~Chapter 1~ Walking with Fire (preface on profile) (companions)
Falling, falling like a stone towards the dark depths of oblivion. Burning, burning like everyone of my kind does every 1000 years, once again. I cringe as I always do; fighting the urge to yell in agony, even though I know no one will hear my pleas for help. For now I have no voice, because now I am what I started as…ashes. The pain ebbed away after what seemed like hours, rather than those few minutes. In the darkness I waited solemnly to take form again, once again. The light came back gradually. I found my wings still miraculously attached, even though that what’s to be expected. I inhaled, savoring the airs sweet sent, dripping with new life and sunlight. My golden eyes open to reveal a newborn forest, teeming with life and joy. The gold/green canopy, unusual to me, glittered warmly above my head, a nice change in contrast to the cold darkness I just stepped from. I felt new again, renewed, to await the 1000 years to come around again. Waves of bronze hair fell to my mid-back, and the sheen glowed fiery gold in the forest light. Two magnificent bronze-gold wings graced my shoulders and back, and I welcomed the freedom and safety they gave me. Camel breeches and a deep mahogany shirt made up my attire. Deep brown boots laced up about halfway to my knees, well worn and used. I gazed around, appreciating the beauty that never grows old around me, always in its youth, much like me. For those who don’t know me, I am Alexandria, more commonly known as Alex. I am about 300 years old but appear to be 16. I am a direct descendent of Mourinu, 1st of my kind, the phoenix. I am a healer wanderer, traveling through time, appearing in lives to help those in need of help and just as quietly slipping away again to a different time. Right now I am in the 21st century. I cherish the only relic of my past life, the silver pendent that hangs delicately around my neck. My past life, before I was changed, was in the 24th century. I was known as Kendal, though I refuse to be known as that now. Mourinu was there to change me, for she knew that I was going to perish under the hands of my rulers at the time and wanted me out of my abnormal healing abilities. I don’t remember much of my past life, just that it was dark and painful. From what I remember, I believe my past was brutal. Sometimes I dream about glaring red eyes watching me from the deep shadows below, and the sulfurous clouds hovering above, and tall dark spires penetrating the gloom all around me. Mourinu vaguely mentioned that I was thrown off something, a tower maybe? I was thrown back into the present time by the sound of muffled footsteps. Quickly, I hid myself in the few half-shadows the forest presented, back towards the trees, attempting to hide my wings. Three young children, one girl and two boys, darted into the clearing where I inhabited a second before, almost colliding with each other. Their eyes darted around, excitement obvious in their expressions. In the distance I heard a fourth child call out, “Ready or not now here I come!” One of the boys looked in my direction, and his eyes widened suddenly, ogling at me in shock, most definitely not expecting for me to be there, on those premises. He spun around, searching for his companions, but they were already well-hid. Another set of footsteps thundered down the forest trail that led into the clearing, and a young girl pelted through, double-taking when she saw that the boy staring at me wasn’t hidden. She stepped cautiously in front of him, not noticing me yet, thankfully. She waved her hand in front of his face, but he didn’t react, frozen in shock. “Heee-looo? Anyone in there? Yo, Tyler! Wake up!” she snapped at him, and he jerked out of his trance-like state. “Uhh-What?!? Oh……sorry Ellen” He look apologetically at her, and then turned to face me again, blinking twice to make sure I was still there. This girl, Ellen I think, turned to look at what Tyler was staring at. “O-oh,” she stated, surprised at me being here. I still refused to come out. “Ummm, hi,” she continued, rather uncomfortable. I stayed silent, wary. Even though they were no more than my technical age doesn’t mean that they are harmless, though they look harmless enough. I nodded once, acknowledging her. “Okay then…..”she trailed off, leaving room for me to say something if I wanted to. I felt rather guilty leaving her uncomfortable like that, so I took half a step towards them, “Hello, Ellen and Tyler is it?” They nodded, so I continued, “Well, I truly am sorry to interrupt-“I was cut off by bushes rustling to my right, and a boy complaining, “Ellen! You’re taking forever! What are you two doing?!?” For the first time, Tyler spoke, “Errr, Kyle? You embarrassing yourself,” “What do you mean? You’re the ones not seeking!” “No, I mean, look behind you.” Tyler completed his train of thought. He turned around, and went red in the face, with embarrassment I expect. Then, unexpectedly, he snickered and whispered something inaudible to Ellen. “Hey! Hey you! Move it!” a prissy voice snapped behind me. I spun around, astonished to find the fourth kid right there, stumbling backwards, “Watch it! You nearly took my eye out!” she growled at me, very irritated. “Excuse me?” I said, sharper than was intended, probably my surprise and irritation at this brat caused that. “You nearly took my eye out!” she repeated, glaring up at me. “Well then, I’m sorry to hear that. But you’re going to have to live with that youg’n, because I can take the other one out just as easily” I threatened, raising an eyebrow. “You better not.” She said, a trickle of fear entering her voice, apparently she took my threat quite literally. “I have all the right to,” I clarified. The others were watching, speechless, at us. I leaned against a tree and banged my head against it, “Owwwww,” I muttered. Smooth move smart one, I antagonized myself. “Ouch. Are you okay?” Tyler asked worriedly, while the little brat here smirked up at me. “Uh-yeah I’m fine,” I said rubbing my head. I glanced at the others again, and was surprised to find them edging closer, “As I said before, I am sorry to interrupt your game, and I’ll just be on my way,” I informed them, gradually moving back into the shadows. “You aren’t going anywhere.” The sassy girl commanded me. The other three nodded in various enthusiasms, “You need to tell us some things first.” I glared at her and had all the right mind to Time-walk right then, but I knew that Mourinu wouldn’t want to make these humans suspicious. I asked warily, on guard, “What do you want to know?” The girl went over to her comrades and whispered among them, then she took stance next to Ellen, and Tyler stepped forwards and asked hesitantly, “What is your name? How old are you? Where do you live? Answer honestly please. Why are you dressed like you live in the dark ages?” he eyed my attire specutivly, “And why aren’t you coming out of the shadows?” “Well, my name is Alex, I am 16 years old. I live nowhere, and like my clothing.” I answered as honestly as possible, hopefully not giving anything away. “Cool. Man, you are a lot like us-“he started but Ellen interrupted happily, “Shhhh, I want to talk now. Yea you really are. As repayment, my name is Ellen, this is Cassy” gestures to the brat next to her, “This is Tyler, and this is Kyle. We are all 15, except for Cassy who’s 14. We live nowhere as well.” For the first time, I actually noticed what they looked like. Tyler was fairly scrawny, with sandy brown hair and friendly hazel eyes. He wore an old pair of blue jeans with a button down red plaid shirt. Kyle was slightly buffer, but very sickly, he had platinum blonde hair with deep sapphire blue eyes. He wore black slacks and a blue shirt with its sleeves torn off. Ellen had long brown hair that was slightly curly with vivid green eyes. She seemed the wisest of the group, and that got me, for some reason. And lastly the brat, Cassy, had short thick ink black hair and brown eyes. I didn’t and would never like here. The two girls both wore the same uniform, a navy blue skirt with a white tee shirt and stockings. They also wore navy headbands. School uniforms, I guessed, and, get this, they all had guns.
