Ode to Comics by ~Neb-kun

“In brightest day
In blackest Night
No evil shall escape my sight
Let those who worship evils might
Beware my power,
Green Lanterns light!”

For all the crap comics get
about being for the kids
some of them can be surprisingly deep.
Like the ones that question
how far can authority go
before they cross the line from protectors
to dictators?

Or how about that little blue hedgehog
who always does what he feels in his heart.
Not because some one told him to
or because he has some great power with great responsibility
but simply because he wants to.
Wouldn’t the world be such a sweeter place
if people thought with their hearts instead of their heads?

And even that big blue Boy Scout in the sky
with his solar powered smile
and the big red “S” on his chest
that stands for sucker
because he can’t tell when the guy,
who killed him,
is lying to him.
He’ll still show us
that even if there’s an insurmountable evil
we can still find decency in the human heart.

Or the dark knight
who swings through the rooftops,
he doesn’t risk his life because he hates
the thief that stole his parents
like a hawk steals a mother mouse,
but because he has the courage
to hope for a world
where the only orphans
are the ones in the history books.

And the American captain
with his shield of stars and strips
shines the light on patriotism
not as obedience to the government
or the short-termed politician
but to the individual in the republic
for which we stand.
how if the whole country tells you to move
because they think
what you feel is right
to be wrong
then you plant yourself like a tree
beside the river of truth and say:

“No, You move.”

Because comic books kick a**!

Even with all their
super fighting robots,
laser eye-beams,
cliché super-villains
and care bear moral oral stories
they can still reap the hollow soul
and replace it with a warm fuzzy feeling
that’s all to hard to find
in this spiky kitten baby hating world
where it’s me against I and I against you
in all these crazy shades of Red Versus Blue

So next time you walk past
that friendly neighborhood web slinger
I hope you find the time to embrace the little kid within you.

Because there’s a reason nerds are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.
