A soft breath of wind whispered through the town. It rustled leaves in the treetops and created small waves on the lake bordering the town's east side. The waves lapped against a wooden boat dock, sending a liget spray into the night air. On this dock, with her feet dangling over the edge, sat a girl, a mere fourteen years of age. Her long golden blond hair shone in the light of the full moon. Her blue eyes gazed across the lake at a cluster of houses, dimly lit by the bright moon. Ah, Bincs, she thought to herself, you know they won't be out tonight. They don't want to be seen, and in this light, anyone looking out their window could see them. Sighing, she stood. She had been hoping to catch a glimpse of Molly and Gerry, two of her classmates, meeting in the night. Or, rather, a better glimpse. She could hardly tell who they were when the moon was small, and those were the nights she could easily sneak out on. She turned and began to walk towards solid ground. She had scarcely stepped onto dry land when a flashilight snapped on in her face. "Well, well, well. If it isn't little Bianca, out for a midnight stroll, perhaps?" a cruel voice rang out. "Or, perhaps, is she trying to spy? Oh, yes, that must be it." Bianca swore under her breath. Once again, Molly had snuck up on her. If only she had been paying attention. But no, it would not have mattered; there was no place she could have gone, save the icy lake. "Don't call me little!" Bianca said forcefully. "Just because I'm younger than you, it doesn't mean you can call me little. I'm just as big as you!" Fury clouded her vision. She blinked once. And she was back on the edge of the dock, her feet hanging over the lake. Gosh darn it! she thought. This is driving me crazy! I can't even tell when it's real or not anymore. Carefully, she stood, but before moving, she listened. Not a sound broke the night's silence, save the water's splash. Bianca crept cautiously along the dock, ears listening attentively for any noise out of place. Nothing. Relieved, she raaced home. It would be best if she were safe at home, where she could call out for her mother if things got too bad.
Riviting, no? Who is this Bianca character? Why did she have a momentary lapse? Those questions will be answered soon, most likely in part 2. But until then...
