Duvessa waited until the sun had set and darkness blanketed the world to sneak out of the castle. She grabbed a few last things, including a small dagger and some apple fritters for her and Pierce. She looked around at her royally decorated room of gold and crimson, she was glad to leave such prefection behind. Happiness bubbled within her. Then something else surfaced, she wasn't sure what the feeling was, but it made her feel slightly sad. She went to her desk and scribbled out a note on a piece of parchment and rolled it up. Then she sighed and left the room for the last time.
Duvessa walked down the hallway and stopped infront of her mothers room. Silently, she placed the parchment on the floor, followed by the ruby necklace that she had worn around her neck since birth and had marked her as a royal faerie.
"Bye Mother," Duvessa whispered, as she turned to walk away, she thought she heard the door open, but Duvessa didn't look back. Her life was all about to change.
Pierce was waiting for Duvessa in the stables. She was taking longer then he had expected and worry crept through Pierce's mind. Maybe Duvessa changed her mind, maybe she was caught. No, Pierce shook his head, he would not think like this. He and Duvessa were going to leave. Together. Then Pierce heard footsteps.
"Pierce? Are you there?" said a low whisper.
"Yeah, I'm here," he replied in a similar low whiper.
Pierce walked out of the stable to find Duvessa waiting. She was shorter then him by about half a foot and looked like a dainty doll in her castle dress, as she couldn't change her glamour while still on castle grounds. He was glad to see her, none the less, and even happier to see her holding fritters.
"Are we leaving now?" she asked as she handed him a fritter.
"Yeah, before anyone notices you are gone," Pierce said.
A horse in the stable neighed loudly, scaring the two young faeries.
"Yup, definately time to leave," Duvessa commented as they ran off into the night.
They started to cross the vast meadow that surrounded the castle. Far on the other side was a pixie forest which Pierce had planned to reach before sunrise. Onward they hiked, through the silent black night. Freedom on the otherside for them to claim.
The walk to the otherside was uneventful, except for Duvessa nervous glances around. She had the feeling of being followed since they left the castle. Pierce told her time and time again no one was following them but Duvessa still was on edge. The moonless night made the meadow a haunting place.
"Pierce, I swear I heard the grass moving behind us!" Duvessa whined.
"'Vess, it was just a breeze, stop worrying," Pierce told her yet again. "No one is following us."
"Are you sure?" Duvessa's child fear still holding her mind.
"If you are going to complain so much, maybe you should go back to the castle. You would fit in with all the flightly whiners!" Pierce commented.
Next thing Pierce knew, he was on the ground in pain. Duvessa had tackled him and pinned him to the ground.
"Take it back!" she snapped.
Pierce just laughed. He knew she would do this, "I take it back, now let me go!"
Pierce got up and brushed dirt off his breeches. Looking around, he spotted something. Trees.
"Duvessa, look! We're almost there!" Pierce exclaimed.
Duvessa started jumping up and down and then started to run towards the forest. Pierce followed her and soon they were at the edge of the pixie forest. Duvessa collapsed onto the ground, tired. She wanted to sleep. Pierce sat down beside her, leaning against a tree. Duvessa then rested her head against Pierce and slowly fell asleep and as she fell alseep, she could swear she heard a giggle from somewhere unseen.
