Some time ago, my life changed completely by one single event. As I write, I shall try to explain what it felt like to be whisked away from my home and brought to a new world entirely. It all started twenty years ago, on Friday October 13, my birthday. I had just turned thirteen and I was walking down the street with Henry, my faithful dog companion. I was going to drop by my grandmothers and see how she was doing until a blinding light lit right in front of my and a little girl, about my age, appeared. “Hello?” I asked. “Whoa, where am I?” Asked the girl in a very strange accent. “Why, you’re in England!” I replied happily. “England, huh? Well, I always wanted to visit England!” The girl said. “If you don’t mind me asking, who are you?” “Why, I’m Flamear! I’m from America!” The girl said. “Excuse me, but did you say America?” “Yep! It’s my home; I’ve lived there for as long as I can remember!” Flamear said. “But you can’t be from America; the ships haven’t come back from there yet!” “What? What do you mean? I must’ve come by plane!” “Plane? What is that?” “You know, the big flying metal things? Wait, what year is it?” I could hear some confusion in Flamear’s voice. “It’s 1882,” I told her. “WHAT!” Flamear cried. “It can’t be! Last time I looked it was 1999, and years go forward, not backwards! This cannot be happening!” Flamear started walking around in distressed circles. “Um… Excuse me, Flamear, but did you say you were from the year 1999?” I asked tentatively. “Yah, the year 1999, I live in America with my mother and father in a small house near my friends!” Flamear said. “Ok, well, looks like we have yet another time traveler!” I said. “Yah, well- Wait… What do you mean ‘another’?” Flamear asked. “Well, about a day ago, a girl named Aire came here from the year 1942, I think we are all here for a reason, although I haven’t quiet figured that out yet…” I told my new friend. Flamear sighed and plopped down right where she stood. “This is getting a bit too confusing for me now,” she said, suddenly tired. “Well, why don’t you come back to my house? You can meet Aire! You can have a better conversation with her than with me, since your times are closer together,” I told her. Flamear nodded. “Alright, but can you first tell me one thing?” “Sure, what is it?” “Have cars been invented yet?” “What’s a car?” “Oh great, I’m in the middle ages!” Flamear said, exasperated. I laughed and turned around and started walking, Flamear followed me. We walked in silence until we came to my home; it was a quaint little house with wooden shutters and a homey aroma about it. I opened the door for Flamear. Flamear stepped in and sighed. “Well, more than I was expecting, but still not a lot,” she said. I looked at her quizzically. “What do you mean?” “Well, in my time they have a lot more than this, but that’ll happen in about a century!” Flamear said. Just as she said that, Aire walked into the room. “Hello?” She asked in her accent. “Oh! Hi! You must be Aire!” Flamear said happily. “Yes, I am Aire. Who are you?” “My name’s Flamear, and I am from the year 1999!” Flamear smiled. “I’m from the year 1942, but that doesn’t make me all that special,” Aire told her. “Well, in this world it does,” Flamear said, shrugging. “Hey! Wow! This is just like the books I read! We’re all a group of people and have totally different personalities! Like Rocoso is the kind one, Aire, you’re the smart-allec one, and I’m the goofy one! Now all we need is that leader and…” Flamear never got to finish. We were all engulfed in a flash of blinding white light. I could no longer feel ground beneath my feet as we flew through space and time. Soon the light faded, and we stood in a pure white room, empty except for a chair that had its back turned to us. “Well, looks like the gangs finally all here. We can get started then,” said the person sitting in the chair. Flamear took a battle stance, her fists up and eyes blazing. “You do realize I have anger management issues, you really don’t want to mess with me!” She warned. I looked over at her and knew I didn’t want to mess with her. “Who’s messing? I’m just telling you, you might want to be ready for anything!” The voice said. “I am ready for anything!” Flamer retorted. “Well, are you ready for this?” The voice asked. The chair turned around and in it sat a little girl around our age. Flamear shook her head. “Ok, you got me. I was not ready for that!” She laughed. The girl laughed as well. “Most people aren’t ready to realize I’m just as powerful as them, but still really young!” She said. “I’m Agua. Welcome to the year 2035!” We all gaped at her. “Ok, I’ve had enough time travel for the day!” Flamear said, sitting down where she stood. “Well, you might like this time period! We have a lot more animals!” Agua laughed. “Animals?” Flamear and I asked at the same time. We looked at each other and started to laugh. “Well, looks like you’re both the goofy one!” Aire said, sighing and shaking her head. “Well, actually, each of you has a different role. Aire, you’re the mechanic. I’m the leader. Rocoso, you’re the friend. And Flamear, you’re the protector. You each have a different role to play in this story!” Agua said. “Whoa, this place really is like my books!” Flamear laughed. “No kidding, well, looks like we’re going to be here for awhile…” Aire observed. “Well, not exactly. We’ll be going to the middle ages after we get you three outfitted for your armor,” Aqua said. All three of us gaped at her. “You’re kidding, right?” I asked. “Nope, if you’ll just follow me, we’ll get you three outfitted right away!” Agua said. Agua walked to the door and opened it. Flamear and Aire walked right through it, not giving it a second thought. I stood there for a second before smiling and walking through. In the next room, there were three doors. “Rocoso, you’ll take the one on the right, Aire, you take the one on the left, and Flamear, you take the one in the center,” Agua said. I walked up to my door and saw Flamear and Aire do the same. I saw that my door had the symbol for earth on it. I looked over and saw Aire and I were watching Flamear. She put her hand on the symbol and her hair flew up in a gust of wind. Flames lapped at her body, and lifted her into the air. She closed her eyes, as if she had been expecting this. A burst of fire came up from the ground and she fazed into it. Finally, the wind died down and she was let gently onto the ground. She was wearing amazing armor.
