Vulcankitty's Starlog, stardate 200502.23 (2/23/05)
heart heart heart WEEEEE!!!!!!! I got my Bajoran earring!!!!! heart heart heart
I ordered it from the Star Trek Experience site a few days ago. I'm wearing it right now.
The Bajoran earring is a religious icon in the Bajoran culture. It has a part that clips to the top part of the right ear, a part that clips to the lobe, and a chain that connects the two.
In other news, I am now the secretary for my school's Academic Decathalon team. Last year (when I wasn't in it) the team was in last place. This year we got 4th out of 14. I was the 3rd highest scorer on the team. I won the office because I was there to do my campaign and my opponent wasn't, I made posters, and I brought food! (nutmeg bread, to be precise)
Besides those bits of news, I don't have much to say. Maybe I'll go off and do my homework. Then again, maybe not...

Vulcankitty's Starlog, stardate 200502.21 (2/21/05)
I thought I'd talk about how I got obsessed about Star Trek.
When I was younger (about 2nd grade) I would watch the Original Series marathons on the sci-fi channel with my mom and younger sister. As the years went by the marathons were on less and less and eventually Star Trek was gone from my life. Or so I thought.
In between freshman and sophomore years, I was flipping through the channels and happened to see something familiar. It was an episode of the Original Series! I studied the TV Guide for whenever Star Trek was on. I checked books out of the library and read them fervently. I noticed there was another series, the Next Generation on Spike TV, but I decided not to involve myself in a new crew. One day at the library I was in a hurry and accidently took a Next Generation book. I decided to watch the show first to see what the crew was like. Soon, I was hooked on both series. When I discovered Spike TV was going to show another series, Deep Space Nine, I had high hopes. And DS9 didn't disapppoint me. I was in love! I had found in DS9 a higher quantity and quality of what I loved about TOS and TNG.
In the summer of 2004, my mom, sister, and I went to a Star Trek convention in Las Vegas. We got our pictures with William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy and got autographs from Wil Wheaton, Max Grodenchik, Chase Masterson, and Cirroc Lofton. We saw Nana Visitor, Kate Mulgrew, and Colm Meaney. We experienced the Klingon Encounter and the Borg Invasion rides. We ate at Quark's Bar and strolled down the Promanade, exploring the shops.
For my sixteenth birthday, I had a Star Trek-themed party. We made a videotape beforehand playing out a scenario in which all the guests had contracted a virus and we had to find a cure. Each activity, like a tribble hunt, a pH testing, and others had a clue to the cure. We had hasperat (actually burritos), Klingon bloodwine (fruit juice), and Romulan ale (drinks with blue food coloring). My friends aren't into Star Trek, but they understand how obsessed with it I am. (at least they thought the homemade tribbles were cute...)
So now I am a high school junior (it all happened so fast). I can't wait for Voyager to come on Spike TV and I am enjoying Enterprise's last season (but what a season! Andorians, Tellarites, Orion slave girls, the mirror universe, and the Klingon forehead question resolved). I understand the world may need a hiatus from Star Trek, but as for me, I will spend my time watching, reading, learning, and living Star Trek.
Now I'm sure you're tired of me ranting about (I bet you just skipped down here) but there will probably be more of this in the future so you are forewarned.
To shift the topic, last night I watched the movie Big Fish with my friends. The movie was okay (I would have prefered somethng sci-fi, fantasy, Jane Austen, musical, ...). The important thing was being with my friends. I got to play pool for the first time (and lost, but got two balls in!). Maybe next time we can play poker like the officers on TNG...
Well, I think that's probably enough for now.
