Adventure in the Land of Monsters Part 24 & 25
Part 24

“I’ve got to contact Sandina, but if I use our communicator now I will end up exposing myself. I’ve got to wait a little while longer.” Chikaru said staring at the little silver radio in the palm of her right hand. “No use yet. I’ll wait a little longer before contacting her.” Chikaru slipped the radio into her jacket pocket.
“Did you hear that human escaped again?” a vampire said walking down the hallway.
“Yes. That little wench is a problem for us all. But we need her to finish our plans. Von has always bluffed about not needing the girl, but even he knows there’s no way to perfectly calculate the blood range we need. This is a once in a life-time chance.” another vampire hissed.
“Should we go after the girl ourselves? Roughing her up a bit wouldn’t hurt.” the first vampire suggested.
“That sounds like a perfect plan. We shouldn’t trust that half-breed Keto. I don’t even know why Von and Diago keeps him alive anyway. The boy is useless.”
“Now that Diago is dead I’m sure Von won’t keep the boy alive for much longer unless he figures out a way to turn him into a complete vampire.” Chikaru saw the two vampires coming down the corridor and she ducked into a room. “Then let’s go after the witch.” The first vampire stopped and sniffed the air. “Do you smell that?” The second vampire smelt the air and smiled.
“Yes. If I’m not mistaken that’s a human.”
“It’s coming from behind this door. Maybe we’re just in time for a feeding.” Chikaru backed away form the door and searched around the room for a place to hide, but no where would suite her. “The door is locked.” the first vampire said shaking the door. “Whoever’s in there, unlock the door.” the second vampire said banging on the door. “Wait, maybe there’s only a human in there. I do not smell another vampire.”
“It looks like we get a meal all to ourselves.”
“Then let’s get in there and get some more blood.”
“Crap… There’s nowhere to hide.” Chikaru leaned on a wall by the fireplace. “I’ve got to fight them off somehow.” The two vampires broke into the room and saw Chikaru.
“Perfect. It is only a human in here.” the first vampire said slowly shutting the door behind him.
“The wench looks fairly young yet. Young blood is always a little sweeter.”
“Then she’s a perfect treat after drinking the blood of those demon hunters. Why don’t you come here little girl? We promise to make it quick.”
Chikaru gulped and reached for a weapon by her side, but she touched the teeth of the lion statue by the fireplace. The teeth sunk into the lion statue’s mouth and the wall flipped her to the other side. The two vampire banged on the wall. Chikaru fall on her face and she rubbed her head. “Ouch. That was weird. What luck.”
“Damn, the human escaped. No use chasing after it now. Let’s go after that other one.” The two vampires flew out the window towards the forest roads.
“This is amazing. This house is full of passageways and corridors. I’m surprised no one gets lost in here.” Chikaru tripped over a human skeleton. “Then again, I could be wrong.” Chikaru wandered down the dim stone passageway. She saw bright flashing slights up ahead and she approached the opening with caution. When she peaked around the frame of the entrance she saw a giant blood machine. “Holy crap.” Chikaru saw people lined up like cattle for the slaughter. The people ranged from babies to the elderly. “What is this horrible place?” Chikaru saw people being picked up by the dozens and being put through the blood machine. “This is terrible. I’ve got to stop this.” Chikaru took out a sword she found in the corridor and snuck around the door. She saw a vampire with a giant black leather whip making sure the humans didn’t get out of line. He kept whipping at a young man who wasn’t keeping up with the group. Chikaru couldn’t take it anymore. She took her sword and sliced the vampire down his spine.
“Well I missed a human after all.” The vampire spun around and got his whip ready. He cracked his whip to scare Chikaru, but she just glared at him. “We got a stubborn one huh?”
“I see that we do darling.” Another vampire with a brown leather whip flew across the room. She cracked her whip behind Chikaru and Chikaru kept herself calm and ready for battle. “This is not like our other ones. She doesn’t look like ours. Maybe she’s a stray.”
“It seems that way.” the man said with a hiss.
Chikaru brought herself low. She put her sword above her head. “Twin Death.” Chikaru thought. She spun her sword above her head and sprung into the air. Her body span like her blade. She moved so fast she looked like an airplane propeller. The vampires whipped at Chikaru, but their whips were tangled up within her blades. Their hands slipped form the whip grip and Chikaru grabbed the whips with her legs. The whips cut across ropes and her blades sliced wires and chains. The vampires watched carefully for an opening to attack her. Chikaru took a deep breath and forced herself down. She let go of the sword and it sliced the vampire’s heads clean off. She grabbed the sword while it was still spinning and sheathed it with ease. “Two more victims of my Twin Death. A little overboard but it had to be done to stop this machine.” The sparks from the wires fell around Chikaru.
“Who are you and why did you stop the ceremony?” one elderly man asked.
“I am Chikaru a Demon Huntress. You all are free now. Leave here while you have a chance.”
“You are a fool. This is an honorable ceremony. We were chosen to be the ones to be a tribute to the mighty Master Von.”
“You fool! You will die to make him stronger?! All he wants is your blood, he doesn’t care about you!”
“You are wrong. He chose me and my baby to be his wife’s drink. That’s an honorable thing.” a woman said.
“Brainwashed fools. If you want to stay fine. I cannot force you to do anything you do not want. But I’m telling you now. There is more to life than what you see now.” Chikaru walked down the stairs to the crowd of people. “You are all more than things to be eaten. If you want the feeling of freedom and the chance to be free then come with me.” Chikaru walked through the crowd down the next hallway. People started to follow Chikaru down the corridor. When she looked back most of the crowd was following her. She led them through hallways and room till she found a staircase that lead to the outside. She pushed open the basement doors and there before her stood a werewolf. He growled with a smile. “Long time no see my little sweetheart.”
“Hello Shane.” Chikaru reached for her sword.
“There is no need to slay me now Chikaru my sweetheart. I just came to see what that smell was. I thought it was you. Who are those human with you?”
“They are the people I’m letting escape from this hellish place.” Chikaru said. “And if you get in my way I will have no problem taking you out.”
“I’ll have to do a rain-check. I have to go see your father. He said he had something to talk to me about.”
“Give a message for me please. Tell that filthy beast to stay the heck away from me and the humans. If he does try anything I will run a silver spike through his skull.”
“Fine then, but are you sure you aren’t going to go on a date with me?”
“Nice try, but the answer is still a no.”
“See ya later my sweetheart.” Shane turned around and looked over his shoulder. “Do not get into too much trouble Chikaru. You and I are still betrothed.”
“Get out of here Shane.” Chikaru said pulling out her sword.
“Fine, no need to get testy.”
“Did I hear right? You two are meant to be wed?” a man said.
“I think I’d hang myself before that happens.” Chikaru said with a laugh.

Part 25

Chikaru led the people to the village where Kitko was helping with repairs. “Hey Chikaru!” Kitko jumped off a rooftop and landed in front of Chikaru. “How are you? Where’s Sandina?”
“Sandina isn’t at the castle. She escaped, but I got these people out.”
“Sandina escaped huh? Well with our hard work we have been able to build five houses. What kind of info do we have about their new weapon?”
“Nothing much. We know it’s able to break down human barriers, and we know that Sandina is the one who has to be the one to work the machine. Otherwise it’s useless. I’m afraid Sandina ran off for good. She would rather die than be used to put us in jeopardy.”
“Well knowing Sandina she’d just keep running. We both know how she’s a master escapist. If she truly has run off, it’s sad to think that we will probably never see her again.”
“We should’ve known that we’d probably never see her again. This is the problem of being Demon Huntresses. Odds are always against us. But right now we cannot worry about that. We got to get these people to a safer place than this. Vampires are soaring around everywhere looking for her.”
“I have that already taken care of. I’ve already created a machine to create a barrier for this town. Now it isn’t as strong as the city’s barrier machines but it’ll last until this whole thing blows over.”
“Kitko, you are a genius.”
“Well Chikaru, since it is nightfall how about you and your guests come and stay with us in the houses. It’ll be better than sleeping outside.” The people gathered together in the nice warm houses and soon were sound asleep.
Keto had Sandina in his arms. “She’s so warm. Humans have a lot. They are warm and tender. They may be weaker and not live as long but they have a heart. They know the warmth of the sunlight and the peaceful sound of the morning song. But the beauty of the night is useless if you do not have anyone by your side to share it with.” Keto looked out of the care into the darkness of the night. “It’s such a wonderful night.” He took Sandina’s jacket and covered her up. He smiled and brushed her face lightly with his fingertips. Sandina opened her eyes. Her vision was burry, but she could tell whose grasp she was in. She rolled over and leapt to her feet. “Good to see you awake Sandina.”
Sandina squinted from the pain of her wounds, but she remained standing. “Stay away from me if you want to live vamp.”
“You’re too hurt to fight back Sandina. It’s not hard to figure that out. You shouldn’t speak so high if you do not have the strength to back it up.”
“Even if I were to die fighting you there’s no way I would ever give up.” Sandina braced herself against a stalagmite.
“You should rest Sandina; you’re going to need all the strength you can get to do what we require.”
“I will not be your battery for that machine. I’m not going to be hooked up to that thing so I can ruin all mankind.” Sandina raised her fists. The cuts on her arm broke open and her blood seeped through the bandages.
“Now look at yourself Sandina. Your movement has reopened some of your wounds.” Keto leaned back against a rock and smiled. “I can just sit here and in no time flat you will pass out again do to blood loss.”
“You’d be surprised how long I can last.” Sandina dashed towards the cave entrance. Keto flew in front of her and grabbed her arms. He rubbed the blood between his fingertips.
“You’re in no condition to go out anywhere, especially if you want to stay out of Von’s grasp. If you do as I say you can stay out of his clutches. To be honest I could care less about what Von wants to do. He killed my father right before my eyes. He beats and sleeps with my mother. As far as I’m concerned he is not a relative of mine any longer. You are the only concern I have now.”
“Then let me go. Let me stop Von and finish him once and for all.” Sandina tried to pull away from Keto, but he would squeeze tighter and pull her closer.
“If you be mine, if you be my wife for the rest of our lives, I will tell you the way to destroy Von’s machine and him. I will even take you to the location of the machine. All you have to do is be mine.”
Sandina turned her head away. “Here’s the deal Keto, if you help me destroy the machine I will date you. Not marry, date. From there we’ll have to see.”
“No Sandina, either marry me or nothing. You have those two choices.”
“I choose door number three then. I kick your butt, get out of here, and destroy him and the machine myself.”
“I choose door four then. You can’t get anywhere without me.”
“Wanna bet? I can recover pretty fast and take you down.”
“But you’re helpless right now. How do you suppose to beat me if I have you now?” Sandina clenched her fist and socked Keto hard in his gut. Keto fell to his knees. “I’m sorry Keto. But no matter how hard you try to stop me, I will complete my mission.” Sandina took out her communicator and waked to the entrance of the cave. “Chikaru.”
Chikaru jumped up in shock and quickly answered. “Sandina! Sandina is that you?!”
“Yeah, do you still have that connection at the Phoenix Travel Center?”
“Yes why?”
“Tell them to meet me by Hell’s Ridge at first light. And you and Kitko need to come too. We’re going to finish this once and for all.”
Keto jumped up in furry and tackled Sandina from behind. He sunk his teeth deep into her right shoulder. Sandina’s body grew stiff and still. She fell to her knees with Keto’s teeth still deep onto her shoulder. “Now you’re mine no matter what.” Keto said with a smirk.
