I put my head on my chest and felt truly happy, “My life may be a dramatic show, but…” I lowered my voice to my small voice, “but I love you.”
I smiled knowing it caught him off guard, “Hey, you wanted me to fall for you and I did, its not my fault our relationship is messed up.” I coughed, “Why is it cold?” When he didn’t answer after I spoke I looked up, his face was surprisingly angry. I sat up, “Okay so now I love you and now let me guess you don’t love me.” He shook his head still not speaking. I threw my hands up and put my feet on the floor, it was still freezing. “Were are you going?” Oh he speaks! “To turn on the heater, I don’t know why you guys didn’t.”
I went to my closet and pulled on an indigo sweater and grabbed a pair of socks and sat my bed and slipped them on. “The heater broke last night and the air condition freaked out and just went to the lowest number.” I sighed and stood up and walked to my door. I looked at the wall clock outside my room five twenty-six it read. I sighed the coldest time of the day, top that with our stupid luck you’ve got a bad day. I shuffled down the hall to Emma’s room. I didn’t even knock, I looked in to see her not there. I shook my head and rolled my eyes. I walked down to the study, and of course Emma was there. She had made the place more homey. She put posters up of people she idled, there were couches from her old home, and she added a round crimson rug. I leaned in the doorway, she was laying on the couch in front of the fireplace. I walked to her and sat next to her. She moved and laid her head on my shoulder. I put my arm around her, “Emma, I know you. You knew what the immortal spray was didn’t you? You would have read my dad’s notes and look up the word.”
She sighed, “I did…I figured that you would be happy, and that I could do the experiment.” I smiled and my eyes started to water I blinked them back. I hugged her and patted her head, “Thank you. Can you do the same for me?”
She shot up and looked at me, “Why?”
“I don’t want to live forever if I cant live with the two people I care the most about.” She started to cry and threw her arms around my neck and sobbed into my neck. I rubbed her back and shushed her, her tears soaked my sweater, “Ems, look at me.” She looked at me, her eyes red from crying and the tears still flowed lightly. I pulled my sleeve over my hand and wiped her eyes, “This is not the moment to cry.” That’s all I said and she tried to compose herself. Once she did she walked over to a locked cabinet and pulled a chain with a key on it and unlocked the cabinet door. She pulled out the bottle she looked at me uncertainly. It felt like one of those moments in a movie were the scary music should be playing. I smiled and walked over to her I looked down at the desk and saw her handwriting and my father’s. She put her delicate finger on the spray, I heard the music ringing in my ears. Right on cue Damon walked in. Emma breathed a sigh of relief, he looked at us, “Whats going on.” I flashed a panicked look at Emma and she quickly walked to my side whispering, “confusion.” I nodded ever so slightly and looked at Damon and did a sweet smile, “Well, we thought we heard a hurricane. Then we realized it wasn’t. Then we deiced to clean, but uh…uh…we were down here so we just deiced to grab a bottle of some sort of spray to exam.” I looked at Emma she looked at Damon, “Yeah what Jay said.” I nudged her.
“What?” The confusion worked.
“What?”
“Jayne stop, what are you talking about?”
“I told you.”
“Oh never mind.” Yup, I loved the way Emma and I worked.
We walked out quickly and Emma placed the bottle under the desk. We smiled at each other and I put a finger up and poked my head in the door, “Haha love ya.”
I came out and Emma and I did our handshake. We walked to the front door and Emma pulled the door it didn’t budge. I laughed, “Ems you are to weak.” I was known to be strong. I pulled the knob and twisted it. I was about to kick the door, but Damon’s hands were on my shoulder, “The radio said that there was a storm last night and it froze up the locks on some doors or something.”
“WHAT?!” Emma and I turned around and looked at him…
