Primal Code

The sky was dark and rain clouds hovered over a city named Twilight Town. It rained constantly for it is the raining season, winter. Some days it got so cold it could freeze the rain to make ice, but somehow it was always too cold to snow. In the city, there is an underground lab where scientists are preforming a gene that would be inserted into the bloodstream of the many people that lived in that city. The gene enables the body to take on the absurdly cold atmosphere, more like inserting a primal gene so the humans are able to cope and have survival skills to benefit their environment. The gene was a success, but little did they know the side effects were lethal. They called the gene 'toxic=trigger.' The cell would be able to activate when the human has the behavior to trigger the certain cell. The scientists inserted the gene into a test subject, a human. They kept him overnight until he experienced a mutation into his other cells causing him to react like an animal and granted the subject super strength to escape. They searched all over to find the subject. Though they believe that the gene also lets the host blend into society. All they could hope for is that the final stage of transformation would stall.

Day 1

"Reina! Turn that damn thing down!" A voice was faintly heard from down the stairs. Guitar wails and screeches echoed through the two story home. The guitar was being played by a 18 year-old girl. Last year of high school, but she had to stay back for failing senior year last year. Her skin was a creamy tan color. She had short brown hair that had red tips and reached to her ears. Reina was her name with a black flaming dice tattoo on her back under her neck. She often wore black tank tops, camouflaged pants that were too big, and a studded metal belt to hold them up. She finally turned down the volume of her amp and opened the door of her 'closet.'
"Yo?" Reina called downstairs.
"Keep it down! We have neighbors you know!" Her mother shouted up the stairs hallway.
"Reggie is here by the way." She added.
Reina put her guitar on her bed and bolted down the slippery wooden stairs.
"Hey Regg." She spoke to the tall guy sitting at the kitchen table. He was at least 19, still in high school like herself. His hair was brown and short, like a buzz cut but left his irresistible side burns. A studded collar adorned his neck thought it couldn't take the girls around the school's eyes off of his built torso. Reina sighed and shook her head.
"You really need to stop wearing those muscle shirts."
"Why?" He grinned and looked at Reina looking at the small blush on her face.
Reina growled. "I'm going to smack that look off your face one of these days!" She threatened in a swatting motion towards Reggie's head.
"Anyway, ready for the senior assembly?"
"Why do we have to go? I've been to it so many times." Reina complained.
"One more wouldn't hurt." Reggie stood up and walked upstairs. "C'mon, lets get 'Big Red' and go to school because you can't find a babysitter for your baby." He laughed.
"But I love my baby~!" Reina bolted back upstairs to get her guitar. Reggie grabbed the padded guitar case and slid the guitar inside. Reina stood in the doorway of her cluttered room.
"What's that face for?" Reggie put the guitar over his shoulder.
"You're still kissing up to me for beating the s**t out of that guy huh?" Reina growled moving to the side so Reggie could pass.
"C'mon, we've been friends since grade school! Friends!" He chuckled and watched Reina grab the guitar from off his shoulder.
"My baby, you *****!" She puncehd his shoulder and walked down stairs. Reggie rubbed his shoulder and laughed following her down the stairs.

The clouds lightened and the rain slowed to a stop. Students were being filed into the auditorium like being sucked into a vacuum. Reina and Reggie sat next to each other and watched the principle walk onto the stage along with a guidance counselor and a few translators for the deaf.
"Class of '08, I know this might seem like a routine to you know, but you need to start thinking about college." Reina yawned and rested her head in her hand. Reggie shook his head and sighed.
"You are terrible, no wonder you didn't graduate, you have the attention span of a peanut."
"Hey~ don't be hatin'." She stuck her pierced tongue out. Reggie stuck his pierced tongue out as well and the both stifled a laugh. The reason they both had pierced tongues was an agreement they made. If one was going to get a pierced tongue, they'd do it together.
"So when is this thing over anyway?" Reina asked.
"A few hours longer." Reggie shifted in his seat and put his hands behind his head.
"Dammit. Out of all the days, today had to be a senior meeting on 'Senior Skip Day.' I can't believe you go to school on senior skip day!" Reina shook Reggie's arm.
"Ok, ok. Maybe I'll skip a day with you."
"Yay! Reggie's a rebel again!"
"Meh." Reggie smiled slightly.

When the assembly was over students filed out.
"Yes~! Finally we're out!" Reina stretched her arms over her head. The two walked past an alley on their way to the usual hangout. Reina blinked and noticed a shadowy figure glide across the alley and jumped to the roof. Her mouth cracked open and she rubbed her eyes.
"What the hell?" She whispered under her breath. Reggie walked over and blinked at her reaction. He waved a hand in front of her.
"Yo, you alright? Last time your face looked like that was hen you first listened to me sing." He chuckled. "Seriously, what's wrong?"
Reina blinked and snapped out of her trance.
"Someone just pulled a Spiderman... And jumped onto that building." She pointed upwards.
"Doubt someone could do that... C'mon Rei."
Reggie grabbed Reina's hand and pulled her away from the alley.
