As I walked down the halls of East Wood for the last time, tears began to form in my eyes. Papers were scrambled along the floor, and lockers were swung open, never to be closed again. You’d think someone of my perception would be used to this by now. What would you see if you walked down the empty halls that gave you happiness and then soon took it back? Anger? Pain? Sadness? It’s a question not everyone is able to answer. Of course, not nearly anyone close to my intellect. The years before flash upon my eyes, as I looked down the long corridor which seemed to lead to my prodigious journey.
I can remember the first day here, I was merely 16. Friendly faces filled with smiles and love were all around. Then there were some whom looked so angered, and pained inside, that it was quite frightening. I found my classes easier than I expected and survived my first day. But as soon as I got home, it went downhill. We just moved to Maplewood because of the fighting, and it started all over again. Mom and Dad sat in the kitchen brawling. I let out a sigh and walked the spiral stairs to my classy, yet comfortable bedroom.
My room was filled with bright, pastel, colors. Easter colors, if you may. I could hear the loud melody of rap music coming from my brother’s room. To me, Andrew was a waste of existence. If he wasn’t drunk, he was high. If he wasn’t home, he was out in the streets doing god knows what. Maplewood had more gangs then I expected. Which I might add, is the newest cause to my misery. East Wood was gang central. So much for a safe, educational environment. I awoke the next morning, threw on my clothes, normally jeans and some sort of flashy shirt. I placed my glasses upon my nose and walked out the door, headed to East Wood.
“Diana!”
“Huh what?!”
My teacher was standing right in front of me, her eyes focused on my notebook which I was doodling in. I was still in search of my prince in shining armor. Yeah, I was one of those fairy tale girls when I was younger. (The Little Mermaid and Cinderella were and are my favorites.) Completely embarrassed, my cheeks flushed a red color. Thankfully, the bell rang shortly after. I slammed my binder closed and ran faster than I ever had. I found a great seat during lunch, and had my eyes on someone.
“God, he’s gorgeous!” I looked to the right to see a girl staring at the same guy I was. She giggled and sighed as if she was in a trance. I lied.
”Oh. I hadn’t noticed. Who is he anyway?” She looked at me as if I was stupid.
“Only the coolest senior here! Duhh! I’m Joselin and this is Pauli.” I smiled at the two girls who were nearly drooling over him.
“I’m Diana. I just moved here last week.” The girls didn’t seem to pay attention much. I giggled and shook my head.
“Yep...that’s Bradley. He only dates other seniors though. So good luck you too.” Pauli seemed to say sarcastically.
Joselin got a head of ideas at that moment. “Hey, meet me at my place after school. Here’s my number.”
She handed me a slip of paper and I transferred the number into my phone. I threw my lunch into the trash and finished my day. I couldn’t help but daydream about her plans, and my own. She sent me a text with her address, and I found the place. Very nice, if I do say so myself. When her mom answered the door, the sweet smell of sugar cookies filled the air. I took in a deep breath before following her mother up to Joselin’s room. Pauli was already there. She patted the empty seat next to her.
“So, here’s my brilliant plan! He deff knows that Pauli and I are juniors, as for you. He might not. Since you are new here. We could trick him into thinking you’re a senior. And then you can hook one of us up.”
“Great” I thought, “Using me my first week I get here.”
