Eddie winced, sitting backwards on a chair, while Emilia rubbed some sort of green ointment into the burn on his back. It was cold and fairly pungent, stinking up the kitchen. Paulie stood by at a fair distance, not liking the strong odor one bit. "You sure you can't maybe put flowers in it to kill that smell?," he asked.
"No," said Emilia, "That would dilute it and change the chemical makeup." She scooped up a little more from the cup she had on hand and went back to rubbing the substance into Eddie's back. "Do I have to tell you that every time?," she asked with a bit of a grin.
"Probably." He smiled.
Thunder rolled across the sky. The weather was gearing up for a little more damage and X wasn't too keen on the idea of being struck by lightening. The grunny on his head grunted and he stopped. "What now?" he asked. "We need to get away from these docks before someone--"
"Hey! What do you think you're-- aaugh!" X heard the voice. Whoever it belonged to was being leaped upon by grunnies. They didn't seem too interested in snuggling. Once again, X was awfully glad he was unable to see what it was they were doing, but he found himself throwing up anyway.
Eddie pulled his shirt down over his scared and bandaged body. The strange ointment that had been used on him numerous times, even before it had been safe to go in the water, warmly tingled under the bandages. He held onto the chair and stood himself up. "Am I good enough to go back?"
Emilia smiled. "Not today, Eddie. Maybe tomorrow."
"Tide's out, anyway, Ed," added Paulie, though he knew the tide hadn't gone so far as to hinder surfing.
X leaned against a wall. The faint sounds of his distant mess now masked by sounds of rain. He could feel the grunnies sitting at his feet, almost sensing their stares as they waited for his guiding actions. What do I do? I don't know my way around this place. Not like I knew my way around... "G-corp." He gritted his teeth, seething anger replacing the present fear. He shook his head, "I'm not going to fail this time."
The grunnies seemed excited, hopping and prancing about. The one on his head grunted, quite pleased.
Note: Really sorry for the HUGE delay. Totally had nothing to do with the WGA strike. 13 should probably wrap up the story.
