Lila lay on her small cot, staring at her white ceiling. In her mind, she replayed her dream over and over again. She had dreamed of an angel... But that angel had been her mother. Lila knew she didn't have a mother or a father, but she had had that dream four times that week alone. She couldn't get that angel's face out of her mind... The one thing Lila had never found out was her angel-mothers name. That was what she wanted. She had wanted to know her dream mothers name... A tear fell down Lila's cheek. All she had ever wanted was a mother and father to love her and hold her tight. To tell her she wasn't a freak, that she was normal, that she was loved... Lila flipped over on her cot to see her pencils and paper on the floor next to her. She sat up and picked up her pencils and began to sketch her angel's face. As she drew, images flew through her mind. Of herself, but flying over a still night. She thought about how she had never seen the outside world, and how much she wanted to... How much she wanted to see how the flowers bloomed and the grass grew, like every one of her old partners had told her about... She wanted to be free... Lila let her pencil clatter to the ground as she finished her sketch. It was then that the white coats came into her room for another training session. Lila stood up, smiling as they handed her her staff with the skull of her first partner on the top of it. Her sketch floated out of the room, then lay on the cement.
