• CHAPTER 69 - THE GRANDPARENTS

    Uh-oh, here come the grandparents.

It was when I heard myself starting to snore that I woke myself up. And it took me to wake up to realize I was shivering after lying on Kai's cold, hard torso. I sighed and rubbed my eye, adjusting to the little natural light that ebbed into the bedroom. I stopped myself in slight confusion as I could feel something moving up and down underneath my head. I turned my head and held my breath as soon as I saw Kai's still sleeping face above me. My head was still on his torso; no wonder my neck was so stiff. I had been sleeping in one position the whole time.

    "Kai?" I mumbled, half asleep.

Kai didn't move an inch, next to his torso lugging up and down in rhythm. He hadn't moved the whole time either. This was probably the deepest sleep I've ever seen him in. He still had the same peaceful complexion and the same enamoring features all about him. I looked around the room, seeing nobody had interfered our slumber and nobody replaced anything in the room. I peeked over at the alarm clock once more and it was already four thirteen in the afternoon. I'm always one to sleep in late and take long naps, so it didn't come as too much of a shock for me. But with Kai, he never sleeps this much. I blinked a few times to get the tired out of my system and stroked the sleeping Momo's head once I realized he was curled up against Kai's other side.

"Kai, I think we need to get up," I whispered.

He still didn't move. I sighed, overtaken by awe. I rested my head on his torso again and pulled away as soon as something wet smeared on my chin. I pat on Kai's shirt and kicked myself internally as I realized it was my own drool puddle that I spilled all over Kai's godly self. I was cursing and torturing myself as I tried to pat the drool pool dry but with little success. I shivered again as soon as I felt something twitch on my lower back. I looked over my shoulder and sighed while rolling my eyes as I noticed Kai's limp arm around my waist and his fingertips peeking into the bottom of my shirt. I frowned and sighed again, too nice to freak out on him.

"Idiot," I whispered with a small smile in my face.

I figured I should be a little more respectful and remove Kai's shirt in order to rid him of the drool pool I disrespectfully sprawled all over his chest. Without even thinking, I unbuttoned the rest of his shirt all the way and opened his shirt completely. I paused as soon as I realized I couldn't slip his arms out of the sleeves so easily and my face immediately heated up as soon as Kai's bare torso shone in the sunlight. I started panicking, wondering what I should do with his shirt. I couldn't just leave it on him! That's rude of me to leave drool on his shirt! I didn't even have the common sense to button his shirt back up, so I kept it as it was, all opened and exposing him. I gently--yet quickly--removed his arm from my waist and sat up.

I heard a faint knocking at the door and gasped, almost knocking myself off of the bed as well, "Arisa? Kai?" it was Matsuda.

"Um, it's just me. Kai is sleeping." I whispered, knowing Matsuda could hear me anyways.

"There are guests here," Matsuda said cheerfully. "You should get dressed and come see them."

Guests? Who would be visiting us? I shrugged and turned back around to face Kai again. If I didn't know any better, I'd think he was in a coma with how still he was sleeping and how peaceful he looked--especially his manly appearance with little Momo curled up with him. I smiled faintly and leaned down and pecked him on the cheek. I slowly climbed off of the bed and picked out some fresh clothes to put on since the ones I was just sleeping in were all wrinkled now. I snuck out of the bedroom and into the bathroom and dressed myself quickly. I grabbed a brush and adjusted my hair and as soon as I exited the bathroom--after throwing my clothes down the chute I'm in love with--I was greeted by Kira and his mouthful of cupcakes.

    "Uh--"

"Well, hi!" Kira greeted me, shoving another chocolate cupcake in his mouth.

"Um, how are you enjoying those cupcakes?" I asked him.

"Oh my God!" Kira sighed. "They are goddamn amazing!"

"Hush!" I pressed my finger against Kira's lips. "Don't wake Kai!" I whispered harshly.

"Oh, don't worry," Kira chuckled and rolled his eyes. "He sleeps like he's dead when he's this tired."

    "Um...he is dead, though, right?"

"Yup," Kira smiled. "Kind of a lame joke, I know."

I pat Kira on the back and complimented him for giving his best effort and we both headed downstairs. Halfway down, I managed to snag a cupcake from Kira. It was easier than I had thought, seeing as Kira can't read minds so he can't see what I'm intending to do. Kira started throwing a hissy fit but got over it as soon as I threatened to remove the cupcakes for good.

"You know, when Miku sees those cupcakes, you're going to have to share," I lectured Kira.

"Why?" Kira cocked an eyebrow at me.

"She just got done having a baby," I rolled my eyes. "And from what I was told in health class--years ago--women's cravings are still...awkward, I guess."

"Oh," Kira held a cupcake and observed it. "So she'll pretty much gnaw my head off without clemency if I refuse to give anything?"

"Pretty much," I smiled at Kira.

We snuck into Takeuchi's room and as soon as I turned around, I about screamed "stranger danger" and just about ran out the door as well. I opted to stay, though, in the off chance that I'd snag another cupcake from Kira. Takeuchi turned around and smiled at us upon our entrance and next to him were two adults standing by the bed.

"Arisa! You live!" Takeuchi laughed at me.

I beamed and glared at Kira when he chuckled next to me. I switched my attention to the two adults standing near the bed, "Who are they?"

"Oh," Takeuchi said in surprise. "These are Miku's parents."

"Oh!" I rushed to them and shook their hands vigorously. "I'm Arisa! I'm Miku's friend!" I didn't know why I was freaking out.

"Are you, now?" Miku's mother cocked her head. "You're Arisa?"

    I smiled, "Yup,"

"Thank you so much for helping with Miku's birth," her mother--Mrs. Yamaguchi--smiled at me warmly.

"It's no problem," I smiled back. "My stomach didn't agree with my decision, though." I giggled.

"Oh, cupcakes!!" Miku exclaimed, freaking me out and causing me to jump.

"Oh, man!" Kira complained. "It's like she has super senses or something!"

Miku said a few choice words to Kira and--after her parents lectured her--was honored with three mini chocolate cupcakes. She scarfed them down as quick as Kira did and sighed. Kira sighed as he consumed the last cupcake in that plastic box.

"So, Miku," Mrs. Yamaguchi turned to Miku. "How is it you broke your pelvis and your ribs?"

"I already told you, mom," Miku rolled her eyes. "I lost my footing in the stairs while I was sleepwalking."

Miku sleepwalks? Now that she's temporarily immobile, I wonder how she sleeps now, now that she can't sleepwalk. After Mr. and Mrs. Yamaguchi lectured Miku over sleepwalking, it was their time to see the baby. Takeuchi gently and stealthily pulled Toshihiro out of the crib and I gazed in awe at seeing Toshihiro's sleeping face. That baby sure sleeps a lot. Takeuchi carefully handed Toshihiro to Mrs. Yamaguchi and she cradled him close in her arms. She gazed at Toshihiro with as much awe as I was. Mr. Yamaguchi smiled and pat Takeuchi on the shoulder, congratulating him. I was surprised that they didn't feel any resentment or hate towards Takeuchi for getting Miku pregnant at such a young age. Probably because they have been going out for years, so it's bound to happen sooner or later.

I gasped at sudden realization and freaked out, Takeuchi! What if they stick their fingers in Toshihiro's mouth?! They will know something is up by then! I yelled at Takeuchi in my head.

Relax, Takeuchi answered, smiling, it's nearly impossible to wake Toshihiro, so he won't bite if your finger is in his mouth. Besides, you're probably the only person that sticks their finger in a baby's mouth, he chuckled.

"Oh, funny," I sneered at Takeuchi.

Takeuchi smiled again and he perked up after another second, "Kai's here,"

I immediately rushed out of the bedroom and as soon as I made it out of the doorway, I could have sworn I crashed with a building wall but it was only Kai. I looked up at him while rubbing my suddenly sore--and broken-felt--neck. Kai looked down at me in confusion as I kept repeating "ow" over and over again.

"That stupid dog didn't tell me you were right outside the door," I hissed to myself.

    "What?" Kai asked.

"Miku's parents are here," I changed the subject.

"I know," Kai admitted. "I could smell them."

"Did we wake you?" I asked him. "If we did, you can go back to sleep."

"No," Kai sighed. "I woke up after apprehending your absence."

"Oh?" I cocked an eyebrow at him. "How so?"

    Kai chuckled, "I got cold,"

"That's bullshit," I laughed at him. "You are the cold."

"I know, but since you were gone," Kai pointed out, "your warmth went with you."

"That wasn't totally cheesy or anything," I accused sarcastically, rolling my eyes. I grabbed Kai's hand and urged him to come with me. "Come on."

We went into Takeuchi's room and this time, Mr. Yamaguchi was cradling Toshihiro in his arms. Everybody turned their attention to Kai and I and I smiled nervously, uncomfortable at all of the pairs of eyes.

I squeezed Kai's hand and leaned against him timidly, "Uh, this is Kai,"

"Oh, yes, of course," Mrs. Yamaguchi smiled. "We have met him before."

"Oh," I beamed in embarrassment. Kai could have told me that.

Mrs. Yamaguchi took notice of our holding of hands, our closeness, and my enamoring engagement ring and raised an eyebrow, "How long have you two been married?"

"Not married!!" I immediately shouted. "I'm a virgin, I swear!"

"I'm sorry," Mrs. Yamaguchi apologized, probably a little freaked out.

"We're not married," Kai rolled his eyes, "just engaged."

"That's wonderful!" Mrs. Yamaguchi smiled widely. "When is the wedding?"

Kai and I both paused for a long time, at a loss, "We don't know," I laughed nervously.

"You should let us know when you find out," Mrs. Yamaguchi smiled again. "How old are you, Arisa?"

"Um," I looked up at Kai hesitantly and he nodded subtly to me, encouraging me to tell her. "I'm seventeen."

"That's a little young, don't you agree?" Mrs. Yamaguchi cocked her head. She waved her hand up and down. "I don't think Miku has much room to speak. She's sixteen and has a baby."

"That baby was made out of love!" Miku shouted dramatically, pretending to cry.

"A little too much love," Kira snorted under his breath.

"Shut up, buttface," Miku hissed at Kira.

After another hour to two hours of getting to know the Yamaguchi family a little more, it was time for them to head out. Mrs. Yamaguchi didn't want to unhand Toshihiro, much like me, because he was just too adorable. Takeuchi and Mr. Yamaguchi managed to pry the still sleeping Toshihiro from her arms and Takeuchi handed him to Miku who, as always, sprawled him on her chest. Mr. and Mrs. Yamaguchi hugged and kissed Miku goodbye and hugged Takeuchi goodbye. They slipped thier coats on and we lead them to the front door. They were both incredibly upset at having to leave Miku and Takeuchi and Toshihiro, but they knew it would be hard to move Miku with the state she's in. And after they congratulated me over Kai's and mine engagement, they left. It felt like too short of a visit, but I was glad I met them. They were so nice and had to problem with Miku having a baby so young.

"They're so nice," I smiled at Kai after he shut the front door.

"Yeah, but they miss Miku infallibly," Kai sighed.

"I would imagine so," I agreed. "She's been here for a while now and she can't go home yet. And she'll be moving out in a couple of years."

"But it's all for the better," Kai smiled at me lightly.

"Yeah, I guess you're right," I agreed again. "Hey, where did Matsuda and Orihime go? They were here right when I woke up but now they're gone."

"Grocery shopping," Kai rolled his eyes. He slid one quick hand around my waist and at the bottom of my back. "Now..."

    "Y-yeah?" I asked nervously, blushing.

Kai pushed me back gently against the wall and kissed the angle of my jaw; he was thirsty, "Make it quick," I sighed.

"You know, when I do this..." Kai kissed my jaw again, "I'm not consistently dehydrated."

"That's what it always leads to," I rolled my eyes.

"That's something I can't always dicipline," he sighed, his cool breath cruising over my skin.

"I'm not saying I mind," I argued lightly. "I'm just saying."

"Now that you mention it," Kai sighed, "I am somewhat dehydrated."

"Go ahead," I offered with a light smile.

I had barely finished my sentence before Kai plunged his fangs into my flesh. He pressed his hand that was not on my back against the wall next to me and drank deeply. The sound of the blood rushing down his throat made me gag slightly and I took deep, subtle breaths. The blood was trickling down my chest and seeping into my clothes, but not too much. After the sting of the bite dissipated, I concentrated on relaxing and allowing Kai to take as much as desired. I still didn't know why, but I seem to always become enticed when Kai bites me. For normal humans, they would be trembling with fear, begging for mercy--if they didn't know the attacker. But for me, it's almost a habit now. A bad habit.

I was losing myself in my train of thought until I caught Kai taking a deep breath while drinking--he's too dehydrated. If he wouldn't take a breath, he'd accidentally become immortal from drinking too much. I gently ran my fingers through his hair and continued to wait. The seconds went by like hours and I was starting to feel a little lighter. I could have been drifting off into sleep or on the verge of passing out, but that feeling was soon demolished as I felt something cold swipe over my bottom. I froze and screeched as soon as I felt it was Kai's hand on my bottom.

I started hitting his shoulders and yelling at him to get off of me. As soon as he did, I slapped him again--making my hand sting and not phasing Kai--and he only laughed, "Pervert, let go!" his hand was still glued to the same spot.

"Relax," Kai smiled. "It's just a little booty touch."

That was some vocabulary I had never heard Kai use...nor would I ever think he would use, "It's more like a booty grab, you freak!"

"Come on, in a relationship, you need to bend the boundaries a little," he kissed my head after wiping the blood off of his mouth.

"But Kai--" I started complaining before he kissed my forehead.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," he apologized. "I should have known better."

"It-it just took me by surprise." I blushed. "But I-I felt some sort of enticement." I looked away and blushed heavier.

    Kai chuckled, "Cute,"

"Miku's parents were nice," I changed the subject with a smile. "They seem to approve of Takeuchi."

"Definitely," Kai thought for a moment. "Humor me; would your parents permit me?"

I giggled, giggled a little more, and then it escalated into laughter, "They would exorcise you before you walk onto the driveway!"

"It was just a thought," Kai shrugged.

"A pretty frivolous thought," I giggled again.

"Well, then," Kai slid his hand down my back again and grabbed me once more.

I instantly slapped Kai again and gripped his hair with both of my hands and lowered his face to mine, "Stop it!"

"Okay, okay, I'll stop," Kai laughed again.

I continued to stare--rather than glare--at Kai. Kai seemed to settle down a little bit and he gazed at me, but he wasn't musing like I was. He burrowed his eyebrows together and sighed.

"What's on your mind?" he asked me.

He obviously was training himself to migrate from my mind. In a way, I loved it like no other, and in other ways, it kind of frustrated me that he wouldn't want to know what I was thinking. I don't know why I was thinking so deeply about it, but I was. What would my parents do, knowing I'm engaged to a Vampire? Wouldn't they want to get the chance to know him after seeing how in love we are? They can't possibly think all Vampires are bad. What if they wouldn't consider it and they would exorcise him right away? And Akatsuki...

Kai continued to stare at me in curiosity. I shook my head lightly and pecked his lips and pulled back a little, "Nothing. Just a thought."
