ANNABETH'S POV
I stood on the edge of the lake, next to a certain daughter of Hestia. Karri Lewis.
I never thought of her as some illegal child, as Percy was, but simply a friend, next to my growing feelings for Percy, of course. I never told anybody, but I needed to tell Percy I liked him, and admit I liked Luke only as a brother, not some girly crush that I had on Luke before Percy had arrived at Camp Half-Blood. I turned to Karri, who was now wrapping her jacket around like a security blanket. It was colder than usual for summer, and Percy was out canoeing on the lake. I would have gone with him, if not for the bitter cold that was eating at me. Anyway, back to my miserable life. "Karri?" I asked. She turned to me, her teeth chattering, her sky blue eyes looking at me with concern. "Yes?" was all she could muster. I held back, afraid like Clarisse would, Karri would simply laugh at what I was about to tell her, or encourage me to tell Percy what was needed to be told. My mind raced, but I managed. "Should I tell Percy I like him?" I wasn't sure what was left in her brain about love since she, like Thalia, had joined the Hunters. The Hunters were
staying at camp to help prepare us for war, and defend along with us, then they would scout the woods and fend as much of Kronos' army as they can, out of the few monsters, mortals, and Half-Bloods that hid in the shadows. Karri was the newest addition since Percy's sixteenth birthday, which as many people would call it, a "sweet-sixteen." it wasn't for anybody, except Kronos. He must've waited for this day, to do his best to destroy Western civilization as much as he could, and if he won, he would twist all the others on the Olympian side to his will. I shuddered at the thought. But then I realized I was thinking too long, because Karri slowly turned away to watch Thalia begin a canoe race with a poor Aphrodite camper. I noticed Percy walk over, and Karri turned back to me. "Here's your chance, he's right here." she gave me an encouraging smile, then walked towards cabin 8.
Voices in the wind whisper of that moment, when a friend gave me courage, when I was ready to tell all I could. Thank you, you voices. Thank you, Karri. Thank you,
voices in the wind, thank you.
