So tonight I went with some of the members from the club i'm Historian for at my school to learn about bone marrow donations. Currently of all the bone marrow donars [i don't know if it's the US or the world, but from the way the DVD sounded, it only covered the US], only 7% are asian. This means that if you're asian and you get leukemia, you're not going to have much of a chance of finding a donor. Most donors match better with patients if they're of the same nationality, which is why tomorrow i'm going to help promote asian and minority students to come register to donate. I've already registered and i feel special. why? because i'm the most minority of them all! i'm half japanese and half white! OWN!!! XD!!!
But seriously. If anyone ever reads this and you get the chance to register, you should. you could help save a life and it's painless. the only thing that'd hurt is when they take a blood sample to see if you're the right kind of donor. when they actually take the donation [that's only if they find someone that your bone marrow matches] you're numb so you don't feel a thing. we have witnesses who have already donated with their comments on it. they didn't feel anything. one of them actually went mountain biking four days after donating. lol. that kinda' shows that it's not all that hard.
and just think of things this way. if you're female, you tolerate pain a lot better than males. lol.
