This is the final installment of Greek mythology. Next week, I will probably talk about hell. According to Plato, Atlantis was not actually an Island, It was a continent. It's patron god was Poseidon and was in fact one of the ancestors of the ruling family. The first ruler was names Atlas, hence the name Atlantis. The land of Atlantis was closest to Spain, past the pillars of Hercules. The metal orichalcum came from there. Much of the Island was beautifully decorated, especially the temple to Poseidon. eventually, the people of Atlantis became corrupt. they conquered all of north Africa, Europe and most of Greece. Only Athens remained unconquered. The Athenians drove back the Atlantian army and freed all the other regions from their tyranny. Soon after, The entire continent was swallowed by a massive earthquake. whether or not it was real is a mater of opinion.
