Commonly referred to as Greenhouse no. 5, this greenhouse is the only one not used for classes. It houses the Herbology club, but other students can work on projects here.

Nicholas Hayward-Ye sang. As surprising of a fact as this might be to most, it was true. He was part nymph, after all, was it so surprising he was musically inclined as well? Nic had started his tour of the greenhouse with a quiet humming of a Chinese tune that his Aunt Lola sang often to her own plants that she had picked up in her training in the art of metal charming with friends of her grandparents in China. He had chosen the song for no reason in particular besides the fact that the plants liked it. As he sang over the Chinese syllables he honestly did not even know what he sung. His Mandarin was sparse at best.
Still tending to the plants, his back to the door he thought pleasant thoughts to will the plants to do their very best. He thought of the summer with his Dad how he looked forward to his time spent with the "Old Man" now. He thought of the laughing of his nymph relatives in the New Forest. He thought of his kind nymph grandmother Cherry and her partner his grandfather carefully making wands. He thought of all the time Aunt Lola spent mentoring him. He thought of arithmancy and the comfort of the numbers. He thought of his future plans as a cursebreaker. He thought of his friends from the quidditch team, to club members, to fellow announcers, to Tàmhas. Tàm... good trusty Tàm. When did he become something more than anyone else? They were friends and they did share the link of being part nymph but it was more than that. Nic knew the word for it - crush - but despite being a Gryffindor he was more ready to roll in a vat of tarantulas than admit that crush aloud yet. What if he made things weird.
Nic paused his song only for a moment with a sigh and the plants followed the movement. Realizing the stumble, he shook his head and returned to his low singing as he worked to repot the Bubotuber he was working on.
For a moment the hat was silent before speaking.... Ah, but this nose doesn’t need to poke too far To see that behind that distrustful warning You’d do quite well in Gryffindor!

Tàmhas had been working on studying up in the library, but honestly, he was in the mood to be anywhere else. Textbooks and notes could only be so captivating, after all. With a sigh, he packed his books in his bag, then started to head elsewhere. Glancing out one of the huge windows, he saw the greenhouses in the distance. Maybe some fresh air would be good? The greenhouses were always nicely warm, even on the coldest days, so he figured out a plan. He hurried down to his dorm to swap from his sneakers into warm boots and leave behind his backpack. Grabbing his thermos, the brunette stepped over to the kitchen to get it filled with a nice batch of hot cocoa. What better way to enjoy the day?
Úna nestled into the folded brim of his warm hat, earning a smile from the nymph as he hurried out. He was whistling a jaunty tune as he walked, just trying to enjoy the day. Once outside, he hugged his sweater close against the whistling wind, stopping a few feet from the student greenhouse when he noticed someone inside. Oh, and it was someone he'd quite hoped to see. Stepping closer, he gently knocked on the glass door so he wouldn't startle Nic, then he stepped in the warm building. "Och, awright thare, Nic. Fancy meetin ye 'ere."
He couldn't help the warm flush that colored over his cheeks. Thankfully, he could always say it was just from the cold air outside, rather than from his budding crush. It had been a while now that he was crushing on the other boy, but he simply hadn't had a chance to mention it to the other. They were both pretty busy, but man, he was glad that fate helped him out today. "Ah brought mah homemade het cocoa, 'n' thir's plenty fur twa. Bit um... Sin th' fates brought us th'gither th'day, ah wis... Hoping tae blether tae ye. A-about something that's bin oan mah mynd." He set the heavy thermos on the table, sending over a nervous smile. He'd been wanting to have this conversation since the first day of Herbology club, but things just hadn't granted them a moment alone.
No more fear though, or dilly-dallying. Tàmhas was determined to get his feelings out today... he just hoped Nic felt the same.

At Tàmhas's greeting, the note in Nic's voice dropped off as if from a ledge. He turned, ever so slightly not neglecting his Bubotuber he almost was done with. Warmth reddened his cheek ever so slightly under his already naturally warmer skin tone. He smiled and agreed, "Fancy meeting you here, indeed. Let me finish with the Bubotuber - I don't want covered in puss." He paused to whisper to the plant as he carefully packed in the soil. "I'm sure it is glorious puss but let's not waste it on me, today."
Stepping back he wiped the dirt on his apron he gave his full attention to Tàm. "You know me, I'm never the type to turn down a good cup of cocoa and your's is the best..." he gave a wink and then kicked himself at the idiocy of what could easily be taken as flirting. Nic liked flirting with people who caught his eye and Tàm was definitely the top of his list but Tàm was a good friend and he really, really didn't want to make things weird. Nic decided to play it off as a joke if he had to.
As Tàm brought up something on his mind, Nic's good natured smile paused before falling ever so slightly. "I'm all ears. Not literally but go ahead. Want to find a bench and break into the cocoa first? Serious talk is always better with something hot on your stomach, or at least that is what my Mum always said."
For a moment the hat was silent before speaking.... Ah, but this nose doesn’t need to poke too far To see that behind that distrustful warning You’d do quite well in Gryffindor!

Tàmhas looked momentarily startled when Nic froze up. Uh-oh, was he not wanting company? Green eyes went wide before the teen relaxed tenfold when Nic noted the plant he was working with. Bubotubers were finicky little lads, so Tàm nodded and stood quietly for a moment. Once the little plant was safely tucked into his pot, Nic was able to clean up his hands a bit. Then, oh dear. Nic winked. He winked?!?! What was that about?!
"Tis nae a guid winter day wi'oot some cocoa. A'm juist glad a've git someone tae share it wi'." He smiled over, wishing for a second the heat in his cheeks would die down a bit. "Twa cups o' cocoa comin' richt up. Huvin warmth oan th' belly does sound mighty bonnie." Tàm used the duplication spell on the camp cup he'd brought along, pouring a cup for each of them. Once they were poured up, the shorter brunette carried both mugs to the bench and sat beside Nic.
"Sae um... A've bin meaning tae blether tae ye fur a bawherr noo. 'n' ah'ament terribly guid at wurds, bit ah.. Ah... Ah fancy ye, nic. Ferr a bawherr, actually. I-i'm nae even sure if ye'r keen oan lads, bit ah wantit tae git it oot thare. If ye dinnae care fur me th' identical, tis okay, bit ah juist hawp ah didnae mak' hings pure weird." He had been looking at Nic at the beginning, but as the words spilled out, his gaze dropped, staring into the cocoa with all the determination his little body could muster.
If Nic didn't want to date boys, or worse, didn't want to date him specifically, it might just crush Tàmhas' heart into the greenhouse floor. Actually, not liking boys might just be fine... it'd really be the specific, right? But Maggey had kindly said the worst Nic could say was "no", followed by Pa laughing and noting the time a girl responded to his fancy with an "ew".... but Nic probably wouldn't say ew.... oh dear, unless he did?! Why was this so nerve-wracking?! Tàmhas felt like his heart may just try to escape.

Nic welcomed Tàm's company on the bench and the cup of cocoa. He listened as Tàmhas began to explain what he wanted to speak to Nic about. Nic half choked on his sip of cocoa when Tàm plainly put that he fancied him. That wasn't quite what Nic was expecting. He didn't know what he was expecting, but it wasn't that.
Recovering, Nic narrowed his eyes at Tàm for a moment and then shook his head. "Not keen on lads? I thought it wasn't exactly a secret... I'm not picky - well I have standards but I don't care about particulars of gender. And, as for you, to be blunt you've been probably on the top of my list of people I've wanted to snog for a while now."
He paused took a sip of his cocoa and then added, "Maybe I should have answered a bit more romantically."

Tàmhas bit his lip, waiting for Nic to respond. His heart was thrumming in his ribs, making the Hufflepuff feel a little woozy. Nic shook his head as Tàm waited for the rejection... which never came? Apparently Nic had indeed been keen on lads, or anyone of whatever gender. Well, that was news, but oh well. It was far from the most important thing he'd said. He said Tàm was at the top of the list?! That was fantastic news!! What a revelation!! Though Nic added that he should've been more romantic and Tàmhas laughed. "Aww Nic, 'oo cares aboot romance? we kin dae a' that... mibbie Seturday? We kin donder tae Hogsmeade th'gither 'n' git dinner... As a coople?"
Tàm took a sip of the cocoa, smiling over at the taller boy. "Bit... If yi'll waant tae check aff th' tap o` yer list, a'd be happy wi' that." He could feel his cheeks warming, but he wanted that kiss! Shifting his mug a bit, Tàmhas leaned in, gently pressing his lips against Nic's. What a perfect moment!
