-class drubbing Slytherin took the year previous.
Seventh Year: When I received notification of my promotion to Head Girl, I was floored by it to say the least. Seeing Aria League take to the position like a duck to water, and looking good doing it, inspired me to aspire to do the same. I also understood the whole school would be looking to me for student leadership. Shortly afterwards, I was sending out a mass Owl Post to all Prefects, Club Captains and alternates, letting them know of my intent to stage a school event like what Milan and Aria did, including a fashion show, with any money accrued going to benefit all the clubs, and I wanted input from everyone.
Attending the Art and Music Festival in Waterford, I was on stage for the second year in a row, singing with the Causeway Hares, as was Finn. The Hares were cutting a live album during their three concerts, and a couple of my performances made the cut, so I'm now considered as having a professional credit to my list of accomplishments.
In July, the family went with Milan and Vera to the Summer Fashion Show in New York City. There was no way Ella and I would have been allowed to go without having Mom as chaperone, and Dad got time off from the Ministry to make this a family outing. Milan made a real splash in the competition, and I got to model outfits for him on the runway. Good thing I learned the things that I did from Yari when she was at school, because it gave me confidence to be on a pretty big stage without feeling too foolish. I did well in the Teen competition, and modeled two of my creations, and escourted Ella out as she wore that princess dress that I made for her. I am so proud of her for being so brave, and it was fun getting her hair and makeup ready for the big show, even if the Teen show was done with a much smaller audience of parents and some of the fashion executives.
