Chapter 1
The sun had barely risen when a herd of camels appeared far out in the sand dunes. On their backs were packages of the best crops from the sun lands, Jewels from the moon lands, and other unique things. They were presents for a newborn princess. Though most things aren't for babies, she will get them when she's older. "So, what's this Child’s name?" One guard asked. "Yamie if I heard correctly" another said while swinging his sword around. He was practicing in case someone tries to steal the presents. "Yamie usagi, eh? I'm guessing she has the eyes of destruction, seeing that she was born on a full moon." Said the first guard. When they reached the village, everyone was cheering. Some people chanted "long live the princess!" The Usagi banner hung from fruit stands and tent windows. Blue and gold streamers hung above the streets. A girl of about 6 walked up to a camel and placed a doll on top of some jewels. "To the princess," She said, and then she ran off. The mahala doors opened and allowed the guards into the throne room. A baby crib stood between two gold thrones. In the crib was a sleeping newborn baby. She had blood-red hair and a cat tail. No cat ears, which meant she had the eyes of destruction. "Told you." Whispered the first guard as he walked up to the king. His cat ears bent down as he bowed and said," For the princess, your majesty!" The king laughed, his ears pointing up and his tail swaying just slightly. "You're early! We weren't expecting you til noon. For you to come all the way from the border must mean you started the trip early. You must have traveled all night." "Anything for the little princess, sir!" He glanced again at the princess. Little cat ears were on her head and she was slowly becoming a kitten. "Ah, I see the new moon is waning." "It is indeed. Did you bring a blindfold?" "Yes." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a golden piece of cloth. "It is gold with beads made of rubies. Apparently from the family guardian." "Family guardian, huh? Shall you put it on her?" "Me? But, I'm just a guard." "Yes, which means you protect our family. I can trust you." "...OK......" He walked up to the crib. The princess was already a little black kitten. The guard reached out to cover her eyes, but just as he did that, Yamie opened her eyes. The guard backed up, for anyone who has the eyes of destruction can kill a person just by looking at them. A cry came from behind, and the guard realized that he wasn't the one she was looking at. He spun around to see another guard on the ground, blood coming from his nose onto the wood floor. "Darien!" yelled a younger guard. But it was no use. Darien was dead. The king rose from his throne and started towards his daughter. "Don’t!" Someone cried out. "You'll be killed!" The king kept going. "Someone has to cover her eyes..." Suddenly a cloaked figure jumped down from a window. He walked up to the guard. "May I see that blindfold?" He asked. Speechless, the guard handed the blindfold over to the figure. The figure then walked up to the princess. She turned from the dead guard to the cloaked figure, just as he tied the blindfold on her. "How did you-" The king managed to say just as the figure ran off. The king was speechless. It was silent, until the queen cleared her throat. "I know who that was..." She said. "Who was it?" The king asked, reluctantly. "The family guardian"
Shi Yume was slacking off at work. He was distracted by the news of the newborn princess. "Shi!" called the head chef. "Get back to work!" "Oh, sorry. It's just, with all the noise outside, I’m sure the little princess is cute." Shi sighed. "She must be! She probably looks like her mother when she was a baby." another chef said as he left the room. Shi glanced out the window and went back to work.
Little Yamie Struggled against the blindfold, trying to pull it off her eyes. For a moment, she did start to pull it off, but then a guard stopped her and tightened it again. Suddenly, a flute started playing, followed by a trumpet and a violin. The party had finally started, and people started to pour into the throne room. "Oh, she's so cute!" said one woman to another. "What an adorable blindfold." the woman whispered back. "Careful, though. If she takes it off, we'd be in big danger." said a guy from behind her. Yamie got tired of struggling against the blindfold and started to fall asleep again, but quickly woke back up with the noise that started around her. The Queen picked her up and started rocking her. The Queen's sister came up holding Yamie's older cousin, Shan. Shan was only two months older than Yamie. He had the same black fur. "I'm sure these two will get along great." she said. A cloud of dust was starting to swirl around Shan. "Looks like he's hungry." the Queen said. "You might want to feed him before he gets madder." The feast that day was the best feast the Sands of Death had so far. There was Rice curry, Chicken, tea, and a lot more. At the end of the party, Yamie fell asleep.
