crypto post draft
Okay , i have been doing a little bit of research .
From the few sites i have read :
NFTs in their current form are a bad idea because of people stealing art. Basically , if you buy art as part of an NFT that money does not ( necessarily ) go to the artist . And there is whole bunch of legal issues , with DMCAs , copyright and so on.
My conclusion ? if you want to support artists (and websites like Gaia ) , there are already ways to do so. Like , Patreon ( and other sites ) for artists . And currently GCash/subscryptions for Gaia.
If you want to do it as an investment ? IDK . You want a get rich quick sort of deal ? IDK , that either.
The following are articles i glanced at or read today . FYI
FYI : NFTs explained ( for the most part , i skimmed it . You be the judge ) https://www.theverge.com/22310188/nft-explainer-what-is-blockchain-crypto-art-faq
On the environment : There were too many websites , proposing it . Which makes me think that it's SUS. Or just FUD , by big money actors trying to scare people away from crypto.
I say that because , it got me thinking as i glanced through the titles of all these articles .
Damage to environment = bad . Okay. Yeah , how ? articles proceed to tell me about energy consumption . Okay, But , what about credit cards / debit cards ? Isn't one of the reasons credit cards have a surge charge, is because they have to pay for THEIR servers and " processing " ? Then i remembered : What about coins ? and paper money ?
I did not see one article that directly compared the two . Then i thought : if these " crypto miners " were to switch to solar , wouldn't that fix the problem ?
The closest i could find on regular money was this : https://slate.com/technology/2009/04/is-cash-better-for-the-environment-than-a-credit-card.html
I think i found the original study the environment thing is based on : https://dash.harvard.edu/bitstream/handle/1/37365412/MARTYNOV-DOCUMENT-2020.pdf?sequence=1
I have seen some comments that crypto is a scam or a ponzi. From what i've read and seen over the years. No it's not. IF the US GOV recognizes that crypto currency is a thing . And acknowledges it as a legitimate investment . Then , no it's not a ponzi. BUT , US GOV also warns that it CAN be used as ponzi scheme. https://www.sec.gov/investor/alerts/ia_virtualcurrencies.pdf
These article explains the difference : ( they do have Bias FYI ) https://medium.com/revain/the-differences-between-bitcoins-and-the-ponzi-scheme-fe7a7acea3a7 https://www.swanbitcoin.com/why-bitcoin-is-not-a-ponzi-scheme-point-by-point/
other papers regarding crypto : (TLDR , At a glance they are about HOW "cryto" can be implemented , how they work ) https://wedocs.unep.org/bitstream/handle/20.500.11822/34226/FB019.pdf?sequence=1&isAllowed=y https://jods.mitpress.mit.edu/pub/7vxemtm3/release/2 This one gives a little history : https://tarjomefa.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/9121-English-TarjomeFa.pdf https://archive.org/details/bitcoin_20171228.
