Natural Being
Chapter 1 <Part 3/3>
I stood and squinted into the blinding light, leaning against the door in order to ease the head-rush I got from standing up too quickly.
“Hey.” A familiar voice called from behind the door and I looked through the window to see the younger scientist’s dark brown eyes peering down at me. “You okay, Miss?”
I shrugged, trying not to let my fear show through—it wasn’t working very well.
“Eh…could be better.”
“Yes, well,” His smile faded, and sadness glazed over his eyes. “I’m sorry we have to do this to one so young and promising. But we just can’t allow you to leave after what you’ve seen.”
My heart dropped and tears filled my eyes and cascaded down my already tear-soaked face. I didn’t even try to blink them back; they came freely this time. I couldn’t believe it. Just an hour or so ago I was outside enjoying the serenity of the world, and now…now it was all over.
A soft cry escaped my lips, and I fell to the floor sobbing. I heard the man whisper, “I’m so sorry.” as he pulled the metal blind over the window and walked off.
“Sorry? Sorry my butt,” I whined, coughing in between my sobs. “You’re not the one about to die.” I curled myself into a ball against the wall, the cool concrete soothing the heat of my face. Images of my family and friends flashed in my mind and I raked at my skin, wailing at the thought of losing them. The pain in my chest sent me reeling across the floor in my own personal torture.
Just then, my burning ears caught what sounded like a low hiss coming from the back wall of the cell. I tried calming myself down so I could hear better, and sure enough, I could smell the light gas wafting in over me, spreading through the room like a ghost and filling my nostrils. I tried my hardest not to breathe, but my psychotic episode had left me gasping for air.
The gas didn’t smell putrid at all—as I had expected—but it had a slight floral scent to it. I sighed and leaned against the wall, allowing the gas to envelope my senses. There was no point in fighting it. At least I could die peacefully.
It must’ve had a numbing effect because my hearing started to go deaf, then my entire body went almost limp. If I wasn’t so terrified I would’ve been enjoying the tricked up side effects. So this is what it feels like to get high. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say that I’ve been missing out.
It took a while, but about a minute after I was lying limp on the floor my vision became blurry and the darkness closed in around me like night over a summer evening.

This is pretty much just where I write down random things that I just happen to feel like writing down at the time.
