The other day I went up to my mom and said,
"Mom, I think I'm growing up."
She gave me a funny look and asked me,
"And why is that?"
I told her that I am beginning to realize exactly how selfish and conceited I and other teens are. I explained that we as teenagers and probally even adults, tend to think our life is worse then others. we think that we have gone through so much s**t and now we know exactly what we are doing.
I told her that we tend to judge others on how they talk or act. thinking that just because a girl acts like a priss or a b***h it must mean that she is spoiled and that she has been pampered all her life, when really the girl might have just had a pretty shitty childhood.
I told her that we tend to believe that we know more then others. that we have gone through more crap then they have and now that means we are, in some way smarter. we think that others will not be able to understand us because they can't understand something they haven't gone through, yet we dont seem to apply that when it comes to the other way around
I told her that sometimes other people's problems that seem huge to them and small to you doesn't make them stupid or less intelligent. say you were adopted, and you heard that a girl's parents just got divorced;to you, that is no big deal. but to her, you would tend to forget that she isn't you. some things hurt other people harder then others.
and lastly, I told her that all of us are different, with different lives to live and go through. we all have our own sad story, wether your father has spent his whole life in jail or your parents are dead. we have all gone through dilemas, but not so that we can put them up in a contest against other people's stories, but so that we can help out those who might have to go through that same scenario later in life. we all have our own unique story, and now we just need to know how to use it.
