Q = What is Sea Cadets?
A = Cadets is a federally-sponsored program for young Canadians ages 12 to 19 who are interested in participating in a variety of challenging and rewarding activities, and learning more about the Canadian Forces
Q = So, what's the basic commitment?
A = Local training - Cadets participate in training on a weekly basis during the regular school year (Sept - June) on an average of one night a week, plus optional weekend training depending on their interests
Q= You go to camp? 0_0
A = Yep! ^^ There are a total of 4 sea cadet summer training centres (SCSTC) located across Canada. Approximately 5,000 course cadets receive training each year.
I have been to all of these Acadia, located in Nova Scotia, Avalon in Newfoundland...Ontario in...well, Ontario. And Quadra in British Columbia.(woot for me? )
Q = Um...what do you do at camp?
A = Sea cadet training is divided into four distinctive trade groups; each comprises three levels. Cadets are given an opportunity to choose the trade stream that most interest them. Once the cadet has entered the trade stream they follow it for the next three years. The following is a general overview of the four trades available.
Boatswain: duties of the watch on deck, motor boat operations, navigation, a sea phase of 3 to 6 days duration, sea survival in a life raft, shipboard fire fighting, small boat and sail repair, small arms training (air rifle), service whaler pulling and sailing, powerboat operations, shipboard ceremonial duties, sports, first aid, instructional technique and leadership training.
Gunnery: bush survival and adventure training, drill with arms, drill commands, field exercises 2 to 8 days in duration, map and compass reading, naval ceremonies, naval field gun drill, physical fitness training, radio procedures, search and rescue, sports, first aid, instructional technique and leadership training.
Music: band, music levels from basic to level V, instrument maintenance, technique, intonation, ear testing, sight reading, music theory, band drill, ensemble, conducting, sports, first aid, instructional technique and leadership training.
Sailing: coaching level I (theory), powerboat operation, small boat rescue training, life saving fitness, Canadian Yachting Association sailing levels (White Sail to Green Instructor), sports, first aid, instructional technique, and leadership training.
Q = So...what do you DO?
A = Sea Cadets learn about naval traditions through participation in a variety of activities on-and-off the water. They specialize in sailing, seamanship, shipboard life, naval communications, power boat handling, boat repair, marine engineering, tall ship training and ship deployments
We also learn all of these:
(The following subjects are part of the program)
Bushcraft
Citizenship
Drill
Marksmanship
Physical Fitness
Sailing
Sea Cadet Routine
Naval Knowledge
Seamanship
Leadership
Instructional Techniques
Q = No, I mean...what do YOU do...?
A = Oh, lol...I am in the band. Yes sir-ee. See this instrument?
-laughs at cartoon-
Sorry, I'll try to find another pic, but they are hard to find.
It's called a glockenspiel. It is what I play, but I also can play snare and bass drum. Basically, you can only get glock training at Acadia...and I havn't been there is three years...-sadness-
Q = What do you guys look like?
A = Most of us? Sexy! XD

Can you say random?
"I may seem like an unlikely survivor what with all my phobias and irritable bowel syndrome. But I have the advantage of having no friends or close family. And I play by the rules. My rules. "
