◊ TIMID Brian is rather timid. Thrown from a world where everything was contained and controlled into the great big world beyond, Brian tends to be apprehensive of everything. As a result, he doesn't speak much and has a hard time dealing with too many people at once.
◊ CAUTIOUS Brian is also cautious. He doesn't know much about the world, and what he has discovered scares him. Also, as he discovered his parents had done some horrible things, he's hesitant to trust people that aren't Eric.
◊ NAIVE Brian is rather naive about the world. He has no real experience outside of the basement he was raised, and doesn't understand much about how people act. As a result, he can easily be taken advantage of.
◊ CURIOUS Because of his confinement, Brian is insanely curious about everything going on around him. While there are a lot of scary things that Brian doesn't understand, there is also plenty that cause him to ask Eric about. He is more than eager to learn about the world at large.

CHILDHOOD Brian is the only child of Dean and Jillian Ramsey. His early childhood was full of loneliness and neglect. His parents barely paid him any attention, and only what they needed to so that he didn't starve. Otherwise his entire childhood was spent in the basement of their home, not knowing what the outside world was like or anyone besides his parents.
However, around the time he turned six, Brian's world expanded by one person. For a birthday gift, his parents brought down to his world a boy his age. The new boy, Eric, was completely unlike anything Brian had known at the time. At first, Eric screamed and cried a lot, begging to be let go, but Brian's parents never did so. After a while, however, Eric calmed down, and Brian was quick to include him in Brian's life. However, Eric was prone to act out, and unlike Brian, often got hurt for disobeying.
This all led to Brian's ninth birthday, when his mom came down and asked about bringing someone else in. Brian, not understanding what she meant by it, agreed, eager to meet someone new, but Eric started screaming at her, telling her it was wrong. As before, she started disciplining him, but this time more severely than she had previously. Brian was terrified at their sudden outbursts, and started yelling himself. After a sudden pulse of light, Brian's mom was dead and Eric was staring at Brian in shock. However, as the door upstairs was unlocked, Eric decided to take Brian and run from the house.
The two boys ended up at a police station, where Eric spoke with the police about what had happened. That's when Brian found out the truth. His parents had kidnapped Eric years earlier and kept him locked up alongside Brian. Brian couldn't even understand why. However, the police decided to take the two boys into child services, where it was revealed that Dean had escaped and Eric's family was dead. As a result, the two were transferred to Wool's when it was discovered that both boys were magical.
Around the time Brian turned eleven, he got his acceptance letter to Hogwarts. Unsure about how it was going to go, Brian wasn't willing to go until Eric also received his letter. When that happened, Brian was much more willing to go someplace new as opposed to staying at the orphanage. It also helped that he knew at least one student already, so he was a lot less nervous about the idea than he was originally.
