So today is Thanksgiving. Of course, you probably know the story of the Pilgrims boarding the Mayflower and crossing the Atlantic to start a new life with religious freedom. They landed at Plymouth rock in an uncivilized area with no idea of how to make homes for themselves of to get food. They planted seeds, but plants were skimpy because they had no fertilizer.
After a year, 50% of the Pilgrims died of starvation. The 50% that were left needed help desperately. The indiginous (native) people of the land (also referred to as Indians) had sat that year thinking what dumb-asses these pale-skinned people were. They came out of hiding in peace and began to help the Pilgrims who didn't have a damn clue. They taught them to save the parts of the fish that they didn't use (the heads, organs, bones, etc.) to use them as fertilizer for their crops.
After food was grown and the population was begining to grow again, the Pilgrims invited the indiginous people to feast with them as they celebrated their success (well, the success they got with a little help from their friends at any rate.)
You would think that the Pilgrims and Indians stayed good friends, but that isn't so. Within fifty years the Pilgrims killed off most of the indiginous people saying they were "savages".
Just think, the Pilgrims invaded the indiginous people's land, they survived because of the indiginous people's help, and yet, they killed them off. If anything, it should have been the other way around.
This is why I oppose celebrating Thanksgiving. I still do, as I'm a minor and I have to do as my parents do for another three years, meaning that even though I disapprove of Thanksgiving, I get turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, yams, and pie shoved down my throat. I just think of Thanksgiving as another gluttonous (over-eating) holiday with pagan traditions that honor two-faced "Christians". If this is how Christians are supposed to act, I am beginning to lose my faith as a Christian.
